Her chilly amber gaze swept across the camp, watching the cats who were caught up in their every day lives. Warriors, students, mothers, kits, bachelors, bachelorettes, from seraph to snow kitty alike. It was all fascinating to her as she watched their interactions. In particular, her gaze was drawn towards the bachelors. There were not many of those which was fairly typical considering most eligible cats were matched as soon as possible. It was considered strange that a marriage had not been arranged for her and so Wintrystar had made it very clear she was to be married soon and eventually expected her to have kits. Especially as one of the few pureblood cats left in the clan alongside her brother and a select couple of families. It was only natural that pressure to finally start a family would happen, especially now that she had been promoted to Heir. It was both a surprise and an honor and Indigocrown wanted to do both her clan and Wintrystar proud.
However, it would be on her own terms. If she waited any longer they would throw her in with some cat she'd never talked to. She wouldn't know their opinions on politics, other clans, marriage, kits, or family. She wanted her kits to have a decent father at least. She had a few conditions in mind and if she screened the available purebloods then maybe one of them would be sufficient enough. Indigocrown was certainly not in search of love, it was a foolish thing that did not provide a good foundation for a family.
One of them caught her eye as he went about his business. He was certainly an attractive tom with his gray splotched pelt and vivid blue eyes. Pureblood, a few of his jokes had potential, and he was from a good family. Her sights were set, for now at least.
The grizzled tan she-cat got to her paws and moved towards him, head held high and amber eyes neutral but fixed. "You seem to have some time on your paws, Phantommist. Care to join me on a hunt?" That's what all cats did for a first date, right? She'd never been on a date and it wasn't one for love. Perhaps she should have chosen something else? She pushed the thought away and ignored it. Everyone likely knew what was going on, including him if he wasn't too dense. The expectation for her to be married was no secret, after all.
Who cared what the others thought anyways. What the two of them thought was certainly the most important.

Among the newly appointed warriors, Phantommist was one of the most eligible bachelors. Not only was he from a well respected family and pure blooded, but he was handsome and skilled to. He was quickly gaining a reputation amongst his peers for his talent in hunting and sparring, Originally he had been set to marry one of Wintrystar's daughters when they were both of age, but she had since been banished. Most cat would have been sad about her departure, but in truth all this did was open doors for him. His match with her had been arranged by their parents since birth, and the two of them had never been close. Now he was free to choose whom he wanted to be with, to search for love. He knew he wouldn't have long though, for his parents would set up another arranged marriage if he didn't make his own decision quickly enough.
Phantommist had been meeting with several she-cat still searching for a mate, but after his arrangement with Wintrystar's daughter, none of them seemed to live up to his family's high expectations. They were either to tainted or to lowly. To old or to young. Finding both love and and a suitable match nearly impossible. He had just finished up a patrol when he heard the other she-cat's voice. He recognized her immediately as the newly appointed heir. Her appointment had been a surprise to everyone, even more so seeing as in she had yet to secure a mate. One thing was for sure, no one could say that she wasn't worthy of him.
He dipped his head respectfully "It would be an honor, mi lady. Lead the way"

While the she-cat was used to others bowing and dipping their heads to her, having those with the standing of seraph dip their head to her felt strange. The action itself was not strange at all and was truly to be expected. So, she took charge of the situation and headed out of the camp and away from curious eyes. This clan was full of gossips, she swore. Oh well, let them stare and gossip. It would only help her in the long run. Hopefully. If things went as planned.
He was younger than her and that meant easier to control in some ways, not in others. "So, you have been turning quite a few heads around camp. How flattering." She didn't really know what to say and certainly wasn't ready to broach the topic yet. Ice breakers first. Then again, she had been turning some heads herself. Any cat who married her would instant have a status boost, there were no downsides to marrying her. Well, not technically anyways.
She would at least hunt while pulling information out of him. "It's a shame, what happened with your betrothed." Her own mother had chosen not to arrange a marriage for her kits in hopes they would grow up and one day find their true loves. Yuck.

