Sparkling evening sunlight sent the hills ablaze upon the familiar stretched territory ahead. Dead, colorful leaves crunched beneath her paws as crisp air filled her lungs. Familiar scents wafted around her as she neared the Dayclan borders. She quickened her pace until she was in a run, ready to break through the forest border into her homeland. As she ran, it felt as if the border kept stretching further and further away but she pressed on, desperate to be home. At last, she crossed over, breathing in the scents she missed so much. She had to savor the moment. Dropping into the tall grasses of the moor, she stretched and rolled through the leaves and dying grasses.
A young, beautiful tortoiseshell, barely the age of an apprentice, with deep blue eyes, stood beside Windchaser, curiously staring down at her as she filled her fur with the familiar scents of home. Her coat was glossy and smooth, her paws raw from the trip, clearly soft from a lifetime of kitty pet life. āYour home is beautiful.ā She commented, peeling her gaze from Windchaser to take in the breathtaking beauty of Dayclan territory. āAre you sure they will welcome me?ā
Windchaser rose to her paws and shook the leaves and dirt from her golden fur. āIf I know Glowstar, she will welcome you with open paws. I promise.ā Her smile was genuine and soft, clearly appreciating her friend making the trip with her. āCome, it isnāt far from here.ā She bounded off toward the Dayclan camp, the kitty pet following close behind.
āāāā
At last, they reached the camp, the Dayclan scent much stronger now. Windchaser took a deep breath, preparing for the warm, excited welcome she hoped to receive once she walked in. The arch of the Dayclan entrance stretched high above them as the camp opened up before them. All eyes locked on the two cats that appeared at the entrance.
The kitty pet held her breath as all eyes turned on her. Her paws tingled with anticipation along with the pain of her raw paws. She gulped, expecting hostility.

Hostility? In DayClan?
The ex-Priestess lounged across the Wisteria throne when a familiar face, and an unfamiliar one, peeked into camp. Now, this wasn't something that was inherently surprising, DayClan did allow cats to come and visit whenever they pleased, so long as no trouble was caused. Foxstar, or Vixenkismet as Windchaser would probably remember her DayClan name had been, was never a good sight to see upon one's return. Least of all when she looked to be a queen in her own castle, rising to her paws and heading directly for Windchaser.
Her fox figured form was the same as ever, as if age didn't dare to touch her villainous form, a corner of her mouth twitching up in a smirk as she neared. The feathers of hope and control hung from behind her right ear, tickling her shoulder as she moved with a snake-like grace. Light body paint adorned her figure, accentuating her eyes like frost gathered on her cheeks, splattered with blood, and whispering along her spine in a thin lace lines. The eye zodiac symbol was drawn across her right shoulder, outlined in white, the color dep ruby red accentuated with orange and yellow flecks that made it look like a gaze made of fire.
"You're alive after all, Windchaser?" Foxstar questioned, tilting her head ever so slightly as she appraised the she-cat. It wasn't unfriendly, per say, but it would most definitely set off alarm bells, for those who knew the kind of damage the ivy eyed leader was capable of.
Windchaserās heart sank when her eyes met Foxstar. Instinctively, she put herself between the evil she-cat and her kitty pet friend. Her fur bristled along her spine and her lips drew back into a snarl. āVixenkismetā she hissed between gritted teeth.
Alarm spread through the kitty pet, her fear coming to life before her eyes. She lived a life of luxury and knew nothing about defending herself. Throughout their entire journey, Windchaser held off most of the dangers and only taught her a pawful of battle moves that she had not yet perfected. She took a step back, fear pulsing through her veins making her feel dizzy and lightheaded. Would there be a fight? Why was Windchaser so hostile toward this one particular she-cat? Wasnāt she her clan mate? Didnāt they respect each other? Questions flooded her mind as she tried to make sense of what was happening. Windchaser had been so excited to return but now was suddenly preparing herself for a fight, it seemed.

The leader's eyes narrowed as her smirk spread into a seemingly amused smile. As if this was not only an expected reaction, but the very one she'd been looking for. For what reason? Well, who knew, but the fox-heart herself? "It's Foxstar now, actually." Her voice was a gentle purr, leaning back just slightly onto her haunches to peer at Windchaser from down her nose.
