Glowstar's paw trembled uneasily as she lead Peachstar onto SunClan grounds, not waiting for a patrol.
Since SpringClan and DayClan's escape there was one major aspect of the clan missing and it was their kits still tucked away in SunClan camp. During the escape they could only save those who were in the makeshift camp further away from SunClan's base where their kits were held. Having recruited two clans to show up and threaten SunClan left them on poor terms. There was nothing DayClan or SpringClan had to make SunClan give back their kits. Since NightClan and BrookClan disbanded their allegiance to SunClan she knew Spring and her own clan could effectively invade and take the kits back. However DayClan's numbers dwindled since being imprisoned and SpringClan wasn't exactly doing swell after just being imprisoned as well. In the warmer moons they would be strong, but the kits by then would be apprentices and likely brain washed.
This brought about another issue, her front legs. During their imprisonment prey had gotten low especially given leafbare and with SunClan needing to provide for themselves and two outsider clans Glowstar had begun to hunt in the freezing waters just to provide a meal for SunClan so they could continue to hunt for them. The cold took a toll on her front legs numbing her nearly all the way to the sockets. She was recovering, but it wasn't fast enough and if she had to fight she knew it would be flimsy at best. Peachstar and her didn't have anything, only their words.
"I know things are bad and both of our clans are expecting us to bring everyone home. But just as a reminder to you, you can't let her convince you to sign your soul away to her or something crazy just to get them back," Glowstar said softly to Peachstar.
Her broken stride tripped for a moment before regaining her balance, walking in the snow wasn't exactly helping her condition.
Foxstar, admittedly, wasn't in the best shape, though she was getting better every day. She'd more or less recovered from her concussion, or at least, the noticeable effects of it. The injuries she'd sustained would take longer to heal, but even those were coming along nicely with her attentive care. In a way, she was glad to be rid of the two clans, who'd been draining SunClan's resources for some time now. On the other paw, she'd noted each and every leader and cat who had participated in the rescue, and vowed silently to get revenge. That was pretty standard for the Priestess, however, and would all happen in due time.
SpringClan and DayClan hadn't come for their kits yet, but it was only a matter of time. Of course, she really had no intention of relinquishing them. At current, she considered even slaughtering them as an alternative to handing them over. Neither clan was strong enough to stop her until newleaf, least of all on her own turf. The kits would be dead long before either made it through their maze of an entrance.
Alternatively, she could let them go. Not all of them wanted to leave, and there were others she could send who were brainwashed and would come back to her one day. At the moment, she really didn't have a plan, instead deciding she could play it by ear when Peachstar and Glowstar inevitably showed up.
"Those kits are the future of our Clan," Peachstar muttered through his teeth, eyes fixed solely on the path in front of him. Though he hadn't had quite as much time after he'd became leader, he'd always managed to take a few minutes out of his day and hang out in the nursery, learning all the kits' hobbies and noting who they seemed to work best with. "Meanwhile, I'm replaceable. My soul would be nothing compared to theirs....I'd be fine selling my soul if it meant they'd be okay." His eyes softened slightly as he thought of Thane, who had so selflessly come and willingly offered himself into captivity just to be with Peachstar. Could he really live with himself if he had to leave Thane behind?
He only looked in Glowstar's direction when he heard the she-cat stumble slightly, frowning in concern. They'd all sustained injuries during their captivity, but some had been worse off than others; while Peachstar had twisted a paw during a particularly unimpressive escape attempt, his companion had managed to somehow numb what seemed like the entire front half of her torso hunting for her Clan - which was certainly admirable, even if it was worrying Peachstar now. "You okay...?" he asked hesitantly. "Foxstar is probably expecting us to show up..." He left the implication that they'd possibly have to fight SunClan again unspoken.
"Peachstar... You can't. Look at what happened when Burningstar essentially sold her soul, her loyalty over to Kerrigan. She had to fight against your clan in battle because Kerrigan was loyal to Foxstar. That's the kind of dirty tasks she'll assign you to do and even if she makes a task sound light and harmless it will be harmful to someone. Don't be the next NightClan, Peachstar. No matter what she threatens to do we have to try and stay strong and resist... Unless she's going to murder them and I mean. Whatever you agree to I will too. Kits our every clans concern, that's the warrior code."
She looked up ahead and grimaced, yeah, they were expecting them, they would have been stopped by now. It was almost more unnerving not being met by any SunClan cats as they approached the camp, "We're here to speak to Foxstar," Glowstar said to any eyes that looked at the two leaders at the entrance, but Glowstar didn't enter the camp, not until she saw Foxstar.
