Almost a week or so had passed since the body was found.
He had spoken to his sister. He had found out things about her that he hadn't known. He had spoken to Reynardine, but he was no closer to figuring out what was going on. There was a feeling he had, that he was being watched all the same; the loch had always felt like that, like the invisible eyes of the three-headed god had followed them, and even now, deep into this forest, he had seen the sights, the signs...
As much as he had wanted to leave it all, leave everything in the past, this wasn't a fresh start, more like another door in the twisted pathways of a haunted mansion he couldn't escape.
He found himself wandering the forests and the paths created by his fellow hunters, brow furrowed in his heavy pondering. In the distance, he saw a familiar pelt, a familiar face from that night. He couldn't quite remember her name, only that she was a trainee, plenty smaller than the rest of the cats that he had seen that night.
"Hey," he called out, trotting forward, "you're...I don't remember your name but you were there that night, weren't you?"

The lykoi trainee was startled with trill which was unusual for her previous being so calm and taking things in stride. This whole 'loch' revelation had really throw her off since that night, as she relaxed her posture and tried to regain her composure- judging by the avoidance of eye contact and nervous quality to her she still was not quite settled. Life was weird enough for youngsters, and although she previously had a brave spirit to chase after adventure like many others this was not the kind of messy, young-life crisis she wanted to be involved in. She was okay with the group she was born in and fought for, the questioning morals of the lineage she came from but now was she? Did any of that matter? Was there a whole another life she had? Was she a whole another person? Was her brother? Was any of them? It was an overbearing amount of things she was over thinking naturally.
"I .. don't know, I can barely remember that night..." she tried to dismiss it, but didn't deny it.

His eyes softened in sympathy. It must've been difficult really, for a cat like that to really see something so...dark. Had he been so young to see a cat with its head above ground, maggots and flies and branches twisting from its mouth...he didn't know how he'd react either. The tom's first expression was one of concern. "Are you...okay after all of that?" he asked once more, tentatively, "it must've been quite a shock, no? I know I would've been just as unnerved if I had seen that out of the blue."
He gave her a tentative smile. "I'm Hywel, and you are?"

She had a quiet pause without making eye contact.
"I don't know... I know PI is all about slasher and gore-fest and I used to think it funny, or cool to hear my mom and dad talk about stuff like that..." she finally relented in just getting some of it out since she couldn't even bring herself to talk to her own brother about it before but now it was overtaking her thoughts in her mind. "But they never showed us that kind of stuff." She didn't know how to feel when daddy dearest had been open to showed them 'artwork's that surely would've looked like the event in question or of similar caliber but mother knows best in keep that kind of gruesome life away from them as young kits.
"I'm Alula-nova-kun." she finally made eye-contact and happy to change the subject to just normal greetings and introductions.

He shook his head. Young cats like her shouldn't have seen something so dark, he thought. It was strange, the idea of a cat growing up in an environment like this. Would they learn to love the kill? Would they simply get used to it? "Are you from around here?" he asked kindly, "or were your parents from somewhere else?" He had wondered, after all, how many of the cats they had met were from the loch. Reynardine was one, and the two sisters seemed to know what was going on. It had creeped him out to understand that there were others, cats who had left, either by accident or escaped like himself. He wondered what their intentions were.
"Alula-nova-kun," he spoke, testing the name out, "it's a lovely name. You had a brother, right?"

"Yeah I mean my parents were born- well.." she paused at that. Come to think of it, neither of her parents talked about their families, it was funny to think about. She knew her parents knew each other since they were kits, her mother was abandoned in PI territory when she was a child, she probably didn't remember much from then or nothing she would want to her kits and she didn't ask any further. Her father on the other hand was also aban- no found on PI? She could remember her mother saying he mentioned he once had a family, at least a sister but she never met an aunt and from the sound of it he grew up in PI alone.
"I know they were raised here, but I don't know where they come from." she admitted, not picking up on the questioning and what his motives were when she was wrapped up in her own revelations of interest about her origins. "Thanks, and yeah Tarn-kun." she always thought her name was bit long and didn't blame a cat for shortening it but one day she lose the '-kun' and that would help.
"Say, where do you come from?" she didn't pay attention to everyone when she was younger, and maybe it was just the rumors she heard or the common theme of abandon kits ended up in PI, but she had a feeling there was a chance this cat wasn't born here or that there was some connection that led them all to being there that day.

