To say that Ravensfrost struggled to return back to camp with Mastershrine was an understatement. The pair had been doing a regular patrol on the edge of the border, close to the base of one of the mountain sides when the pair suddenly found themselves trapped in a mudslide. Ravensfrost wasn’t sure how badly Mastershrine was hurt, but the black tom himself could hardly put any weight on his back leg and a large laceration stretched from his flank to his shoulder. Aries, who had been staying close to Hystericstar’s den had been the first to see them enter the camp. A wicked smirk had graced his features before it quickly disappeared. He feigned a look of worry as he ran towards the two cats, crying out for help as he did so
It was terrible timing for Hystericstar and one of the Aurulents, Jayjack, to be out of camp and missing. However, Mastershrine didn't know this fact as he limped alongside Ravensfrost, doing his best to provide support for the both of them. In all honesty, he was fairly certain that he had messed up his front paw rather badly - broken, sprained, he had no idea. All he knew was that it was swelling up more and more, and it took all of his strength to use it without crying out. His vision was rather blurry - probably due to the debris that fell on his head during the mudslide.
With his poor vision, Mastershrine looked around camp the moment that they managed to arrive, but he couldn't make out the lanky form of the leader. "Where's Hystericstar?" he tried to shout, but his voice cracked with dryness.

“Where indeed…!” Aries exclaimed. “Oh… of course my dear brother would be gone at a time like this.” The white tom said with a shake of his head.
“It seems some things never change. You would think he would have adapted to his position better than this! Leaving his poor clan unprotected and in danger…”
Ravensfrost tried to tilt his head, unsure what this tom was trying to get out. But the movement only caused him more discomfort, and a soft hiss escaped his throat. “I don’t think Hystericstar knew the mudslide would have happened-“
“Hush now, my young friend!” Aries said as he quickly interrupted the young black tom. “We must take you to your medicine cat immediately!”

Weaselpaw was sat calmly outside of the medicine den as he watched the two warriors limp in. Though he didnt jump into action- he needed to see just how bad off they were, starting at a distance, closer examination would come. As he was about to rise to his paws the ghostly tom that had been taking an over stayed welcome in their camp jumped to action. His voice scraped across the medicine cat's ears like claws on a rock, making his dusky pelt bristle. He rolled his eyes as his position was mentioned, but he was already on his feet, approaching the two warriors and the clan's smooth talking guest.

"Ah, there he is now!" Aries cooed, gently nudging Ravensfrost and Mastershrine towards the medicine cat. "Wiselypaw, just in time! Look at the dreadful condition of these two fine warriors of yours! The poor lads... brave souls they are indeed. Fallclan is certainly blessed to have them."
"I think this guy just likes to hear his own voice..." Ravensfrost whispered to Weaselpaw as he limped towards him. "But I would take a look at Mastershrine-"
"We should let Hysteria know of this right away. Where could he have gone on such short notice?" Aries interrupted loudly as he looked around the camp. "And who has he left in charge! Is there no one of authority here to investigate what has happened?"
Hearing quite a bit of commotion from where she had been resting in the warriors den, Pinesnap poked her head out just as the two injured cats were making their way towards Weaselpaw. Curiosity got the best of her and she snooped closer on silent paws to listen in. Not getting much from Aries speech she finally glided forward and approached the group. "What happened?" She asked, her focus mostly on the medicine cat and the injured cats that were now needing to be tended to.

"Mastershrine and Ravenfrost were injured on a patrol, I'm going to attend to them now," Weaselpaw answered Pinesnap without allowing Aries to put in his two sense before he could get a word out. If the ghostly cat wanted to find Hystericstar so bad he could go look for him himself, the apprentice thought quietly to himself as he nodded to Ravenfrost, "You need that cut cleaned and closed, thats of most importance," he explained, "Breaks and sprains are long term, I can worry about those after."
Mastershrine slowly shifted his weight, allowing the support that he had been providing Ravensfrost to be transferred to Weaselpaw as the other tom came up to them. Then, he turned to Aries. "There's Rivergale - the deputy - and the aurulents! It's not like Hystericstar left the camp without anyone here." His voice was defensive, but as his gaze swept around the camp, the distinct lack of the cat who had raised him stuck out to him. Jayjack would have normally marched up to them first, but he was nowhere to be found either.
Deciding to not focus too much on that fact, he turned his attention to Pinesnap. "We had been on a patrol together near the WinterClan border, but there was a mudslide. We were caught up in it - simple as that. It wasn't anyone's fault." Pale green eyes cut to glare at Aries with the last sentence.

Aries tsked as he walked around Mastershrine, gently sweeping his tail over the tom’s flank. “Dear, dear Mastershrine.” He cooed, his voice like a poisonous melody. “If only you really knew. So quick to defend a leader that hardly cares about you or your clan mates. To leave a deputy in charge while he goes off on a… what is it you call it… a date?”
“If he doesn’t shut his mouth I’ll happily do it for him…” Ravensfrost hissed softly to Weaselpaw as he allowed the medicine cat to lead him away.
“Look around you, my dears…!” Aries said, sweeping his paws across the camp. “Your poor deputy and aurelents are stretched thin enough as it is! A clan is nothing without good leadership.”
Pinesnap was about to respond to Mastershrine when Aries voice cut in, grating down to her nerves. She cast a quick glare towards her clan mate before nodding in understanding to Mastershrine. “And you’re saying that our leader caused this mudslide or something? Besides, stretched thin or not we’re a clan that works together,” she said, her voice barely a murmur. She wasn’t one to cause a scene or publicly argue, but this was starting to seem ridiculous, especially with Aries voice still echoing through out the camp. It’s like he wanted them to be angry with their leader.
"Just because they're stretched thin doesn't mean they're not doing their best..!" Every muscle in Mastershrine's poor, hurting body told him that he needed to just walk away - go follow Weaselpaw and Ravensfrost to the medicine cat den, or even just go retreat to his own bed and get some rest, anything as long as he was off of his swollen paw. But, no one ever claimed that the warrior was the wisest, and perhaps it was the blow to his head earlier that was making his decisions even worse. For whatever reason, the grey tabby just couldn't pull himself away from arguing with Aries.
Unlike Pinesnap, Mastershrine made no attempt to lower his voice. The adrenaline of pulling himself and Ravensfrost back to camp still pumped throughout his body. "What, you think you could do any better? Do you have any idea how hard it is to help lead a clan? Hystericstar might not be the best leader in the mountains, but he could have left at any moment if he didn't want to be leader! He's trying! ...Probably." The absent leader did make it hard to defend him. Had he ever shown any form of love or care to the clan that he led? Mastershrine couldn't remember, but he decided to stand firm in his defense anyway.

Weaselpaw found himself at Mastershrine's side, wholeheartedly agreeing with him. Not only was Hystericstar their leader, he was a medicine cat, and a mentor. He did plenty for his clan, and this could have happened at any time. It was simply coincidence that it happened while he was out. And the clan was well capable enough to handle the aftermath, his own training was a testament to that. "Come on, lets get you some rest, hes not worth the arguing," he huffed, nudging the warrior with his shoulder. "He couldnt have done any better, present or not."
