Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Now that your sisters back it's time to ensure she doesn't make the same mistakes again. Removing her from the family would be more distracting to our appearance than if we kept her so for now we're better off making the best of it. Which is why I'm entrusting you to teach her some humility, learn her place. Then, hopefully, she can have a litter, redeem herself, get her name back and this can all be out of the public eye," Howlingnight explained to Pomegranatedecay, "I've decided that your sister can get treatment for her wounds, but her ears will remain untreated. It's harsh, but if she's not willing to use them to listen then we can decide she doesn't need them anymore. She can claw the black frost bitten ends off herself... But, you can hang the idea of that over her head, maybe if you give me some good words about her meeting with you I will change my mind. Thank-you for doing this my daughter."
With that Howlingnight gently touched noses with Pomegranatedecay before walking out of the den, giving a nod to Sludgemilk to enter. There were plans being arranged to start her wedding, it was a move for WinterClan to talk more about the wedding than her banishment for a change.
Sludgemilk's fur was finely groomed, the crystals had done quite a lot to improve her health, returning her good looks except for her ears. Her ears were blackened, something a healing crystal could remedy that no herb could, but she was intentionally being deprived of. Her looks bordered a dangerous competition to Pomegranatedecay, after all, they were sisters, if anyone compete with Pomegranate's good looks it was her. But with her being at risk for losing her ears and her usual brilliant bright blue eyes now darkened and broken it wouldn't be long till she was reduced to a cat no one wanted to look at.
"Hello Pomegranatedecay," Sludgemilk said, bowing her head low to her sister in greeting. She held her head down until waiting for a sign from her sister that she could lift it. She knew if she could stay on her sisters good side that she might talk their dad out of essentially removing her ears.
It was not as though her father had given her much of a choice. Pomegranatedecay kept all her siblings in line socially, it’d started with Deathreign when they were kits and so far she had failed. One sibling at a time, her most recent project had been Skeletalrose but it seemed her father had other plans. A bow of her head as her father exited and then narrowed eyes once her sister entered. She’d show no mercy, Sludgemilk had tarnished their reputation some with her stunt and that included Pomegranatedecay’s and she was by no means appreciative of such actions. Hatred filled her chest as she stood, head high and trying to appear larger and taller than she was. Slowly, she circled the cat before her before returning to her original spot. “I assume father had told you why your here?”
There was a moment where Sludgemilk paused to say something witty, but while her mind still thought of sarcastic quips they were no longer words she would day utter aloud. Back before her banishment she was equal to Pomegranatedecay, now her sister could have her stripped of her tongue if she came up with a good enough reason. "I presume to be reminded of my purpose in this family," Sludgemilk replied, forcing herself to sit up straight, but kept her head down as a sign of submission to her sisters authority.
Besides, if she just played along, followed orders, then her sister wouldn't be able to come up with an excuse to hurt her more. So she would just play the good girl from now on.
“And your standing in society.” If things went Pomegranatedecay’ sway, her sister would have been disowned. But their father’s heart was soft and he’d convinced their mother otherwise. No matter, she’d teach her to be a proper, low class, child of the sovereign. Sadly, Sludgemilk had no chances of ever being perfect after the stunt she pulled but no matter. The family only truly had enough for one perfect daughter and she had control of this room at the moment. “Can’t have you pulling another stunt like you did and embarrassing us again. I doubt Mother would be so forgiving a second time.”
"I would never fall in love with an outsider again."
Sludgemilk's gaze concentrated on the floor, her voice thick in desperation. Her mind escaped to places it wouldn't allow herself to remember, but within the cracks of places her brain dared not wander she recalled a storm and the fluffy pelts of her kits carried off by the cold water. If she didn't marry correctly, have the right blood for her kits she knew her mother would make sure anyone she loved wrong would die, that much she was sure of.
"If I had listened to our mother I could have lived a happy life, but I didn't. I thought I knew better, I wanted... The ideals of freedom and happiness that DayClan had, I didn't know back then that I would never be allowed to have that. I lost sight that my purpose is to maintain our families image. I promise, I would never muck that up again," Sludgemilk said, raising her gaze to meet Pomegranatedecay's, "That much, I sincerely mean."