Hywel nodded. There were plenty of cats here that didn't know where they were from, he supposed. Surely there were some who had grown up in the league, but more often, they were cats who found themselves here, who found freedom in the sadism and the darkened halls and alleys of the city...it wasn't somewhere one would go looking for, but somewhere they'd find.
His expression shifted somewhat at her question, as if looking rather uncomfortable now. He was certain that the others were from the loch, and while Reynardine had been a friendly face, he wasn't so sure about the others. Niamh had seemed almost aggressive as they spoke, and surely some of the others weren't exactly friendly either...there was always a fear, that the loch would send their own assassins in pursuit of defectors, but surely this cat, barely older than a kit, wouldn't be a cat they'd send to murder him.
"I'm from far away," he spoke, deciding to tell her anyway, "somewhere we used to call the loch where Herne once hunted, but it's north, past the highlands...quite a distance away."

It was a funny thought Alula-nova was in fact also slightly scared and intimidated by the others' mere presence and if not for her brother she would've gladly ran away and never talked about that night ever again. Him aside, she had only interacted with Verne before all of this who was like a fun, big sister or a role model in her eyes. Now that she thought about it, she was glad Hywel seemed normal and dampen her own fear - of running the risk of approaching cats many moons her senior about that night just to get talked down or ignored because she was just a trainee and didn't need to be asking questions.
"Loch eh? Herne..." she tested the names out something felt vaguely familiar about that but, "sounds kinda lik.... nah, probably nothing. Oh, but now that I think about it I wonder if it would be any use to ask daddy about that... 'statue' " she tried to find the right word for it. "I don't know all the details, but I think Uta might know something about being 'artful' with the dead. I've been wanting to ask, but mom doesn't let him talk about it around us..." she pouted a bit like any kid would who hated being excluded from a secret. ".. Plus I haven't told either of my parents about that night, or anyone really.." She didn't know if she should keep it that way, but talking about it now was giving her the courage to bring it up with Tarn-kun and making curious about this strange mystery they seemed to have stumble upon.

He was curious. Was Uta the one behind this? The other cat seemed rather...interesting. Unhinged maybe, but not to such an extent that it bothered Hywel at all. The cats around here weren't exactly tame; he had tried to kill him the first time they had met and frankly, the fact that he could survive a fall from such a height truly made Hywel wonder what kind of shenanigans that cat could survive in total. Still, Alula didn't seem much like her father. Uta seemed confident, perhaps almost overly so, sauntering around with that boyish grin and that smug smirk as if he owned the damn place.
This cat seemed almost timid, as if unsure of everything; she seemed too innocent to really be here at all. He felt a strange urge inside him, to protect her. "Yeah, it's not something you can just bring up on a regular conversation," he sighed, I wouldn't know how to tell anyone if Rhiannon didn't see it with me, you know? I guess most of us probably feel that way. I don't believe in fate or gods putting us into places but in a way, it's sort of weird how we all stumbled upon it, you know?"

"Same, if Tarn-kun didn't see it with me..." she echoed the same sentiment, finding it so funny how she could relate to the older cat she previously had no connection to. It made her wonder if Rhiannon was the same as her own brother... or was Tarn-kun feeling the same as her? / I guess most of us probably feel that way. / Wait, were they all feeling the same way?? Why didn't she think of it before?
"Yeah, I actually never thought about gods and that stuff much. Just thought it was more of a clan cat kind of thing... What if.. I mean could that happen? Being something ... more than us? I know I'm supposed to say it's not, it's just a coincidence and I'm just young, and being a- a kit for thinking it but ... I feel like it's worth looking into it."

He gave an awkward little chuckle, not sure how to respond to that. Could they? He didn't believe in the gods, not in the same way Rhiannon did. Hywel had always been a little more skeptical, assuming they were just legends or stories that kept some kind of culture or tradition up north...but he wasn't so sure. He was agnostic simply because he hated making decisions like this.
Still, he couldn't ignore the coincidence. "It could be," he replied with a sigh, "but none of this makes sense. I don't know what ties all of us together, you know? Sure, I know what this meant, but everyone else...what do we all have in common?"
