Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
She had given the two an order, they were going to deal with whatever it was they needed to deal with, and then they were to report back to her so that the three of them could discuss what was appropriate behavior, because obviously, the leader hadn't prepared them enough for what diplomacy was to look like. She had been irritated with them at first, most of the walk back between the three adults, she found herself grumbling about jeapordizing her goals. But, since she had returned to the leader's den, where she waited for the two of them, the leader had realized something: they were children. Even though they were now full warriors, they still were young. She needed to not be so hard on them. After all, it was only a few seasons ago that she was thrust into a position she hadn't been quite mature enough to assume yet. It was in this realization that the leader softened; no, she wouldn't be angry with them. Instead, this would be strictly a learning moment. If she wanted them to be better, she would need to teach them to be better.
The leader's whiskers twitched as she sat in the back of her den. It was near dawn, so she imagined that they would be there any moment now. They would be tired, she could feel her own sleepiness flex at the back of their mind, but hopefully, they would still have enough energy to deal with the business they needed to before they could all sleep.

Aspenstar was wrong about them being sleepy, because after their little tryst in the woods–and well, their long-drawn love confessions and everything else that had transpired after–Moonblight was feeling more energetic than ever before. He was utterly lovesick, his stomach so full of butterflies he was practically floating in the air. As he entered, his fur mussed up but eyes bright, he had the decency to look a little sheepish. Still, it was clear from one look at his grass-stained fur and the redness of his ears that they had 'sorted out' their issues one way or another.
"Aspenstar," he greeted, his face still feeling warm as he sat in her presence, head ducked a little to make himself look smaller for the lecture he'd certainly be getting.
Sagebristle's fur was on fire the moment she stepped into camp. It really wasn't any different from when she returned from patrols with Moonblight, only everything was different. Were more cats looking at them than usual? Could they tell? Was it obvious from the leftover stardust in her gaze and the sappy way her feet almost skipped as she walked? Good gods, she must look ridiculous- this wasn't like her, she was supposed to be tough and scrappy and now her lips kept curling up in an unconscious smile.
Sagebristle nodded in greeting as they enetered the den, sure that she'd burst into a fit of giggles if she opened her mouth right now, and sat a few inches away from Moonblight, still overly conscious of his body next to hers. Despite the seriousness of the situation, she couldn't keep her tail tip from twitching, a hum of pleasure in her chest.
"You have got to be kidding me." The words were spoken more to herself than anything, but Aspenstar spoke them loud enough to make sure that both of them knew exactly how she felt about the fact they didn't even clean themselves up before coming to the seat of the throne. "What on earth did Larkspur teach you to? Not a whole lot, it seems," she continued to grumble, although there was no real anger in her voice. Instead, her tone carried the exact same exasperation that she felt in that moment.
She sighed deeply, curling her tail around her paws. "You have precisely thirteen seconds to tell me why I shouldn't whack both of you upside the head after your performance tonight."

Moonblight for once, looked unable to say anything, even to meet Aspenstar's eyes. Right. About that. There was no reason for her not to whack him in the head, and maybe if he was thinking straight, he could've come up with some excuse about how he was just distracting them...you know...to make it less tense...it could've been an opening to attack if they really wanted to...
But here he was, stupidly in love, looking blankly at Sagebristle before daring to turn his eyes to their leader. "Because uh...we did what you told us to and solved our...issues?"
Sagebristle nodded along to that explanation, now looking properly abashed. "And because what happened at the Primal Instinct meeting won't happen again," she added quickly, glancing over at Moonblight and feeling her lips twitch involuntarily before she shoved them back into place. "We're very sorry and we know it wasn't... professional."
"You're absolutely right it won't," she meowed with a smile, although her tone didn't well match the expression. Aspenstar was really fighting herself as she looked at the two of them, the patient maternal figure at war with the rugged feline who saw no excuse for the behaviors. Her tail thrashed back and forth as the two sides clashed, the side that was unsatisfied with their reasons not to bonk them, and the side that could remember being in their positions, nervous and young, unprepared for the world.
"If something like that happens again, you will face removal from post. Explain to me why that would be the appropriate action if a second incident is to occur." She could have posed it as a question, the way she posed the other, but instead, it was a command. If she was to know that they understood the full capacity of the risks involved with mixing business and personal, she needed to hear it from their mouths. Plus, there was a part of her that was genuinely curious: did they even know the dangers that could have erupted? Come to think about it, Aspenstar wasn't sure.

