Since he was young, one thing he wanted to do more than any other was follow in his parents pawprints. They had passed before he was able to form any solid memories of them, but from what he learned from the tom who took him in and chose to raise him alongside his two other children was that his parents were amazing. Now that he was older and had traveled seemingly everywhere in the forest, he had completed that lifelong dream, but had so many more moons left. What was he to do with the time? How was he going to find a new dream?
In the silver-red eyes of the black tom, there was no better place to start than back at the beginning, which led him to the beautiful world of cherry blossoms and bubbling streams. The black tom smiled and lifted his chin to scent the air, barely recognizing most, but tasting a familiar trail on his tongue. His eyes sparked with excitement and longing. Lotus. His brother’s name was actually Riverlotus, but nothing seemed to irritate his little brother more than the nickname. Therefore it stuck.
Stygian wasn’t a complete fool though. He knew, deep down, beneath all the threats to break his legs, his Lotus liked the nickname and wouldn’t let anyone else call him by it, including their sister and their parents.
“Ah, Lotus, Lotus~“ He sing songed, a skip in his step as he trotted after the trail.

Riverlotus dipped his paw into the water gently, scooping out one of the lotus blooms that this particular river was known for. It was after these that he had been named, his family having lived here for many generations. He found the soft babbling of the river and it's cool waters quite soothing, his peaceful retreat from the rest of SpringClan when it got to be to much. He had a lot of expectations placed upon his young shoulders, as his father's heir. He was expected to carry on their family's traditions, to find a suitable mate of his own, and to have many children. Sure he had his sister, but she was a she-cat and unable to take over. Then there was Stygian. Their adopted brother that his parents had taken in and raised along side of them. He would have probably shreded anyone whom said it aloud, but the two of them were extremely close. It was to bad that he hadn't been born into the family. He couldn't inherit.
The black and white tom's ears flickered backwards in annoyance as his brother came skipping over singing his name, as his head rose to meet his gaze "It is Riverlotus now. Don't make me repeat it, or next time I might have to rip out that tongue of yours" but despite his harsh words there was a playful gleam to his eyes
Stygian grinned, bumping his shoulder with his best friend’s. Laughing softly, he glanced down at the water that seemed to sing gently around the lotuses that made it their home, expression going soft. “Did something happen?” Silver-red eyes looked at the other. “This is your place.” He was grateful the other time hadn’t spouted off some comment about how he was unwelcome in their home clan considering how long he’d been gone. He missed his brother dearly. He missed the closeness.

"Perhaps if you had been here instead of off on one of you adventures, you would already know" he replied sharply, turning back to the water, his paw gently weaving through the lotus'. He didn't expand immediately on what he meant, leaving Stygian to guess as to the meaning "You shouldn't make our sister worry so. She has cried for you, prayed for you to return. You should go and find her now, let her know that you are alright. She has already suffered enough at your expense"
He paused, picking up one of the blooms and passing it to Sygian "Here, take her a present. It won't make up for the time you have lost, but perhaps it will help ease her pain. Even slightly" he placed the blossom onto Sygian's paws
Stygian winced, ears drooping at his brother’s sudden lashing, though it wasn’t entirely unexpected. “Mm…” he murmured. “I’m sorry, Riverlotus.” His tone was sad but heartfelt, looking at him with clouded eyes. He looked down at the blossom, his ears drooping all the more at the news of how worried their sister was. His heart dropped into his stomach and his internal voice attacked him fiercely for making both of them worry so.
“Ah… ahah…” He lifted a paw and scratched at the back of his head. “No, not yet… Do you blame me for trying to avoid your mother as long as I can?” Stygian knew what would be coming once he approached Ziyuan and revealed he had returned. There would be unsheathed claws and a lot of blood. He sighed. “I’ll approach her and your father once I’ve talked to sis.”
He tilted his head. “So… now that you’ve released a little… you wanna tell me what happened?”