“At least you’ve learned that.” It was spoken with a sneer and an eye roll as though her sister was truly that stupid. “You know nothing!” Her words now a hiss of anger. “It is why you fail, it’s why you don’t understand. You choose not to learn as a kit and here we are now. Trying to fix you! Trying to teach you how to behave as a child of the sovereign.” Pomegranatedecay day back, furious at her sister, at the situation in general and how little the she-cat before her seemed to realize how badly she’d messed up. Social graces were apparently something her siblings were never going to full understand but the other at least understood them enough to not cause such a mess. Unlike Sludgemilk who’d disgraced them all with her stunt. “You have so much to learn. You can’t just waddle through life expecting things to go the way you want and not think about how your actions effect others. Did you ever wonder how our images would be effects? How cats would see the daughter of a sovereign taking an outsider for a mate?! The gossip that would surround our family? About me?! You are a fool.” Pomegranatedecay stepped out of the den then, needing air, room to breath, away from her sister. Whatever it was she needed it wasn’t enough. She was still angry. The she-cat had worked hard at her reputation and her dear sister had ruined it.
Sludgemilk held her tongue, refusing to say anything. Because if Pomegranatedecay suspected for just one second that she didn't give two droppings about her image now or ever she'd end her right there. Instead she just watched as her sister stormed out from the den. Which meant the best thing to do was to look as small and pathetic as she could. At least then her sister would treat her as a normal threat, but if she showed no remorse and only rebellion her life in WinterClan would be made miserable very quickly.
"Sibling troubles?" Blazingbluejay asked, trying to come off with a assuring smile, but it only melded into a mix of shy awkwardness. "I... Saw her walk in there so that's why I know." Already feeling the strain between herself and Pomegranatedecay she quickly interrupted herself, "Hey um, wait, I know I'm not at your status or whatever here, but I know a thing or two about tormenting people's lives. Maybe I could help give you a creative attitude to make the whole, disgraceful sister returning thing a bit more amusing for you? Say prep her for the wedding coming up with Tangledpaw, I heard Howlingnight mentioning he wanted one for her. But instead of prepping her for it nicely we really put her through some hell. All the torturous spa treatments like an ice bath, claw removal to keep those paws extra fluffy, pine needle massage." Or maybe none of her offers would work and the leaders daughter would just look at her like a weirdo. But they were both daughters of leaders so they had that to connect with at least.
Oh? That was an idea and an even more insulting one was to have Blazingbluejay do the work. Pomegranatedecay could lounge there next to her sister during the preparations, even be spoiled herself, while Sludgemilk was out in her place and disgraced more by being handled by Blazingbluejay. A sadistic grin spread on her face. “What a lovely idea. You sound as though you’ve done something similar before? Care to tell me about it? You may walk with me as you do.” It was an odd request for anyone outside of WinterClan but here it was even odder for someone of Pomegranatedecay’s status to be anywhere near someone of Blazingbluejay’s. But it would raise Blazingbluejay’s status and reputation to be seen conversing with Pomegranatedecay, so a win for both of them. Never before had Pomegranatedecay allowed such contact, or even spoken with the cat beside her so it was completely out of place and would raise many eyes, but when those cats heard of the spa day for her sister, they’d all laugh along side her. And what a glorious moment that would be, the dark grey she cat thought.
"Thank-you," Blazingbluejay blushed before testing a confident stride forward, then another, and before long she was walking along side the leaders daughter with a boldness she longed to display. "Yeah, so actually, I haven't done a lot of torturing, well- I mean- kind of," Blazingbluejay said with a bit of giggly, uncertain laughter, "I don't wanna brag, but I did bring DayClan to their knees twice in a row. I know, my moms leader of the clan or whatever so everyone thinks I'm on great terms with her, but I'm not. I hate my mom, she locked me in a house so all I ever did was imagine ways to torture her when I finally got my claws on her. So it would be great to actually try that out on someone and not waste that creativity away," She explained, hoping that didn't come off as too weird to want to torture Glowstar.