It was about now she noticed the cat Windchaser was preventing her from reaching. Did the former DayClan cat really think Foxstar was so concerned with such a feline, who from all she could see, looked to be a mere kittypet. She leaned a bit to the side to peer around to the petrified cat. "I'm sorry, it seems Windchaser here has set things off on the wrong paw." Her words were soothing soft, though Windchaser wouldn't be quick to miss the drift of Foxstar's eyes back to her, twinkling with danger as she twisted it to seem as if the returning feline the young kittypet had accompanied was overreacting in all this.
Now she spoke solely to the newcomer, ignoring Windchaser entirely, not even offering a hint of aggression. She didn't need to, to set the older feline off. "As I said, my name is Foxstar, I'm one of the leaders here. Welcome to DayClan, my sincerest apologies for how this meeting has gone so far." She lifted black leg up, turning her pad to the sky, and extended it slowly towards the kittypet, claws sheathed. "You're both here to join DayClan, I presume? I'm sure your journey has been long. Why don't you have something to eat, and I can look you over for any injuries. I'm also acting as the healer here currently."
Just enough information to give Windchaser far more questions, words that seemed kind to naive ears ringing hollow and manipulative to the experienced. But what would Windchaser do? What could she do, if this was the game Foxstar wished to play?
Foxstar? Her mind swirled and anger bubbled under her skin, making her pelt feel hot. She opened her jaws to demand to know what the evil cat had done to her real leader, Glowstar; but before she could get any words out, Foxstar addressed her friend, obvious to make herself look innocent. That was Foxstarās oldest trick and it made Windchaser scowl. The previous Imortal Council member would never fall for her tricks.
The small kittypet relaxed slightly at Foxstarās calming words but was still hesitant to believe her friend wouldnāt trust a cat for no reason. There had to be history between the two. Windchaser made Dayclan out to be this heavenly paradise, yet she was met with old wounds. āI-Iām Patchesā¦ā she stammered to the leader. āSomething to eat sounds delightful. Iām starved.ā She gave a slight smile, purposely forgetting to mention how sore her paws were. She was almost afraid to look at them. They must be close to bleeding by now, though she didnāt quite trust these cats yet. She needed to see a vet but it was clear that there were no vets in the wild.
Windchaser glared at Foxstar a moment longer before turning to her friend. āYou need to regain your strength. Please, eat your fill.ā She watched as the kittypet made her way to the fresh-kill pile. Windchaser stiffened as she saw the slight limp in the small catās gate. She needed treatment but Windchaser was not comfortable with her in Foxstarās care. She wished Brakewings was here. She turned her hostile, green gaze back to Foxstar, hoping the leader didnāt notice what she had. āWhere is Glowstar?ā She demanded with an irritated flick of her tail.
A strange but familiar scent reached Rubyflame's nose. The smell of a kittypet, something that many DayClan cats had gotten very familiar with as some of their own had been forced to stay with twolegs for a time when they'd been taken away.
The ginger and white she cat emerged from where she'd been napping making her way over, her eyes widening in shock. "Windchaser?!" She gasped.
"Windchaser!" She cried moving forwards to see the former immortal council member, immediately brushing her muzzle against her side. "We thought you'd been lost in all the chaos that has happened as of late!"

Foxstar had been about to answer when Rubyflame's void rang in her ears, and the leader sat herself down as the former immortal council member appeared. Was that a flicker of disappoint in her ivy eyes? Well, whatever it was, it was gone in a fraction of a second, and that false sweet smile returned. With perhaps a hint of smugness at the fact that if anyone were to have been offed by her before Windchaser returned, Rubyflame likely would have been high on that list.
Pawing absently at her ear, the smile quickly slipped to hint at boredom, and she glanced around for Glowstar. "You know, that is a good question, Windchaser. I don't know where my mate has gone off to. She'll probably turn up eventually."
"Ohh," Glowstar said in a flutter of laughter as she gave a pretend shiver, "a circle has gathered? Guess I'm not the only one serenaded by that foxy sirens razor whipped tongue. Stab me over and over again with it, I'll never get bored," She purred lovingly, as she strode or more so fell into Foxstar's side on cue, "I promise," She winked up at her, "But really, whatever made you use that tone needs to never, ever go away. I miss that icy hellfire voice you used to sink into me like warm venom, staring down at me like prey and I was all too thrilled to be yours," She smiled up at Foxstar, her narrowed eyes burning into her mates before taking notice to their guests, at first just Patches, "Oh hey, don't worry, I just love it when she's dangerous, it's hot," She said waving her paw with a sweet offhanded, don't-worry gesture before almost completely missing Windchaser as she turned back to lovingly staring into Foxstar's eyes. This time she sprang up last moment, somehow twirling back to face Windchaser in one swift movement, "WINDCHASER!" Glowstar exclaimed with a bubbly smile, "You're alive! I guess I disbanded that council too quickly," She said thoughtfully, more so to herself.