Indeed, Foxstar had heard of their presence from a long way off, and had already warned SunClan to let them pass. As such, it was the Priestess herself who appeared from the entrance to the maze of an entrance, her tail twitching slightly. She knew what they wanted, and currently, she had all the power in this. They were here, alone, bargaining for that which she had securely in her grip. They could've brought WinterClan and the Regime and forced her to hand over the kits, but they didn't. So, it seemed they were hoping that she'd give them back out of the kindness of her heart. How naive. "We have much to discuss." The fox-hearted feline agreed, already stepping past them, "Follow me."
Glowstar looked at Peachstar and gave him a friendly nudge of encouragement, "Remember, in this together," she smiled before following after Foxstar, but didn't look too certain about what lied ahead.
Good, they were at least listening. After Glowstar's recent attacks on her, Foxstar had been half convinced the she-cat would simply try and kill her to get the kits back. Of course, once she heard that the Priestess had no intentions of releasing them... well, she fully expecting things to go south rather quickly. They'd fought more in these past few days than ever, and both of them appeared to be on the edge of killing each other again. Really, Foxstar didn't want to have to go find someone to bring Glowstar back to life because they'd gotten in a little argument again, so she hoped this might go a bit better than she expected. The feeling in the pit of her stomach, however, told her that sooner or later, claws would flash, and she'd have to deal with yet another battle.
Internal feeling aside, the Priestess led them around the edge of the gorge, until they reached the plains to the northeast of camp, a river running through the eastern side, and the river that fed into the gorge to the south. It was as good a place as any to talk, wide open, but still just a walk around the gorge from camp, and without anyone here to bother them. "Now, why are you here?" Foxstar's question was pointed, as though she had no idea of why in the world two leaders of the clans she'd had captured for a few moons would be on her land at all.
Peachstar gave Glowstar an indecipherable look before turning to face Foxstar. "We shared a camp together for moons, Foxstar," he said tightly, "and we would appreciate it if you refrained from playing games with us. I believe you may have something of ours, besides our time you wasted?" he prompted. He could feel the tension between Foxstar and Glowstar; he'd only been privy to a few details of their relationship, and had a feeling that nobody was going to escape this meeting with unscathed pride. Perhaps it would be best for him to 'sit down and shut up', as his mother had told him so many times.
"Not sure what you mean, Peachstar. Your two clans already have their cats freed. Unless you want your nests in the makeshift camp, there is nothing left for you here." Foxstar allowed a smile to spread slowly across her lips, her intentions quite clear. They'd left their kits when they were freed, so in Foxstar's mind, they'd relinquished them to her. Not that his was their intention, of course, but she was using it as an excuse, nonetheless. She'd worked hard to keep the two clans in line, she should at least get some reward out of it, more than one life each from Deal and Burningstar.
"We want our kits back Foxstar. I think it's humiliating enough that our clans will be branded for moons as the clans that got imprisoned and couldn't get out without any help. There's no need to further the damage by making us ask for them back," Glowstar said firmly refusing to even meet her eyes, the lack of any emotion in her breath was enough to signal that she was unlikely to ask the question again. But at the same time there was few she could do at the moment to really force Foxstar to hand them over. But really didn't they have enough kits? DayClan only had six which... In truth was normal, it was typically advised that cats shouldn't have kits during leafbare, but still, two of them were her grand children and she already allowed Foxstar to keep her actual kits at her camp.
"No." The single word pierced the air sharply, the Priestess unwavering in her choice even as she looked between the two cats. SunClan had enough kits, certainly, more than double that of DayClan's, but even so, she had decided to keep them, and there was nothing either could offer to sway her in her decision. What could two clans who hadn't even been given the chance to prepare for leafbare, offer her in turn for the lives of future warriors? "As I said, you left with your cats when WinterClan and the Regime came to save you. The rest you have forfeited to SunClan." It was dangerous, and she knew it, to be keeping Glowstar's grandkits, though perhaps she'd let it go, considering no harm would come to them. Physical harm, anyway. Brainwashing them, however, might be considered harming them mentally.
There were rare times where she wondered what it would have been like to live literally anywhere else far far away from here. Where she didn't have to deal with hostage negotiations, or alliances, or battles. Sure, she'd realize it wasn't fun, but she remembered the times when she was in the league and this wasn't her job. That someone responsible would have to deal with this now she was the responsible one, "Oh great and powerful Foxstar, please take pity on our souls and give us back our kits. We know we aren't worthy, but we really just want to like not deal with this so can you just hand them over cause you legit don't even need or care enough to have them?"
