Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Arcticsong sighed out, she had stayed in the ForestClan region longer than she anticipated. First she wanted to bring Bloody and Ginger back, but by the time they made it to DayClan it was too late. DayClan would never let them be taken back as prisoners now. Then she was invited back to SunClan to see her family, she really had spent a long time out of WinterClan when she was only anticipating staying away for a matter of hours, not days.
Standing up Arcticsong began to walk out of DayClan, but stopped abruptly when she neared the border, her ears twitching at the sound of another cat closing in. "Whoever you are, you have a generous five seconds to reveal yourself or I will strike with fury."
Wolftundra was on the hunt for traitors. Words had spread quickly if the escaped criminals and he’d volunteered with a few others to track them down. Truthfully his job was just to track and then return for assistance to retrieve them but the tom wasn’t a fan of that idea. He wanted to show these cats they couldn’t do just whatever they wanted. Rumors had flooded through camp saying they’d had help escaping, that they had too and Wolftundra believed them. How else would they have disappeared out of WinterClan’s hold? The wind shifted, bringing in a fresh roll of scents. He’d lost the other twos and was searching for the trail again but now a new one had been brought to him. Fury was filling him at the scent, the scent of a cat he’d never particularly liked. Their values differed to much and they’d never melded well because of that. Stepping out of the woods he came face to face with Articsong.
Compared to Wolftundra, Arcticsong was rather short for a warrior, definitely more of the size of an apprentice. But her WinterClan lineage to Goldenstar had let WinterClan welcome her with open arms despite her size. However despite moving into WinterClan with a WinterClan blooded mate from another strong lineage they never once had a litter to prove themselves useful in at least furthering WinterClan's populations and proud bloodline.
"I thought you were a threat. I was just about to return to WinterClan, it's a long walk from here though. Why have your paws brought you out this far to the forest lands?" Arcticsong asked.
He was practically growling his words, partially out of frustration of coming across her and partially for not finding the prisoners. “Searching for escaped prisoners. Though, who do I come across but you instead. And at the border with DayClan no less.” Wolftundra did t see this as anything more than convenient. It was something he could see an outsider born cat doing, releasing cats because she pitied them and even escorting them to safety. Arcticsong had never proved her worth to the clan in his eyes. Failing even to gift them with a litter of kits considering her lineage. It was something he resented about her, found irritating.
"It is a neutral territory," Arcticsong gestured to DayClan's land, not even understanding a fraction of what Wolftundra's hangup was.
"Besides, I chased Bloody and Ginger down, but they had already made it onto DayClan's land. There was no way for me to take them back, I was outnumbered by DayClan forces. There's nothing the two of us can do alone, we would need an army or track their habits to wait for them to be alone. We'll just have to both go back empty pawed without any prisoners." Somehow between the first words that she spoke and the last she was already quite a distance ahead of Wolftundra, looking back at him if he was going to follow.
“It is enemy territory!” Did she not remember the war they were just in with DayClan? The fool! Wolftundra spread his paw, taking a defensive stance on instinct. “Oh how convenient. You just happen to follow the prisoners who’ve escaped straight to enemy territory. And now you suggest we just leave and dont even attempt to regain what is ours.” She clearly didn’t care and he was taking her words as though she was shrugging her shoulders and saying it wasn’t a big deal. But it was. If every cat was allowed to escape then no one would fear WinterClan anymore. The tom rushed at her, tackling her from above, his words a growl. “Maybe you let them escape and walked them here!”
Arcticsong whimpered as her chin went into the ground hard. Feeling the tom already on top of her she lied still, but didn't choose her words carefully or even utter them with an inch of fear, "It's really a shame to see a WinterClan cat of your stature reduce yourself to this kind of emotional outburst. If you're proposing only the two of us waltz in their, grab them by the scruff of their necks, and drag them back to WinterClan then you're going to need to go in it alone. It just won't work. Secondly look me in the eyes when you're threatening me," she said, already staring at the ground from the position Wolftundra had her pinned in.
“I propose you speak the truth! There is rumors you’ve been spending time with them and now here you are at the end of their scent trail.” He ignored the rest she spoke, furious at her betrayal, though in his heart he knew she’d do it. She’d been odd since joining and Wintrystar was a fool to give her a Knight position in the clan. Something he’d commented on when questioning her loyalty to others. How loyal puke she be when she bore no kits in a relationship with a cat of string bloodlines. Clearly, there was something wrong with her.
"Yes, I spoke to them, I knew them from when I lived in SunClan. But in SunClan's culture it's common for family to be locked up for small crimes. Never once did I break my family out, so it's easy to reason that I wouldn't free a few friends either, like Bloody and Ginger. Is that enough for you to believe me, I'm not sure what WinterClan's laws are, but there's no proof that there's any betrayal that occurred and I only did the right thing in hunting them down once I noticed they escaped, which by the way, no one else did, even you were slow to arriving," Arcticsong pointed out.
