Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Fogpaw had followed his mother out of the City of Ash that night. He knew she snuck out of the camp and the surround woods quite often, but he never had the courage to chase after her before. But the suspense was killing him and he needed to know the reason right that second. So keeping out of sight to the best of his abilities. He watched her approach the Nightclan border, but try to stay hidden out of sight. She appeared to be waiting for someone. From the distance he stood he couldn't sense her emotions, but he could tell from the look on her face there was a sense of longing and grief. He watched Losteden give up and head back in the direction of the City of Ash. The young tom chose to stay behind to see what the reason was for her lingering near the border.
It seemed like Dawnbringer would always just barely miss meeting with his sister, though he didn't know it. It was only moments later, after Losteden had left, that Dawnbringer would arrive at the border. He never quite stepped out of NightClan territory, but stood staring into the MoonClan side as if waiting for someone. How often had he come here? He wasn't quite sure, but it was probably more often than he should've been.
Despite all of his watching, he had failed to notice the apprentice hiding just out of sight.
Fogpaw watched a tom approached the border. The stranger appeared to be looking for his mother. Was this the reason his mother was endangering their chances getting into Moonclan. He wouldn't stand for it, he refused to let his mother make a foolish mistake. The small Moonclan student lept out of his hiding spot with a battle cry. Rushing the other tom headbutting him in the side.
The sudden cry startled Dawnbringer, but it also managed to snap him out of his thoughts. While the headbutt would probably hurt another apprentice, it had very little affect on the Loyal Guard member. Vibrant green eyes glanced down at Fogpaw, his face scrunching in confusion. While he knew that it was always possible that a different cat could find him here and start a fight, he had never imagined that such a small apprentice would be the one to do it.
"What are you doing?" he asked. All of his usually controlled expressions and tones fell away at the weirdness of the situation. He was genuinely taken back by this.
Fogpaw was still young and was still sporting kitten fluff on his pelt. Between his fur being spikey making him look like a puff ball and his back arched to make him look bigger. There was nothing intimidating or remotely terrifying about Fogpaw's attempts. If anything it was rather amusing that the young cat would even think to try and square up with another cat triple his size. "What are you doing! This is the Moonclan border!"
It took a few moments, but after Fogpaw's brave declaration, Dawnbringer's confusion melted into amusement. This time, the emotion was hidden once again behind his careful control. "And I am still in NightClan," he said, giving a pointed look at the ground before returning his gaze back to the apprentice.
As gently as he could, he grasped Fogpaw's scruff in his mouth, placing the apprentice a few steps back. "And now, you're back in MoonClan." In all honesty, the tom had no idea how to treat others - especially when they were this young. Momentarily, he wondered about Duskveil and her kits. He had no idea what had happened to Sunrisekit, but he would be around probably look something like this, wouldn't he?
"Hey what's the big idea! Let me down!" Fogpaw protested as he struggled briefly in Dawnbringer's grasp for a moment. Only to realize the older tom had placed him back on his side of the border. The flame point glared up at him almost to be sizing him up. He sensed the confusion turning to amusement. "Is something funny..." He asked as his eyes became thin slits.
"Funny? No, never." If it were anyone else, they probably would have believed him with the lack of humor in his voice. Little did Dawnbringer know, the carefully masked emotions were of little use in front of this apprentice. Even if he did know, it was almost second nature at this point to hide his feelings. "So, what was a MoonClan apprentice doing in NightClan territory?"
"What was a Nightclan cat doing lurking around the border." He answered the older tom's question with a question. Fogpaw believed he was smooth with his words. That he had managed to outsmart the older cat, but most definitely unsuccessfully dodged the Nightclan cat's question.
"Ah, so you were waiting for me, then?" Dawnbringer had doubted that this was an accidental meeting - no one would just tackle a cat on the other side of the border if they had just coincidentally saw them. The brown tabby may not have been the smartest out there, but he wasn't dumb. "And what business did you have with me then to immediately want to attack me?"
"I wasn't waiting for you, but someone I know was and I want to know why." Fogpaw frowned, he wasn't the smartest cat in the forest. He jumped to conclusions too quickly and was too eager to jump into fights. Clearly intelligence didn't run in the family.
Whatever the answer that Dawnbringer had been expecting, that certainly wasn't it. He had thought that perhaps his near-daily visits hadn't gone unnoticed, and some apprentice with a power complex had decided to take action about it. But someone had been waiting for him, other than this apprentice? "I have no idea what you're talking about," he said.
"My mother, she's been sneaking out of camp to come to the border. She's going to get caught and there will be serious consequences if she does. So tell me why does she keep coming to the border and why are you now at the border?" Fogpaw ask not knowing when to shut his mouth. Instead he practically spilled all of his mom's dirty secrets to the enemy. Who was in fact a Loyal Guard, but Fogpaw didn't know that because he had never once gone to a Gathering.
Dawnbringer hadn't noticed anyone else - either NightClan or MoonClan - coming to the border as often as he was, so he couldn't figure out why this apprentice thought he had something to do with his mother's visits. The only cat that he even knew of in MoonClan was Duskveil - or, he believed, anyway. And their last meeting hadn't gone well, with her not knowing who he was at all, so he doubted that it could be her visiting the border. Vaguely, he remembered his previous thought of Sunrisekit. "I'm not all-seeing, how would I know?" he replied.
"She was just here." He deadpanned his tail twitched a little out of annoyance. The young elemental had been too preoccupied to even pay attention to the other cat's emotions. If he had been he may of been able to pick up on clues to help him determine if this other cat was telling him the truth or not. Sadly Fogpaw had made up his mind and was convinced that Dawnbringer was lying to him.
"And I just got here. I guess we just missed each other, then," he responded. Was this apprentice worried that his mother was in love with a tom from NightClan? Why did that matter? Unless she already had a mate and was cheating? Just what had Dawnbringer gotten himself involved with this time?
"Are you here secret lover or something?? Doesn't Nightclan have their own ginger she-cats that you can chase after." Fogpaw asked and briefly wondered if this tom was secretly his dad or something.
"Sorry to burst your bubble, but I couldn't care less about any romance with your mother," he said, tail twitching behind him. But then, the apprentice's second sentence registered in his mind. "Ginger? What does she look like?" The chance was very slim, after all there were plenty of ginger she-cats in the world, but there was still a chance. A chance that he was talking about Duskveil, and that this apprentice was Sunrisekit.
"Idk she's ginger and white tabby. Has obnoxiously large ears and kind of looks like your ugly mug." Fogpaw answered feeling slightly uneasy why the tom was suddenly wondering why this tom wanted to know. "Why what's it to you?"
The insult flew right over Dawnbringer's head, for he was far too shocked by the description. It had to be! "Duskveil?" he muttered, voice quiet, before turning his full gaze back onto the apprentice. Yes, he was older, but he certainly looked like Sunrisekit. "It's her!" he exclaimed, excitement radiating off of him. She was alive, and he hadn't been imagining their interaction moons ago!
