[This is a border patrol lead by Nightyfury, along the Northern border. Recently SunClan cats have been falling into traps, becoming injured or killed. This patrol has been sent out to search for traps, signs of intruders, or anything suspicious. Each of the patrols WILL come across something important for the plot, so feel free to have your characters jump in on one of the patrols]
Sorebetpeony shook her head "Really? Littlestar has decided to send us on a suicide mission.... what rotten luck" normally Sorbetpeony was rather lucky, so this whole thing didn't sit very well with her "Why doesn't she go looking for traps on her own?" stardance
Nightfury just grunted. He had not patience for cats complaining like that. Perhaps it was his longer life, but he understood how to be the cog in the machine that the leader operated. "Not her place." Maybe he had become talkative since his mate's death, but really on showed it on business like this. The northern territory smelled of ash, as it usually did. The volcano's eruption was still easily seen in the landscape, and in the air. "Silence."
"I find searching for traps to be a lot of fun, actually! Reminds me of my time in twolegplace," Yarepawn replied to Sorbetpeony, completely ignoring Nightfury's warning for silence. The dilute calico she-cat was confident and had a contagious personally, the kind that tended to put others at ease without much effort on her part. It was what made her such a natural leader, "The trick for finding traps is trusting your gut. If something seems off, even if you can't tell why, it probably is."

Sorbetpeony rolled her eyes "Then how about you go enjoy this little trip, and I'll just head back to camp" like her companion she paid no mind to Nightfury's cll for silence. He was always grumpy, and she had stopped taking his threats seriously long ago "You can get impaled, and I'lll just sit back in the safety of camp"
"When Foxstar was still leader, not a single SunClan cat would hesitate to give their life should she ask of it," Yarepaw replied, her tail sticking straight in the air in an upmost sign of confidence, "That's because if you defied her it was as good as death but... ANYWAY - Just keep you head up and place your faith in the Sun God, k? It'll all work out. But I don't mind leading the patrol if you're too afraid to do it, no skin off my back. I know my soul is going to the Isle when it's my time so there's really nothing I have to fear... Can you say the same?"
He rolled his eyes at the bickering going on behind him. They had a mission to complete, and he had no patience for what was going on back there. Really, it all went back to Sorbetpeony's complaining, and it got the better of him. He unsheathed his foreclaws, and, midstep, lightly sliced the underside of his forepaw while looking back at the Sorbetpeony. He felt his own wound close, and no doubt the she-cat would feel it herself soon. "Shut up."
"Okay," Yarepawn replied to Nightfury before actually falling silent, because saying anything at all was defying the Soothsayer's request. Those sort of contradictions were her favorites, the kind where you both succeed in and fail at meeting the requirements. Of course, she was probably the only cat present to take things so far, so she directed her attention to the path ahead and hummed a tune.
Not long after he spoke he felt the noxious smell of death hit his nose. He immediately bristled and his tail shot straight into the air as he scanned the nearby area for the source of the smell. His eyes settled on a crumpled lump of fur not to far off in the distance, and what looked like a bunch of insects flying around it. "Slowly." He lowered his tail and crept forward, wary of any traps they might be walking into.

Sorebetpeony fluffed out her coat and the stench of death, looking to the two other cats "Maybe we should go and get back up first. Isn't that what Littlestar said for us to do? This could be a trap" It certainly seemed that way, a body out in the open like that. It was to easy.... It was either a trap, or a warning
"It's probably not a trap if it's so obvious, but I guess I'll leave the decision up to Nightfury. I just recalled that I'm not the leader of the patrol, he is," Yarepawn replied to Sorbetpeony, her eyes narrowing as she picked up the familiar stench of death and decay. She'd experienced more than her fair share of the scent in her life but it left just as powerful an impact each time, ".... And since he said 'slowly,' I think that means we can approach, but slowly."
He lightly growled at their bickering. Of course they had to check it out, there was a dead cat on their territory! With any luck it would be the body of an outsider and they could pass it off, but as he approached that hope fell short. He recognized the fur of Innocentlamment as he neared, but her fur looked slightly grayed compared to the vibrance it used to have.
"Oh, this is Innocentlament, isn't it?" Yarepawn seemed rather unaffected by the appearance of a corpse. After all, she'd been born and raised in Foxstar's SunClan, this was just another day as far as she was concerned, "I wonder what killed her... Littlestar really aught to consider forbidding solo patrols. Gosh dang."
He nodded. Nightfury thought Littlestar already had, but perhaps he was wrong. As he examined the corpse a little closer, he found all sorts of puncture wound around her upper body. "Look." He gestured to them all. "Scorpion stings."