“Not sure if WinterClan’s laws? You assist in upholding them! You are a disgrace for a knight! I do not understand how Wintrystar could have chosen you for the role you so clearly fail at.” Wolftundra was furious taht she was calling him out but even more so by her words. How could she hold the role of knight, a role he desired and should have had, when she doesn’t understand their laws and customs! The tom was practically seeing red now, a deep growl in his chest as he dug his claws further into her form. “You do not deserve to live in WinterClan.”
"If it's of any consolation, I don't care," Arcticsong said.
In one painfully perfect flow of movement that it mirrored something angelical Arcticsong drove the wind out of him, sending both of her back legs into his gut. Taking the moment to casually, with as little urgency as seemingly possible she swept his legs out from under him. Leisurely rolling out from under him before he could collapse on top of her she stood as though it was a rehearsed maneuver. Her paw now resting on Wolftundra's back shoving him down, "Do you understand now?" She asked before crushing her manicured claws into his neck, the puncture slow, but threatening to deepen into something far more lethal, "I chased them down, I was outnumbered." She said, her voice calm, rhythmic with a matter of fact tone that would drive anyone wild, a voice someone naturally wanted to defy. At the last second she withdrew her claws, stepping off.
"Wolftundra, if you strike me down again I'll need an entire patrol to carry back all of you once I'm through, now get up." Her olive green eyes didn't soften, but something in them changed, "And tell me what you had planned for the prisoners that escaped."
Ceremonies has just concluded, Wintrystar was stepping away when Wolftundra approached her. He had a goal in mind, something he believed would benefit them all and that he’d been thinking if ever since Arcticsong had pinned him so easily a moon ago. He would come out in too in the end, that he was sure of. “Wintrystar, I wish to make a petition.” Many cats stopped now who had previously been leaving to return to what they’d been doing before the ceremonies were called. Curiosity filled them all as they stopped and watched. Pomegranatedecay was one of them, her eyes focused in and her mind working through a few scenarios as to what Wolftundra could want.
Wolfconstellation yawned, just barely muffling it to escape the notice of the more uppity WinterClan cats. Another ceremony, another drama to be sure. He was happy he didn't really have any family here or else he'd surely be neck deep in it, too. He much preferred the simple life. Hunt, eat, sleep, repeat. That's all he really wanted anymore, that and the company of his mate, Arcticsong.
The small golden-furred tom sat a tail-length or so away from the golden she-cat, allowing her all the space she wanted, as was their custom. If she wanted to snuggle she would initiate. Good thing Wolfconstellation had grown patient in his old age, a far cry from the ambitious young tom back when he was an apprentice in SunClan.
"Arcticsong," He whispered to his mate after stifling a second yawn, "Want to take a nap together after Wolftundra is done with his babbling?"
For warning is suck at fight scenes so! Here we go lol FaithJadie
There would be no nap for the two of them though as Wintrystar gave Wolftundra the go ahead to speak. “I wish to make a claim on Arcticsong as a mate. She had been arranged to Wolfconstellation for many moons now and there are no just between them. I believe this is Lord Borealis’ way of saying they are no longer meant to be together and thus I petition to challenge Wolfconstellation for his mate.” A hush fell over the clearing, many shocked to hear the words of a challenge and form one such as Wolftundra at that. Pomegranatedecay was practically grinning at the aspect of the challenge and seeing the outcome. Whispers were beginning to spread now, growing louder with each moment.
“Step forward, Wolftundra, Wolfconstellation, Arcticsong.” Wintrystar called out. They were the cats involved with this challenge and thus she Calle d them to tue center of the clearing before her and the high stone. Her eyes darted over each, taking in their appearances. Her mind though, went to the truth Wolftundra spoke. For as much WinterClan was between the two, no kits had been born to Arcticsong and Wolfconstellation, so maybe it was time for them to part.
Arcticsong drearily nodded only for her head to lift just barely, a lazy pause at Wolftundra's words. Given it was Wintrystar's command she arose, making her way over beneath the high stone with an unsmiling expression, "I am the knight of the stars Wolftundra, if you needed a translation to get lost I could have had that translated for you straight from Lord Borealis himself," She said plainly, not a trickle of humor echoed in her voice, but he could see the unease from the way she picked at her tail anxiously.