"You might as well know now, you'll find out eventually" he shrugged his shoulders, looking out into the brush where he knew a certain she-cat was waiting a respectful distance. She would give him some personal space, but ever since the two of them had been introduced he never had any true privacy. She was constantly at his side, and even when he tried to give her the slip she would seemingly appear out of thin air
"Mom has saw it fit to give me a protector....A... she-cat.... at that" he nearly spat the word she-cat, as if it left a bad taste in his mouth
He saw the whole thing as an insult of his abilities and honor. Not only could he protect himself, but they had to choose a she-cat. A member of the weaker sex who was meant to stay gentle and soft, to give birth to the next generation. She-cats were not meant to be fighters, much less be the ones protecting him. He was the tom. He was the protector.
Stygian blinked at the news his brother gave, looking out into the bush where a pair of purple eyes suddenly shone. His eyebrows climbed up his forehead as the charcoal bengal padded towards the pair.
“Ah,” he glanced between the two before dipping his head to her, “hello. My name is Stygian, I’m… Riverlotus’s brother.”
Zidian quirked a brow at him, but stayed silent on the way the black tom stalled over his introduction. “Zidian.” She nodded her head back at him. “Ziyuan’s disciple.”
“Ah… she’s trained you?”
“Since she found me at the side of my dead mother.”

Riverlotus rolled his eyes "She is quite the persistent one"
With Zidian hanging around there wasn't much he could say or do that wouldn't get reported back to their mother. He was sure that their mother would hear of Stygians return before they even reached camp. He hadn't quite managed to piece together how she managed to do so, but she was always faster and smarter than he planned for "So you can safely assume that your return will not remain secret for long"
Zidian's purple eyes rested on Riverlotus's form, expression disapproving, but it quickly melted away to the usual unreadable mask she wore, and Stygian stayed off to the side, feeling oddly like he wasn't meant to be here and witness this exchange.
He cleared his throat with a slight cough hidden behind a paw.
"Ah, right." He hummed. "Zidian," he started, looking at the she-cat with a small smile and a genuine silver gaze, "would you mind terribly if my brother and I had a few moments to ourselves?"
Zidian's eyes narrowed, and the tom quickly forged on. "If only so that he and I can catch up. It's been a long time since I've seen my L- him. Afterwards, you can escort me directly to Madame Ziyuan."
The bengal she-cat slowly tilted her head, assessing the two of them, before she rolled her eyes and turned her back.
"I'm not your nanny. I may be here to protect him, but I'm not here to give you permission to do anything. Do what you like."

Riverlotus was actually quite surprised that she had agreed to the request "Lets go before she changes her mind"
The tom led the way down the river, until the sound of the water would make it difficult for others to over hear their conversation. Zidian wouldn't be to far behind, but at least they had some privacy "Mother has decided on a match for our sister..." he gave a small pause before meeting Stygians gaze "She is afraid, but nothing I say has brought her any comfort"
Stygian frowned, gaze barely focused on the path ahead as his silver eyes clouded in thought. “Why a match now?” It was the one question he couldn’t seem to find any answers to, even when he tried to slip into the mindset of Madame Ziyuan. He shook his head, sadness growing in him at the thought of his sister. “Who is it with?” Not the peacock, he thought to himself with dread.

"I suppose she is of age, I have been set up with different girls for moons now. So it really shouldn't be that much of a surprise. You already know who mother wants her to be with. Its been in the plans since we were children. This move just made it official now that they are being promoted to warrior soon" The tip of his tail flickered, "She isn't happy about it, but you know our sister. She will always do what our parents have asked of her"
Stygian frowned and turned his head down. In a way, despite the heartache he underwent every time Madame Ziyuan discounted him and pushed him from the guardian boundary of her family, reminding him near constantly that no matter how long he lived with them and the care that he was given under their charge, he was never going to be part of their world and seen as one of their own, he was grateful he was seen as nothing more than a charity case picked up because her mate was incapable of leaving him behind to die in the strange wilderness. It meant he wouldn't be matched up with suitors against his will the way his brother and sister were.
The black tom glanced at his brother, "I doubt I'll be able to provide any more comfort to her than you have."