When Sludgemilk heard movement from outside of the den she quickly lowered her head again with a remorseful expression just in case Pomegranatedecay had decided to reenter.
Pomegranatedecay allowed her to talk, mentally rolling her eyes and chanting I don’t care, get to the part I care about already. But her outward appearance showed otherwise, and anyone who passed them saw an intensive sovereign’s daughter paying attention to the biggest problem child in the clan. “Startle subtle now, or you’ll cause us both problems. You mentioned things for the spa treatment the night before the wedding? Elaborate on those.” She trie d to be soft with her words, welcoming, encouraging, but they still came out commanding. The dark grey of her fur was raised a bit from her anger, and she paused in the clearing, the deemed center of camp to smooth it out. She would not look like a fool while negotiating or ever.
"I was thinking we walk her out to the cold waters and tie her paws down into the riverbed stones. Then we force her recite some vows of loyalty to WinterClan, but if she refuses we dunk her under. After we'll free her, she'll be totally helpless though, too cold to move. It'll be a blessing for her though, soften the pain just a touch, enough where she won't wake up the whole clan with her screaming when we tear out her claws, but still hurt enough for her to be begging to you. Then we'll wrap her up in pine needle branches and dump her in a pit of thorns for the night, the more she squirms, the worse the pine needles will get. She'll wake up ready to do whatever your family says to avoid that fate from happening to her again," Blazingbluejay explained.
“The pool under the Jagged Falls will be cold enough for that. I will have to speak to father about the removal of her claws but I’m sure I can persuade him.” She was the favored daughter and if she emphasized how it would benefit Sludgemilk in her standing than he would surely allow it. Though she dared not anger her parents by acting fully without their approval or at least one fi them’s approval. She had no desire to end up as Sludgemilk. Pomegranatedecay knew her sister would be dressed before her wedding, something she was being tasked with as a part of her father’s request to help Sludgemilk better fit in. “Yes, pine needles would be a love piece to add to her fur and necklace for the wedding. They smell lovely and can serve a full purpose then. Weave them for me, won’t you?” It was less a request and more a command, a test of sorts to see if Blazingbluejay would defy her. The she cat raised an eyebrow, daring her to do just that. She didn’t want to bother with creating and then disposing of a whole nest of pine needles but subtly adding them to the flowers and crystals adorned during the wedding would still get the message across.
"Psh? Will I? Princess, no one will be able to recreate a more beautifully painful device of a dress than the one I'll make for your sister, that I can guarantee you. And if someone does top mine, it'll be myself making another one for another pathetic little thing you want to torment," Blazingbluejay promised her, looking infatuated by the prospect of the request, her gaze was practically glitter and her smile melting at what would await. Sure, it was wrong to hurt others, but WinterClan hurt her and hardly anyone suffered for it. Pain was just how the world worked so she may as well try and fit in and use her own misery as good experience to pursue that damage onto others.
Pomegranatedecay had requested an audience with her father the next morning. Unknowingly, her mother had chosen to sit in for this meeting as well. As Pomegranatedecay walked into her parents den, the den of the sovereign, she found her father and her mother. While she didn’t fear her mother disagreeing with Jeff she also hadn’t expected needing to explain her acts to her either. The two have a good relationship, Wintrystar was proud of her daughter and held her in high esteem but she’d also never witnessed her children fussing with each other. That was mostly due to Pomegranatedecay keeping them all in line and under her claws, until Sludgemilk’s revolt that is. “Mother, Father.” She nodded her head to each. Waiting at the entrance to the ramp to the den where she’d left them, was both the sister in question and Blazingbluejay. While Wintrystar would agree with Howlingnighta bd the treatment that was needed to return Sludgemilk to her proper place, she may not agree to having Blazingbluejay involved in it all.
"Proceed," Howlingnight encouraged, already eager to know Blazingbluejay's purpose because Wintrystar sure as hell wasn't going to wait a moment longer.
Blazingbluejay stood still, not speaking unless permitted.
