NightClan territory turned to sand as he trekked on toward the desert, his face turned up to feel the sun warming his whiskers. It was rare that Stormreign saw the sun these days; his clan worked from dusk until dawn, letting the moon shine on their dark coats, and he had nearly forgotten how warm the touch of the sun was upon his blue fur. The world was quieter without his clanmates at his side, but for the moment, he did not mind the peace; Stormreign's mind was settled and it was a lovely day to sit out alone and bask in the rays.
The blue warrior pranced upon a tall rock near the border and settled down on top of it, his paws crossed and head held high. He had offered to take Hakoda to see the falls, but they didn't have a chance to choose a time before their date came to an end. Nonetheless, he had scented SunClan upon the Regime tom's fur, and that was all he needed. Today was the third day Stormreign had slumbered here, awaiting a chance to speak with the other tom again; a patrol must bring Hakoda by sooner or later, and he would be here waiting. It had not occurred to the NightClan cat even once that Hakoda might not be interested.

The first day, he thought he was imagining it.
The faint scent of the tom he had met at the speed dating event floating of the breeze, gone as quickly as it had appeared. Nothing more than wishful thinking on his part he was sure. Only while hunting the second day, there it was again. Stronger, and even closer. He had investigated, but the tom was already gone by the time he had arrived. Having narrowly missed one another, Darksonata had decided to linger near the border in hopes that he would return the following day. As luck would have it, he did.
Darksonata had managed to spot him first, sitting high upon the stone with head raised and paws crossed. He looked... well lets just say that it made the dark-furred tom's face flush. Circling around, he made his way to the back of the stone. Silently moving up the rock until he stood by Stormreign's side \
From his perch, he had a decent view of the other clan's land. It felt invasive, looking into their private space. He liked it. Once, Stormreign would have strutted right across their border to talk, but one of those adventures had made him more sensible and now he stayed his paws. He had explored the tunnels and the surface lands and someday he might brave the deserts, but it would have to wait until his time in NightClan had come to an end.
"Team?"
The voice made him jump, and Stormreign jerked halfway upright as he turned to face the source. It was a familiar voice, but the scare stopped him from processing who it was, and he was half expecting to see one of his clanmates standing behind him. Instead, he was greeted by the familiar speckled face of his date just as his turning back paws slipped and he tumbled off the rock. His back paws kicked against empty air as his front paws grappled with the tip of the stone. "Hey, Hakoda," he laughed, his shoulders straining as he slowly pulled himself back up. "I didn't see you there."

Out of pure instinct, Hakoda whipped around to grab at Stormreign's scruff. Even if the other cat had fallen off the rock, it wasn't high enough to cause any sort of major damage. He felt his teeth make contact, but the blue tom before him had managed to catch himself on the edge of the rock. He helped to hoist Stormregin back up to his side, and before he realized it his eyes were roaming over the other tom's form in search of injuries. His own long coat that had been smoothed down and groomed, now ruffled from standing on end.
The biggest change, was in his eyes. Those usually hard to read and narrowed eyes, filled with concern
It all happened quickly, the surprise to the fall to the recovery, and Stormreign didn't notice he had been caught until he went to pull himself back up and he found it easier than he expected. He scrambled back to safety and leaned his shoulder against Hakoda, letting the tom feel the grateful purr reverberating through his entire body before he pulled away and shook out his fur. They both looked a mess now, Hakoda puffed out and Stormreign dusty, and it had Stormreign laughing again. All that time spent grooming before he came out here for nothing.
"I'm fine," he assured, "the only injury is to my pride. Thank you for catching me." His blue gaze was warm when he met the concern in Hakoda's eyes. He felt a little silly for the fall, but now that he had the tom's full attention on him, it wasn't so bad. "I've been hoping to run into you, Hakoda."

Hakoda hadn't realized how close the the two of them were, until stormreign pulled away to shake out his coat. He had been caught up in the moment, the adrenaline that coursed through his brain over riding everything else. He felt his pelt prickled further under the other's tom's gaze but not from embarrassment or fear. It was the shiver of excitement that had made it's way down his spine
He looked away, even though he was relieved to hear that the other tom was fine but also trying to calm his racing heart. So he had been correct, Stormreign had been out searching for him along the border. Stormreign had invited him to come see the waterfalls, but he wasn't sure that was why he had come until just now "Date two?" he tilted his head to the side slightly, his lips turning up into a shy smile
His face fell as Hakoda looked away, disappointed to lose that bountiful gaze, but he didn't stay down for long. His smile returned in an instant, wide and mischievous at Hakoda's question. It had taken three days for them to find each other, but his tenacity had paid off, and he was going to get his second date after all.
"This date will be a little longer than the last one. I've got all day; we'll see how long you last." Stormreign had been up all night, but that wasn't going to stop him now. His excitement was keeping all exhaustion at bay. "The clan will be asleep, so the waterfalls will be just for us. This way." He turned to lead the way back down the rock and toward the heart of NightClan lands, sure-footed and not looking back once. Hakoda would follow him, certain as the sun rising at the end of the night.
"You didn't have any plans for today, did you?" He glanced sideways at him, anticipating a nod.

