Grumpysparrow felt lonelier than ever in the new territory SwiftClan had claimed. He didn't know this marshland, uncomfortable and unstable beneath his paws; he didn't have any friends within the clan and now he was half-blind wandering through rivers of mud that sucked at his paws. His only constant companion had been the quiet little bird he had found in the city. He had lured it after the clan in secret, leaving a trail of seeds, but now he was nearly out, and his friend would leave.
The silver tom sat down and laid the last strawberry out in front of him. He did not have to wait long before his bird friend descended and started to feed, and looking at it for what might be the last time, tears stung his eyes. The warrior swallowed hard, with his condition he couldn't afford the agony of tears, but it was so hard to be alone.

Limeburst wasnt an easy cat to pin down. He always seemed to be on the move, yet today his travels had caused his path to cross with a cat he had never really talked to before. Grumpysparrow was leaving the apprentice den just as Limeburst was entering it, and then they had moved the day after he was promoted to warrior. He had kept to his siblings during his travels, so he never had any real experience talking to the other warriors of the clan. Now was as good a time as any he supposed, and judging by the looks of him, Grumpysparrow needed someone to talk to as well. He watched as a bird flew down in front of the other cat, and in hopes not to scare away the other tom's entertainment he approached on silent paws, touching his tail tip gently to the other warriors shoulder to let him know he was there.
Grumpysparrow jumped as he felt a tail touch his shoulder. Immediately, he spun around and tackled Limeburst. They slammed to the ground and he planted one paw on top of the warrior's muzzle.
"Don't hunt my friend!" he hissed, his voice low and furious. How dare Limeburst try and sneak up on the bird he was watching? He was going to kill Grumpysparrow's only friend here! The silver-and-eggshell tom bared his teeth in warning.

The tabby tipped tom yelped in surprise, his body being pushed the the ground so quickly, he didnt have time to brace himself. His shoulders his the hard earth below, forcing a gasp from him in both surprise and a bit of pain. In the corner of his eye the bird fluttered away, spooked by the commotion, "Humpph- Mmn mphh humph-!" he mumbled loudly under the other warrior's paw, smacking his shoulder with his own, keeping his claws sheathed as he alternating between smacking and pointing out that the bird had flown off.
He growled as he fought to keep the tom pinned beneath him. The warriors' gestures were meaningless to him, but in the end he had to relent anyway; Grumpysparrow was built lean and wiry, and though he was as muscular as any warrior, he was built for running instead of fighting. As Limeburst unbalanced him he took a leap away and landed stumbling, then spun around and stood tall and stiff, his hackles raised and body tense, ready to fight again.
The only reason he stayed his paws was because he finally noticed the bird was gone. His lips were drawn back in a snarl, but he hesitated now, relief and anger battling behind his squinted gaze.
"You should have stayed away," he snapped, his tail raking back and forth.

"What?! Are you crazy?!" shouted Limeburst between heavy breaths as he rolled slowly onto his paws, shakily rising before fully shaking the dust from the ground from his pelt. "I was just coming to see how you were," he spat, though his tone barely held any venom, just a bit of hurt, "And then I was trying to tell you your bird flew away while you were trying to kill me!" His claws dug into the dirt below as he adjusted himself, his fur finally lying flat, though he seemed to still be worked up.
He snarled again, but realizing Limeburst’s intentions, he faltered. “Wait— you weren’t coming to eat my bird?” He relaxed ever so slightly. “I thought you were looking for a meal.”
Shame crawled through his pelt. Had he really attacked a clanmate to save a birth that had left him anyway?

"I- No...?" huffed the warrior, an incredulous look on his face, "I was just wondering what you were doing, I dont care about a bird, but you sure did," he rolled his eyes, sighing as he composed himself further. "Anyways... you alright? I didnt mean to scare you." He looked around, wondering if the bird was hanging around to make its return, but didnt see much of anything, "You just bird watching out here? Or...?"
Grumpysparrow didn't say anything more at first. He didn't know what to say.
It was a little embarrassing to be caught caring for anything, especially just a lone bird. So what if I was? he wanted to say, but that would backfire too. Because if he was birdwatching, inevitably Limeburst would feel bad for him, he was going blind and his favorite activity was watching birds, and he didn't want any more of that kind of pity.
His silver paws shuffled and finally he just spit out the truth, "I lured the bird here. From our old camp in the carnival. I brought seeds."

The warrior scoffed, though it held no scorn, the sound he made was simply one of disbelief. "You lured it here?!" he asked, is eyes wide. There was surprise and delight hidden in those perky greens, Limeburst couldnt believe what he was hearing. "Thats.... why thats just... crazy!" he decided, then reeled a bit, not wanting to offened Grumpysparrow by any means, "Crazy awesome is what I'm saying," he explained, hoping he sounded as sincere as he truly was, "Like thats so cool, you guys are like buddies, he followed us the whole way. That birds a Swiftclanner as much as I am!" he laughed, a purr rumbling in his throat. "How'd you learn to do something like that anyways?"
Grumpysparrow jerked upright at Limeburst's scoff, his body stiff with fury. This is what he got for being open and honest: laughter. Mocking. A low growl rumbled in his throat and he leaned forward, darkness rising with him along with a strong desire to shred Limeburst's ears.
"Crazy awesome!" The warrior's correction threw him, and the silver tabby paused. Was he lying? His purr sounded genuine, and Grumpysparrow blinked slowly, thrown by the sudden change.
"I figure it out on my own," he replied cautiously, not quite ready to reveal his secrets, not until he was sure of Limeburst's intentions. "It's not... I'm out of seeds. It won't come back."

The warrior stuck out his bottom lip at the news, half pout and half thoughtful, though he never really spent much time practicing the second half. "Youre out of seeds huh..." he repeated, his tail tip twitching. He furrowed his brows. "We'll just get you some more!" he decided, stamping his paw down, "Or at least, I will," he offered, a smile on his face, "No Swiftclanner will go hungry when I'm around, and that includes that bird. Plus, any friend of yours is a friend of mine."