He could fell the hot stares of their clan-mates, as the pair waltzed out of camp side by side. Two eligible cats going out on their own? Two single seraph class cats at that. He could almost feel their jealousy and anger, but instead of shrinking down Phantommist seemed to thrive under all the attention. Straightening up with a sly smile enough to make even cold-hearted winterclan she-cats swoon. If they wanted to stare and gossip he would give them something to talk about.
Even once they were out of camp, Phantommist never seemed to loose his confident demeanor. Walking sure-footed over the stones with ease as he let her be the first to speak up. Of course she wanted to talk about his previous engagement, and he couldn't really blame her for that. If she had brought him all the way out here for what he was thinking, than she had every right to know and ask questions "She got what was coming to her" he replied honestly "We had been arranged to be married before my eyes had even opened, but I was never really overly fond of her. This recent development just proves that my suspicions were correct, that her loyalty was not to me or WinterClan. To be honest, I am grateful that her treachery was revealed before our wedding so that I might find someone worthy of my time and affections" he paused, dropping into a hunter's crouch and aking his way towards a pile of rocks
"What about you? No offense intended, but most she-cats are engaged long before their apprenticeship is over and I find myself rather curious as to why"

She couldn't help but notice the way he showed off to the cats around them. Maybe she had been a little too obvious, but the milk had already been spilled. She didn't really care if he sought the attention of others, in some ways that might make him a good choice because he was used to having the eyes of others on him. Noted.
He was correct that she was way past the age to be married, let alone betrothed. "In some ways I am already married, to my clan, my duty, my family," It was a deflection but it was true. She was a very proud cat and her loyalty first lay to her clan and her honor. "But my mother insisted we wait to marry until we fell in love," She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "It is a ridiculous notion and not one that belongs in Winterclan, if you ask me."
Indigocrown did agree that that traitor got what she deserved and was pleased that Phantommist agreed with the notion. So far, he was an excellent candidate. "I don't care that others marry for love, but I never expected to. Being forced and expected to marry for it has never been appealing for me. I see the kinds of atrocities other cats do for the sake of a passing emotion."

Phantommist leapt into the pile of stones, emerging with mouse that had been trying to wedge itself in the cracks to hide "I believe in love" he replied, laying his catch down at his paws so that they could continue to talk "However, as you said love isn't something that you spend your days waiting on. It is something that must be built stone by stone, through hard work and determination on both sides. Love is a goal to work towards not something you stumble across by chance" the handsome black and white tom smoothed his fur back into place from where the wind had ruffled it
"A relationship needs a certain amount of love and respect to work, but I believe that if a match is well crafted it will all come in time"

Not the answer she would have given, but not a bad one either. She gave a nod of satisfaction and narrowed in on a nearby crow. It sat picking at the base of a tree not too far from them. It almost escaped her as well but she caught it mid takeoff, killing it swiftly. She was a fan of birds herself and pleased with the catch, crows were lucky too. "Well said. I find mutual respect is very important with other cats. I admit I don't really spend much time with others." Not even her own brother. She couldn't remember the last time her and griffonwing had an actual conversation. He had stopped trying to talk to her a long time ago. Indigocrown knew that she was an ice queen but felt it was necessary to protect herself. There were so many more important things for her to be doing than worrying about what others thought about her or trying to be everyone's friend.
Now that she was heir she couldn't just keep to herself all the time, anymore. It was time to branch out and, in some ways, grow up. "It all feels very tedious sometimes, I will admit," She offered up a wry smile. It was a glimmer of a cat that used to be there that easily found humor and knew how to laugh easily.

"Yet now you find your self thrust into the limelight" he chuckled at the irony of it. He himself didn't mind all of the attention, but it hadn't always been that way. When he was younger he had been quite shy, but his mother put and end to that rather quickly. He was a pure-blood WInterClan warrior, and the importance of being proud of his heritage had been pressed upon him from a young age. His mother always spoke of how he and his siblings were meant for greatness. That their family pride rested upon their shoulders. He couldn't afford to be shy or appear weak.
He smiled as she brought down the crow. It wasn't a clean kill, but dealing with birds was always tricky "It might be tedious, but managing your image is a skill. Just like hunting or fighting, it takes time, practice, and dedication to hone your craft" he shrugged, "unfortunately now that you are heir, all eyes will be on you for the foreseeable future. Even a small mistake could cost you greatly. Its like learning how to swim by being thrown into the deep in. You will either sink or swim"

The grizzled tan she-cat gave him a wry smile, "Are you going to tell everyone my kill was unclean now?" It was a joke, even though it was a bad one. "You're right about that. I'm not unused to a limelight as one of the few remaining pureblood families. But I suppose it's a good thing I know how to swim and I'm not afraid of drowning." She hid her catch from potential other predators and began searching for another.
"My mother died because she could not handle the pressure of everyone's eyes on her... I like to think I learned from her mistakes, even if my brother did not." The two were not frequently seen together because they had not talked since their mother's burial. Some didn't even know Griffonwing was her brother, even.
"Are you close to your family?" She asked, scanning the area for prey.