This time she looked up to Wintrystar, "If he wants to fight for me then he should have to face me, not my mate." Deep inside she knew Wolfconstellation wasn't an especially tough fighter, he wouldn't be able to win against Wolftundra. Not only that, but she had seen him in battle, Wolftundra desired to be ruthless and cruel in combat. This would likely be a brutal battle that she already knew the ending of. Cats at their size just didn't stand too much of a chance, it was only because of her mother giving her extra care in training that she knew how to fight as well as she did.
“No. He has issued his challenge towards your mate and I will honor, that will you not?” Wintrystar raised one eyebrow at the she-cat willing her to rebuff her. The sovereign knew the strength of her knight and also knew it had been many moons as Wolftundra had stated and yet there were still no kits. So why would she allow the better fighting in this battle to step forward?
(sorry I took so long to get to this, I blame the holidays which is nice, normally I don't have such a good excuse to explain long wait times on threads LOL)
Wolfconstellation was mid-yawn when he heard Wintrystar call out his name. He slowly closed his mouth and padded forward, the fur on the nape of his neck rising the closing he got to the Sovereign and Wolftundra. Since he hadn't been fully listening before, it took him that much longer to connect the dots about what exactly was going on but, when he did, he had to stifle a growl.
"Do you intend to make it part of the code that not supplying kits in a timely manner is reason to break up a pair of mates? I ask because it certainly is not part of it now," He challenged Wintrystar with uncharacteristic nerve, "You cannot penalize Arcticsong and myself for failing to follow a rule that does not exist. Furthermore, your code does not allow you to do this, since one of the requirements for divorce is that both parties agree or, if you want to stretch it, that one or both parties have selected a new mate, neither of which are true. We want to stay mates and have no desire to divorce. How is this something Lord Borealis would approve?"
Most cats would not know this but, when Wolfconstellation was a kit and apprentice, he was incredibly ambitious. He wanted to be High Priest and even managed to get himself nominated for Janus. So then, why did he stop climbing the ladder? Simple - it was too much work. Wolfconstellation learned that there were only two positions that allowed him to be lazy: at the top or at the bottom, and only one of those options took no extra effort to achieve. So he stopped trying so hard and practically retired before he was a Warrior.
His change in carrier path didn't mean that his skills of discussion had gone rusty. While he'd never be a fighter in the physical sense, Wolfconstellation could most certainly hold his own in a debate if he felt strong enough about it, and the threat of losing Artcicsong to this mongrel was more than enough to unlock his hidden talent.
Wintrystar was not pleased to be questioned by any cat, especially not in front of the whole clan. “The two of you were arranged to one another. You did not chose each other or have your parents select each other for you. And thus, it has been implied since your arrangement that you would be expected to have kits. All others hav understood this and so why haven’t you? The order was originally placed by myself under the guidance of Lord Borealis, do you question his judgement now?” She paused, an eyebrow raised and allowed him a moment to challenge her words before continuing. “Since you have not had at least one litter, I see no reason to not allow Wolftundra’s challenge. If Lord Borealis did not wish it to be so, then he would send a message in some form to us now. Shall we wait a moment and see if he does so?”
"What makes you think we do not have our parents' approval? Did you talk to them?"
Wolfconstellation's blood was beginning to boil. Yeah, sure, their marriage was not originally something either of them wanted, but they were a pretty solid pair by the time they joined WinterClan together. He wasn't surprised that Wintrystar knew about their origins, but he did want to know who told her that. He had a hard time believing she would gossip with SunClan cats.
"Oh, never-mind. Your mind is made up and you aren't backing down now, you'll find some other convenient loophole and make what you want to happen happen, that's why everyone wants to be a leader. Although waiting a moment for Lord Borealis would be nice."
He turned to Arcticsong and cocked his head slightly, then learned toward her, something he rarely did since she preferred to initiate contact. Quietly, for his mate's ears only, he said, "I'm probably going to be killed by that guy. Can I have a good-bye kiss?"
The battle happened between Wolftundra and Wolfconstellation under the supervision of the whole clan and the watchful eyes of Arcticsong and Wintrystar. In the end, only one stood triumphant while the other laid injuries and defeated. Wolftundra was the victor and new mate of Arcticsong. The she-cat was not pleased with this endings and weeped all through her wedding night which occurred the next day. Wolfconstellation was there, bruised and beaten and just as upset as his lost lover. The only ones happy with the outcome were Wintrystar and Wolftundra. But even their happiness would not last. Wolfconstellation healed and Wolftundra did all he could to keep the two precious lovers apart, but it would not be enough. Secretly, they made plans to leave the clan so that they may be together once more. Nearly a moon after their forced separation, they left. The moon was black in the sky and they slipped away by the darkness, leaving behind empty nests and Wolftundra bleeding out in his nest. He was killed by the angry lovers and left as a sign of their anger at Wintrystar and WinterClan as a whole.