Sure, she could guilt BrookClan and NightClan to help her this one last time cause this was their fault and it wouldn't take that long to have them rush SunClan with combined help from SpringClan and her own. But she just didn't feel like doing that. Of course she probably could have grovelled a bit better, it wasn't like she didn't know how, but she had a whole clan basically hang on her word like it was air, worship her. She doubted any of her actual efforts would have swayed her even a little.

"I don't think you understand what 'no' means, Glowstar." Foxstar commented, raising a single brow ever so slightly. "You're not getting them back. If you're so worried, find some queen to have more of them." Now, this comment alone was rather brash enough, reiterating that she was going to keep kits that weren't rightfully hers. The latter half, even more so, given the time of year, the fact that she'd stolen many of said clans' kits right from under their queens, and that Glowstar couldn't even have any of her own. Even if you took away the horror for her actions, Foxstar was still being incredibly disrespectful to both clans, though clearly, the SunClan Priestess seemed to have no problem with that at all.
Her face burned, and anger tore through her like claws. Why couldn't she just be a sister to her? She could feel every bit of hatred she ever felt to Foxstar roar through her like thunder from the present all the way back to the day in camp where her clan came in and she put her claws her kits throat to force them to submit. Her eyes darkened and although she felt herself fighting against going dark she found it happening regardless. She didn't like that Foxstar had that control of her, to make her mad enough to attack. But truly there were few moments that forced her into such a state. she just happened to be threatning all the right things lately.
Glowstar launched at Foxstar, right for the throat, no hesitation from the torturer who loved to hit away from the vitals to watch her victims die slowly. She was family after all. had to be a little polite.

"You really need to talk to someone about your aggression problems, you know." Foxstar's snide comment permeated the air as she danced to the side, out of Glowstar's way, only able to avoid the attack as she watched the change, having expected it sooner or later. Without missing a beat, the Priestess lunged for the leader's side, her claws grabbing one of her opponent's legs and yanking back towards herself as harshly as she could, hoping to dislocate the limb and make it that much more difficult to fight.
It was only a matter of time before Glowstar nicked herself and used whatever herb DayClan had access to to give herself an advantage. Foxstar's goal was to postpone that as long as possible. She'd only been able to break even with it's influence, and it stood to reason she might have the upper hand, just a bit, if she could prevent the use of the herb. While she could accept losing another life to this if necessary, she would rather avoid that. After all, she didn't really want to die in front of Peachstar.
"I told you we should talk to someone!" Glowstar hissed back.
Feeling her leg being dragged back she fell, but given her legs weakened state she found it to be her saving grace from just how lose her muscles naturally were in her current state. Her claws swung around before she could turn to look what she was aiming at, uncertain if Foxstar was about to pin her down only to watch them collide against Foxstar's face across one eye, but she managed to stop it from the next, luckily she had been at a distance so it only grazed the skin near the eye and across the bridge of her nose and not the actual eye itself. The attack went deep and was only centimeters away from horrible disaster.
"Can you see?" Glowstar asked anxiously, feeling the air knocked out of her. She wasn't certain if she actually hit her friend in the eye and inside was internally terrified she may have blinded her by accident. Sure she did a lot of awful things, but she didn't want to take her sight. She felt her rage leave her as she quickly got up. After all if she really had blinded Foxstar she was almost certain that Foxstar wouldn't stop to get some herbs and would instead tear her to shreds.

She was fine. Well, her vision was at least. Her nose, however, stung from the blow, and she blinked slowly mentally assuring herself for a heartbeat that she hadn't, in fact, been blinded in Glowstar's attack. The Priestess was, however quick to double over, letting out a scream and covering one of her eyes with a paw, blood dripping down from behind it. The injury was to her paw, from a rock on the ground, and not actually from her eye, but internally, the auburn feline hoped that Glowstar wouldn't notice and would continue to fret for just a moment longer. If she was lucky, the DayClan leader would even get close enough in an attempt to check on her.
"OH FERRETS!" Glowstar cursed watching Foxstar freak out and instead of checking up on her she was gone. Glowstar had completely bolted back towards SunClan camp and practically cried out, "Guys Foxstar tripped on a rock and I think I blinded her. I mean. I think she blinded herself!"
She chose her battles and healing her friend in time before blindness hit if that could even work was not a battle she could win. In her head she was already blaming Foxstar. Mad that she had to be. Well her and imprison her clan and force her to come back and get the kits. Why did she have to say no? Why did she have to get on her nerves this much? Now she blinded her, she didn't know how she was going to forgive herself let alone how she'd ever make it up.