Hakoda had never been one much for breaking rules.
He knew he wasn't supposed to be seeing a cat from another clan. He knew he shouldn't be trespassing. Yet in that moment, what mattered most was catching up to his date that was confidently making his way down the rock. Toned muscles sliding under blue fur shimmering in the sunlight. It reminded him of the river, strong, power, and beautiful. He had to take a few larger steps, but he wasn't far behind Stormreign. In a couple of strides finding himself at the tom's side.
Darksonata, shook his head but that was a lie. Stormreign had been his plan from the get-go, ensuring that he had gotten out of any patrols and that his sister was safe and sound back at camp "Just you"
"The falls flow through the center of NightClan territory," he began as they headed into the land. They were taking a route through a strand of conifers, heading toward the top of the lowest falls. "It will be loud when we get close, but they're beautiful. I've been to a lot of places, but I've never seen water quite like this." Flamingstar had always come to him when they met, so he had never seen the river before he joined the clan, and it took his breath away the first time.
He led him on, talking a bit more about the falls, then changed the subject. "I was surprised to see how well you hunted the other day, even with your blindfold on. I know I give good directions," he smiled, "but if I didn't know better, I would think you were used to hunting in the dark. You weren't ever a NightClan cat, were you?"

Darksonata had to admit, the waterfalls were pretty stunning. The way the water cascaded down flawlessly across the rocks, the babbling of the water that was getting louder each time the fall grew steeper. It was much cooled her underneath the towering pines, that shade giving them respite from the glaring sun. The droplets of water, beginning to gather and slowly drip down his long fur from the spray of the falls.
Yet it didn't really compare to what he was really watching, Stormreign himself.
The sudden change in topic, caught him off guard. Being caught staring directly at him before clearing his throat "Tunnels" he was a sunclan cat, but he had been born in and visited often in the Regime. He had a lot of family there, and hunting down in the deep tunnels made it a lot easier to hunt when blind folded
Stormreign enjoyed seeing the falls again, but he saw them nearly every day now. The highest falls were back out of view, but even the water just ahead of them was splendid, and he was strangely proud to show them off to Hakoda. Maybe he had settled into the clan more than he thought he had. He glanced back at him fondly, happy to see the tom was enjoying himself, though his answer caught him off guard.
"Tunnels?" he echoed, his brow furrowing. What kind of tunnels did they have in SunClan? It was possible, but he couldn't imagine it. Why would a clan with such an open territory want to hunt in the dark? There was only one group that liked to be trapped down under the surface.
Oh.
Something had been nagging him about Hadoka, and it wasn't just his skill in the dark; it was his name, a rogue name, and it was his smell, just a bit earthy. A tunneller from the Regime.
"Oh," Stormreign said, flatly. As if his heart wasn't suddenly buried in the pits of his stomach as he realized how stupid he had already been, telling Hakoda on their first date that he used to live in the Regime too.
He looked away, back at the water. "If you're done here, we can move on. There's a perch by the next waterfall where you can see all the way the next few."

Hakoda didn't like it....He didn't like it one bit.
His heart sinking at Stormreign looked away with an almost unreadable expression. Was there something wrong with him being from Regime? He knew that Stormreign had once been apart of the regime to, had something happened? Whatever it was, he couldnt let it spoil this moment. He walked forward and cupsed the other tom's chin in his paw to draw his gaze upwards to look him
The smart thing to do was to give up now. He knew that. There was no way he was going back to the Regime, and hanging around with a tunneler was bound to turn out sourly.
But he really, genuinely, liked Hakoda. He was quiet, mysterious, but Stormreign didn't mind; he liked filling the silence, and he liked the few words he could coax from the other tom. It was too difficult to look into those deep eyes and not want to stay.
"Nothing to worry about," he assured, forcing a smile back to his face. He pulled his chin out of the tom's grasp only to step closer and lean against him, enjoying the warmth. "I was just surprised. How long ago were you in the Regime?"