Moonblight honestly didn't see it as anything so serious, even though he knew exactly the consequences of his own actions. He had heard stories of the league, after all, grown up on how terrible those cats were...yet, they didn't exactly attack either. How strange. He hadn't been paying attention back then but now...
He frowned. They certainly did have a lot of cats that night, yet few had really shown themselves, and the strangest part was...they didn't attack. What was that supposed to mean? What kind of leader lets another come in so unabashed, and allows them to leave with threats on their lips?
"Do you think they can really take us?" he wondered out loud, before realizing he had spoken. Right. His face flushed, as he ducked his head, feeling as if he shouldn't have spoken. "I...it's just that they...everything about them points to that they should've attacked us, right? They had the advantage, and if they killed us all, it's not like NightClan can retaliate if we're all dead...which...it doesn't make sense. Why did you bring all of us and why did we go into their territory unless..."
He seemed thoughtful, before shaking his head. "It might be kind of dumb," he admitted, "but do you think that maybe they don't actually have the strength to...you know, beat us in a battle? I always heard they were scary and that they'll kill anyone without a second thought but...I don't know why they didn't kill us, you know?"
"Well, regardless," Sagebristle added quickly, though she secretly agreed with Moonblight's assessment of the League's strength. "It was unprofessional and it... detracted from the serious nature of the meeting." Aspenstar wanted some kind of answer, and Sagebristle had been well aware herself of the detriment their interaction had had on her image. When you spent your life cultivating a tough image, a boy bringing you flowers was a blow to it. Undoubtedly it would also be a blow to Nightclan's image.
"If I thought they were a threat, I wouldn't have brought you all to their door. However, Primal Instinct are cowards; they talk a big talk, but when it comes to action, nothing." Aspenstar seemed all too agreeable when it came to the other clan's weaknesses. "You are learning quickly that I do not do anything without deeply considering the outcomes of my actions." This was true; Aspenstar was always acutely aware of the situations she put herself in. She was deeply invested in the game of life that she eagerly participated in, invested enough that she seemed to always know exactly what cards the opposition had in their deck. It was what made her a formidable enemy: she was brilliant and strategic, acutely aware of all of the plays that possible at any given moment.
"As for your assesment of the situation," she meowed, turning her gaze to Sagebristle, "you aren't as clear. It wasn't just because it was unprofessional, but about the message that the lack of professionality sends. I don't give a damn about the seriousness of the conversation either." She offered an ambivalent shrug; she really didn't care about any of that. "What I do care about is that, for a moment, it made NightClan appear weak. It made my guard look laughable, composed of children who do not know when it is time to work and when it is time to play. It left an opportunity for Primal Instinct to retaliate, because it left an opportunity for us to be considered subpar. Think about it this way. If you were the Nemesis of Primal Instinct, and you saw such a display of boyish innocence, would you not capitalize on that? All it takes is a single moment of weakness, of showing the enemy our bellies, for the entire game to change."
Her words were delivered without harshness. She was not yelling at them, per say. She was simply trying to open their eyes to the reality of the situation. "If I was Regulus, I would have used it as an opportunity to attack, or at least filed the information away to use at a later date. Primal Instinct now knows that my guard is juvenile, unfamiliar with the inner workings of delicate situations. If NightClan's best and brightest are children, what does that say for the rest of the clan? Do you understand the seriousness of this now?"

Moonblight's shoulders slumped at her lecture. It was true, he knew how stupid all of it was after they had stared at him, but frankly, he was just...not thinking that night. It had seemed so exciting and the leaders were all talking up front; he had assumed they wouldn't hear him whisper to Sagebristle way behind them anyway, considering they weren't all that important. He didn't know why they had made such a big deal upon his entry, and why they had all acted so strange after. Primal Instinct cats were insane, and they were evil, his father once said. He didn't exactly know why they were so 'fearsome' when they barely did anything, just empty threats and weird crazies littered all over the place.
"Well if we do extra training and keep up the facade of being young and stupid, maybe they'd underestimate us," he suggested weakly, "I still don't know why they didn't attack us." They were in another's territory, a full patrol against the entirety of the league...it made no sense to him that they didn't have to fight their way out, especially when the leaders clashed so badly.
"It's not an entirely bad thing," Sagebristle said after a moment of careful consideration. "If they underestimate us. It means they won't be expecting us to be as good as we are. Though I do understand what you're saying," she added quickly, noting how Aspenstar looked at her. "We're sorry. And it won't happen again."
With that, she stepped on Moonblight's foot, trying to get him to apologize as well.
Aspenstar let her lips twitch into a smile, albeit it was a sort of sinister smile. "Good, now you're thinking like Loyal Guard members," she complemented the two of them. "You're understanding the game of politics now. It's a silly little game, but, for better or for worse, it is a game we have all dedicated our lives to." She shrugged; one could not have power without politics, and all three cats had power, albeit to various extents. "The rules are simple. First, do not show weakness. Second, if you do, turn every perceived weakness into a strength."
She then rose to her paws. She touched each of their shoulders with her tail, the look in her eyes illegible. "See to it that it doesn't," she meowed with a nod, not waiting for Moonblight's apology nor recognizing Sagebristle's, before motioning the two towards the entrance of the den. "Tomorrow evening I want you both to report back here. The three of us will spend the evening doing some training about how to handle foreign affairs. For now, rest. It was a big night tonight," she meowed, glancing at the entrance of the den to confirm that it was, indeed, fully daylight. "Do you have any final questions?"

The young guard shook his head, eyes still wide like the moon he was named after, as he glanced briefly to Sagebristle, pondering whether this extra training was just what guards did, or whether this was their punishment for their lack of tact during that league meeting. In a way, he was glad he wasn't chewed out as much; he had expected more anger from Aspenstar, and then again, he still had to face Larkspur...he grimaced at that. It didn't sound pleasant at all.
When Aspenstar left, he turned to Sagebristle. "I thought we were going to be in bigger trouble than we were," he whispered.
"Don't test our luck- we haven't had our ears chewed off by Larkspur yet," she said, biting back her own grin. Still, he was right. Aspenstar didn't seem as angry as she'd expected, and for that, Sagebristle's respect for the leader grew. With a purr, she pressed into Moonblight's side- their new relationship made it impossible to stay chastised for long. How could they be properly ashamed when there was so much joy in this moment?
"C'mon, let's go re-arrange our nests while we're both still in Nightclan," she said, bumping his shoulder. "I want to move my moss over before someone else takes the empty nest near you."

Moonblight grinned, brushing his pelt against hers too. "Yeah, let's just hope we get out of camp before we bump into her tomorrow," he joked, as he rasped his tongue across her ear, warmth written in his eyes.
"Yeah, let's go," he agreed with a nod, as he trotted next to Sagebristle, "maybe we can go out and look for feathers or something to make it more comfortable."