“Well Father, I have come to the conclusion that my…” her eyes darted to the left, a sneer trying to reach her face, “sister is in need of a higher level of guidance.” Pomegranatedecay glanced now to her mother hoping to find her pleased and not in a mood due to being in close proximity to Blazingbluejay. “She proved that she doesn’t understand the consequences she caused for others. It was not only herself taht was effected by her actions but her family. Sludgemilk, sister,” she paused, looking her way with a mask of sad hope, one that was completely fake, “I merely hope you understand that this comes form love but must understand how society dictates anyone sanctions in a family as a reflection of the whole family. How can mother stay powerful and uncontested if they gaze upon the family and find large faults? I am looking at for all of this when I propose an idea that was given to me. I have edited it of course, and seen that it is fitting for Sludgemilk to participate in but still wished for your blessing.” From there Pomegranatedecay explained the plan to her father, but did not explain who gave her the idea. Though, it was easy enough to figure out with Blazingbluejay standing right there.
Howlingnight raised his paw to his daughter when she was done, but gave her a nod of approval before turning to Wintrystar, "I believe she's right, but we need to be careful about Sludgemilk's physical appearance to the public. If we take her claws it will make her useless as a warrior, which means her only purpose from here on out will be to have a family. I think if we curve Sludgemilk's behavior she could be the perfect mother because we will have molded her into a perfect image of what WinterClan needs and her family would never dare step out of line knowing their families image is already on the line. Her family will always be below the other kits, but that might be to our benefit. On the other paw I'll need to allow the witch to do something about Sludgemilk's ears, I left them frost bitten as punishment, but it won't look good on our family if we have a member with no ears."
Sludgemilk's paws shuffled deep into the earth hearing her family talk so casually about essentially tormenting her. They were trying to normalize it as a necessary evil, maybe it was. There was something wrong with her after all, that much she could believe. Why was it that she was the only one in the family who couldn't fall in line? None of her other siblings messed up this bad. There was something wrong with her. Even if she knew Pomegranatedecay was doing thing to hurt her, maybe it really would put her back in her place. Serve her family the way she needed to act and then she could find some semblance of normal again. Things could somewhat be back to normal and everything else that would come before the wedding could be long forgotten about.
"Will my sins be forgiven if I go through all of that?" Sludgemilk asked hopefully. Her pain and suffering had to mean something.
“Very well. I have finished making arrangements for her wedding anyways. Pomegranatedecay, you have two days to preform this task. Until then, see that she is seen with her intended and puts forth a better imagine than when she left.” Wintrystar waved them off with a dismisses and a deadline. The wedding would be on the third day, leaving enough time for planning and execution of their plans. “Oh, before you,” Wintrystar watched as her daughters and Blazingbluejay paused. “Sludgemilk, I take 100 points from you in regards to your betrayal of the family and another 20 for failing to realize the impact your actions have as a whole. Take guidance in your sister and I am sure you will find your footing again and a path to forgiveness. You may go now.”
This pleased Pomegranatedecay greatly. Her sister was punished yet again, demoted in points and, soon if Pomegranatedecay had her way, in rank. Her kits would be born into a lower rank as well, punished for their mother’s failure. Oh how nice it was to be above and better than her sister, the cat she’d always envied in looks.
Sludgemilk's tail drooped to the floor hearing how her class was falling. Turning to look at Pomegranatedecay and Blazingbluejay her future ahead looked bleak. One wrong move was all it took for her status to fall to an all time low. Probably to a lower mistreatment than anyone in WinterClan, because with most offenders they were dead or chased out. She was family though and killing or chasing her out only added a dent to the family name so they wouldn't do that. Instead they'd force her to fit into their mold and if she couldn't fit they'd cut her bones, bind back her flesh until she squeezed in no matter how much of herself she would lose to the process.
"C'mon Sludgemilk, better enjoy your claws now because after that ice bath tonight they're coming off," Blazingbluejay ventured darkly.
(You can reply and then we can fas forward to the icy river?)
For whatever reason I was thinking someone else was in this thread too like jadie or someone lol But sure I’m down for skipping
Pomegranatedecay was beyond please by what was transgressing and happily bowed to her parents before leaving the ledge. She knocked shoulders with Sludgemilk, a smirk on her face. “Well, sister, do you understand now?” Her words were more of a tease or a mocking jest than a true question.