"Where have you been all this time?" She asked. Her radiant fur was practically like heaven's light, the color of light peeking through clouds at sunset, bright and glorious. Blue eyes lit up, hanging on Windchaser's every movement, like she was the chosen one for something greater than even she could imagine. It was society's rarest kind of expression, a genuine one that believed in a person more than they did and Glowstar seemed to always have it.
Windchaser gave Foxstar a hard stare, daring her to say something that would give her every right to rip one of the fox-heartās ear off. That was until a familiar voice echoed throughout the camp, landing sweetly in Windchaserās ears. Peering around her nemesis, her gaze caught sight of her oldest and closest friends. Pushing passed Foxstar, she ignored all anger that was there before as she pressed herself against Rubyflame, breathing in her scent and embracing her warmth. She pressed her forehead against Rubyflames, her heart feeling like it could burst. āIām so happy to see you, Rubyflame! Iāve missed you so much!ā Unfortunately, the heart-warming welcome did not last. As always, Foxstar had to stomp out any happiness that Windchaser felt. Mate? How dare she fool Glowstar into falling back into her sick games again? Sheās only going to cause her more pain. Foxstar wasnāt dumb and if she played her cards right, she could take over Dayclan or destroy it all together.
Windchaser opened her jaws to spat an insult to Foxstar but before any words could come out of her mouth, Glowstar appeared, looking just as stunning as she ever did. Perhaps more so since Windchaser had been away for so long. How could she forget how majestic her leader actually was? It nearly took her breath away. At first, Glowstar had ignored her, her heart shattering in that split moment. All of her loyalty and dedication to her, only to be ignored after she had returned; until Glowstar turned back around. Relief flooded over her as her leader greeted her with such warmth. Windchaser burst into a purr, more than happy to see her leader once again. āGlowstarā she breathed, taking in the familiar shape of Glowstar. āIāve been with two-legs. I was captured but-ā she turned to look at Patches, appreciation reflecting in her green eyes. āI found Patches. She lived with me while we were kept by the two-leg. She lived there before me and helped me escape.ā
Patchesā skin burned underneath her fur as Windchaser put her on the spot the moment she returned with a mouse dangling from her jaws. She wanted so much as to shrink down into her fur and ignore all of the gazes but she couldnāt be rude. She placed the mouse down gently between her paws before responding. āI just thought it only to be right to help Windchaser return to where she belonged.ā She gave a nervous smile, rubbing one paw against her foreleg. āWindchaser spoke highly of this clan so I thought I would come see this place for myself. If youāll have me, of course. I donāt wish to intrude.ā

The moment Glowstar arrived, Foxstar leaned into the other leader, a far more gentle smile rippling across her features, and the leader moved with the other, always touching Glowstar's side, giving her an almost lovesick look though Glow's focus seemed to be on Windchaser. Anyone could see it if they looked at Foxstar now, but few probably cared enough to pay attention. Her gaze focused on Patches after a moment, listening to most of the interaction in silence. "Why wouldn't we have you? There's been worse cats to join this clan." Herself included.
Patches exchanged uneasy glances with Windchaser. Worst cats have joined? What kind of worse cats? She wondered, shifting her weight off of one of her sore paws to give it some relief. āUm, thank you for the hospitality. It was nice to meet all of you.ā Her stomach rumbled as the succulent scent of the piece of prey at her paws wafted around her muzzle. āPlease excuse me while I eat my meal. Iām starved.ā She crouched and began devouring her mouse. Her mouth watered as the taste buds on her tongue danced with flavor, giving her a sense of bliss. So much better than the rabbit dropping food that the two-legs fed her. After she ate her fill, she rose back on to her sore paws, wincing in pain.
āWe must get you to a medicine catā¦ā Windchaser spoke hesitantly. She didnāt want Foxstar to see her weakness but it was obvious that Patches was suffering from the sores on her paw-pads. She needed treatment immediately before any open sores got infected.
