"If you so much as think about taking that mouse, I will gut you where you stand and leave you for carrion," Festeringfruit growled. The small, curly-furred tom stalked up to the fresh-kill pile, shoving aside the cat that had been standing there with his shoulder, and made to grab the mouse off of the top. He had been eyeing it for hours, and now that he was finally done with his stupid patrol, the warrior wanted nothing more than to settle down with his food and be left in peace.

Joypaw's mouth had just closed around the mouse, when suddenly she got shoved out of the way and the mouse fell back onto the pile. She looked at the strange looking top with astonishment, to stunned at the rather rude behavior to come up with a response immediately "You know, that wasn't very nice Festeringfruit" she replied after a moment, but there was no malice in her gaze "You could have asked for the mouse nicely, I would have given it to you" she sat down beside of him, determined to figure out why he was in such a bad mood "You seem like something is bothering you. Can I help? Do you have a bad tooth, a thorn stuck in your paw?" Cleaver
Ugh. Apprentices. They were rude and insubordinate, nasty little creatures, and Joypaw was incredibly lucky that apprentices got to choose their mentors these days because if she was paired with him by some cosmic mistake, she would not have lasted more than a few days. He ought to have a reputation for how many apprentices he had driven out of the clan or to their deaths.
"I have one giant thorn in my side and its name is Joypaw," he snapped back. Festeringfruit had only returned to the clan a few days ago -- he had waited for his dense, curly chest fur to partially regrow before he dared step within SunClan borders again -- and he was already tired of their treatment of him.

Joypaw blinked "You named a thorn after me? Here let me see" It was a little odd but she wasn't going to question it
The young apprentice bounded over and began to run her paws over his side in search of the thorn "Momma taught me how to pull thorns out. It will hurt a little bit, but just be brave for me! You will feel a lot better after I get it" her paws rand over his sides, doing her best to be gentle and not to get tangled in his messy coat "I got a thorn in my tail once and I was so grumpy because it hurt. Then I got it out and it was all better"
Festeringfruit snarled as she laid her paws on him, traumatic images flashing through his mind: Weepingpaw, staggering against him in the tunnel; his fur tearing away, hot and scratchy and horrific. A wordless scream left his maw and the warrior spun around and shoved her back, then slapped her across the face.
"Keep your dirty paws off me. I WILL kill you," he snarled, looming over her as best he could. His short stature left him close to the same size of the apprentice, but the darkness in his eyes was unholy.

Joypaw met his gaze unflinching, the darkness in his a gaze a challenge instead of frightening
"Sir, that was rather rude of you. I was only trying to help ease your discomfort and get the thorn out of your side. If you would be so kind as to sit down and stop your howling, you will feel a lot better in a moment. I do apologize if I hit a sore spot, but if you don't get that thorn out it will get infected and then you will be in for an even rougher time" Joypaw stepped forward to use her paws to ease him back into a laying position "You might as well let me get it out now, or I will continue to search you every morning and evening until I find it"
He knocked her paws off of him with a swipe and lunged, shoving her to the ground; one paw caught the bottom of her jaw and he shoved it down, crushing her face into the dirt as his claws dug into her cheek. "I told you," he snarled in her ear, bracing his other forepaw on her side and slowly digging in his claws, "I would kill you. Didn't I tell you? Didn't I warn you? Last chance to save yourself, kid."
