Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Viperstream stood upon the raised hill, stones being dislodged as he kneaded the ground with his paws. The sky was a mix of blue and cloud white wisps that glided across the sky. He sighed, feeling the tranquility that he hadn't felt for a long time. Now that he was longer in a leadership position, he had more freedom to move about. He thought back to when he first found his quiet spot at the edge of the territory, there wasn't much place for prey to live so many cats didn't bother to come here. He gave his shoulder fur a quick lick, smoothing down the fur before continuing his trek through Spring territory. He passed quickly over leaf litter and grass, the sun warming on his pelt. But with a passing breeze, a familiar scent filled his nose.
Primal Instinct?
He shook his head. That conflict ended long ago with Spring winning. So what was that scent doing back here. Following the smell, he tracked it down and to his surprise, it was from a familiar face.
Bright orange eyes peeked out from a mass of creamy fur. A bit of craze resided in them, but for the most part, Harewhisker's mind was clear. She'd felt surprisingly like herself the past few nights. This was the sole reason she had decided to make the trek to her old home. The ex-SpringClan cat had somehow been able to keep herself away before now, but now she finally felt that it would be safe enough.
Who knew what had changed since she'd left? Those who she had any interest in speaking with might have moved away or gotten sick. Maybe there was another attack on the clan. Or perhaps it was just the same - relaxing and filled with lovely scents.
The sky was peaceful. Being home like this felt wrong now, like her paws were tainting the soil. But the scent that came across her nose was anything but wrong. It was familiar. The voice accompanying it was familiar, too. And so was the face.
"Viperstream!" Harewhisker found so few of her clanmates to be worth her time, but Viperstream had good ideas and thoughtful plans. It was the best you could get from other cats really. "I'd wondered if the clan would be any different, but it appears your eyes are still working."
With that sort of dry humor, of course it's Harewhisker.
With his wariness fading, Viperstream relaxed a bit as he examined the she-cat. For the most part, she looked unharmed but who knew what happened to her while she was away. For her to just be returning to SpringClan left a bad taste in his mouth though since he thought everyone was accounted for while he was away. But it would appear that wasn't true. A lot had happened after the battle with Primal Instinct, he lost track of everything. He felt a sense of guilt for not checking in on his Trusted.
"You smell of Primal Instinct...are you okay?" he asked, concern on his face.
Harewhisker was a little taken aback. The concern written on her features made her pause - usually she would have quipped, coming across as either typical or rude depending on the clanmate. But the gray tom seemed genuine.
"I've been better," she replied, choosing to limit the sarcasm for the moment. Something in her didn't want her to push away one of the only cats that had treated her with any amount of respect. "The smell is disgusting, isn't it. Sorry I've been away."
The large she-cat's legs were tired from travel, and now that she was having a safe conversation, they gave out. She sat down with an audible thump, letting her tail drape over the ground. "What's happened while I've been out of service? You must be Viperstar by now."
The tom let out a chuckle. "Yes, it's pretty foul," he joked as he briefly covered his nose with a paw. "But no, welcome back, Harewhisker. You seem a bit tired." Almost as on cue, the she-cat collapsed. The tom started to move to help her stand back up but, seeing as she wasn't in any pain, stayed where he was. That was a bit reassuring. It was a good thing he met her when he did. From the looks of it, she would not gave made it to camp by herself."
"I'm still figuring that out. I just returned to Spring not too long ago myself. What I do know is that there's new leadership and a new group of Trusted established in our absence. From what interactions I had with them, they seem decent enough." he responded. "What happened to you?"
The corners of her mouths lifted in a shared smile as Viperstream laughed. His slight shift toward her as she went down didn't go unnoticed, but she didn't comment on it. She was just fine. Sorta. But the kindness in helping an old clanmate gave her some relief. The clan at least hadn't turned horrible since she'd gone.
Hearing that Viperstream had also left made Harewhisker perk up her ears. It was incredibly surprising news to her and she wondered if he had gone for the same reason she had. But no, probably not. He was obviously still here and in one piece.
"Decent cats in leadership is a lot to ask for," she said, obvious scorn in her voice. She had disdain for many cats, and just because a cat earned a position didn't make them truly worthy of it. "But you've always known best. If they suit you, I'm taking your word for it."
Next was the question of how to answer the tom. She decided to go for vague for now. "I went to P.I. after the attack but was a bit ... stupid. They took advantage of that, so it took me a while to get back home." A wry smile. "Pardon the absence."
Harewhisker rose to her paws, taking a deep breath to make sure she would be able to support her weight on them. StarClan, they were sore. She attempted to take her steps toward Viperstream to give him a proper nose touch, hoping that he wouldn't comment on the achingly slow movements. "What happened with you anyway? I wouldn't have expected you to ship off when SpringClan was so weak. The clan needed good cats, and you were one of the few."
By the sound of of her voice, she didn't like it but she would have to deal with it. They had no choice but to deal.
"Did they do anything to you?" Viperstream questioned. It was more so for his own sake than a sign of aggression toward Primal Instinct. From what he knew, their conflict was done and over with so there would be no legitimate reason for him or anyone else to confront them. Harewhisker was in one piece and that's all that mattered.
Seeing her struggle to even take steps was painful to watch so he did her a favor and went towards her to touch noses. "That's sort of a long story that's too much to get into, at least while we're out here. Don't worry, I didn't depart until after the battle when everything was said and done." Padding to one side of her, he leaned up against her for support. "Let's get you back to camp and we can exchange stories there, yeah?"