The fact Stormreign ignored his question, only fueled his own curiosity. So many questions bubbling just below the surface that he wanted to ask of his date.
To him the Regime was a safe space, far away from the insanity that was SunClan. But there was something below the curiosity, a prickled of something else. Anger? He couldn't quite place the strange feelings that were washing over him, but he knew that he wanted to figured out what ever had upset the tom before him so that he could destroy it. For now he took in a deep breath, letting the emotions flow out with the puff of air that followed
Instead decided to answer his question "Kit, but visit family"
He continued to lean into the tom as he contemplated that. It was strange for a kit to leave the Regime and join SunClan, but stranger things had happened to that clan. He heard only the fringe rumors that reached his clan's ears, but they were more than enough to convince Stormreign he did not want to get any closer to their secrets. Stormreign was curious, and he had a taste for danger, but there was a difference between taking risks and becoming involved in a cult.
Hakoda only visited family now. That wasn't so bad.
"Sounds lovely," he replied delicately, stepping away from the tom and shaking out his fur. "Who's your family?"

Why was he pulling away? What had he said wrong? Had he spoke to much? It was more than he usually said.
Darksonata's heart pounded in his chest, watching the other tom's face carefully. No this wasn't his fault, something had clearly happened in Stormreign's past, but it to stop the empty feeling that was left within him without him at his side. Still he couldn't help feel like he was walking along the edge of a an embankment. One wrong move from being pushed over the edge.
"Commmander Shule" he replied honestly, saying the names of his family whom he went to see. With each one, he waiting the almost inevitable explosion. Was this how there second date was going to end? "Uncle Lex and Sean" he paused, trying to figure out what the other tom was searching for. The intense way he was looking at him, as he listed off names. He wanted to stop, but it this was a deal breaker perhaps it would be best to know now. To know before he gave away any more of his heart "Brother Huntleigh, Dusksalyer"
Stormreign did not visibly react to any of the names; at first glance, he might be at ease listening to the list, but as time went on it quickly became apparent he was just shocked into place. His breathing came slow and shallow as the fur on the back of his neck stood on end; for the first time since they met, Stormreign felt afraid.
He nodded once, letting Hakoda stop talking. It was the most he'd ever heard him say at once, but what should be a special moment left him feeling numb. "Hakoda, I really do like you," he told him, unable to meet his eyes now, "but this isn't going to work out." It wasn't like Stormreign to give up so easily, but he was playing too close to the flames this time. He couldn't afford to slip up like this.
"I hope you find what you're looking for. I'll walk you back to the border and make sure you don't get lost."

"No"
Hakoda sat down stubbornly, his tail wrapping around his paws. His fur had started to bristle when his date suddenly decided to end things. He wasn't ready to accept that, not after coming out this far. Not after the risks he had taken to come and see Stormreign once more. He wasn't about to budge until her got more of an explanation than that. The tip of his tail twitching as he stared directly at Stormreign.
Normally he would have backed off and done what the other cat had requested, but this was sudden and unexpected One minute everything had been going well, and the next everything was a mess. He had to resist the urge to just charge the tom and shake some sort of sense into him. He focused on making the fur on his shoulder lay flat "No go. Explain"
"No?" Stormreign echoed. Midstep he turned and looked back at Hakoda. He couldn't just stay here. This was NightClan territory. His clanmates wouldn't wake for a while, but if he sat here long enough, he'd leave his scent behind. He was putting himself in danger by just sitting here, ridiculously protesting, fighting. Fighting for what? Didn't he get it?
Of course, he didn't. He didn't know.
Stormreign sighed, turning back to look at Hakoda. "I have... history with Shule. Let's just say if she knew that you were this close to me," against his better judgment, he walked close, until their noses were nearly touching and he was looking into those beautiful eyes, "and you didn't kill me, she'd be even unhappier than usual." His mouth twisted into a bitter smile at the jab, and it was an ugly look on him. "I'm never going back into those tunnels, Hakoda. This will never work, and I'm genuinely sorry to have wasted your time."

He could just sit here. He would just sit here.
Hakoda wasn't about to budge until he was given an explanation of the strange shift in behavior. Most cats didn't get to see this side of him, for he simply didn't care enough about them to challenge them when he disagreed. It wasn't worth his time or energy to try and change the minds of those to stupid to understand or grasp the situation. He listened, not interrupting the other tom as he spoke.
He sat quietly for a moment, but what came next was a rare sound that few cats got to hear from him. Laughter.
His voice echoed through the trees. Let the NightClan cats come, he didn't care. He found this whole situation all to humorous "That your big worry?" he was nearly grinning from ear to ear. He wasn't particularly close the commander, not did he need her approval for whom he choose to date. It mattered less than what the flea that clung to his pelt might think
"Let her be angry" he replied, leaning forward and giving Stormreign a quick kiss before he could protest
