Let the sibling bonding commence! unsheathes sword
Sakurapaw loved her family more than anyone else in this world and the next. That didn’t mean she couldn’t be incessantly bothered by them on occasion. In the past, she looked at her new little siblings with a mix of excitement and trepidation. According to the other apprentices and young warriors her age, having little siblings could be a blessing or a curse in disguise. Now, however, after trauma after trauma, living temporarily on the mountain path in their hastily erected camp overlooking their flooded homeland, she found it a blessing, and was grateful every day that all of her siblings were able to make it out okay.
All of that was to say, she wasn’t very good when it came to interacting with other kits. As Goldengriffon, Dancingdragon, and she became closer friends with her promotion, that meant seeing their adorable children more often in private settings. They were little rascals but she cared for all of them and saw them, in a way, as her nieces and nephews, despite having zero relation.
But there was one who seemed to particularly enjoy taunting her more than the others.
“Hey, little rebel,” she padded up and booped Sourkit on the head, “how’s it hangin’?”

Sourkit had been grumpily licking the bumps from the bug bites that covered his pelt. Despite his efforts, no one seemed to be able to help soothe their itchiness to his satisfaction. Which meant a lot of sleepless nights, and the already grumpy natured kit being even more illtempered than usually. Physically lashing out at anyone whom dared to even brush up against him, and yelling at those whose eyes lingered to long on him. He had bit Jetstar on the tail demanding that she did something about it to no avail. Kept his father and siblings awake all night complaining loudly into the night. He had even demanded that Sakurapaw treat them. Yet here they still remained
"Bad....Fix it!" he demanded, motioning down at his swollen skin that had raised red welts from his scratching on them. Some of the bug bites had started to get infection from his constant scratching, but the medicine cat probably had more pressing concerns than bug bites with the flood going on. But right now, nothing else matter to the very much single minded tom.
Sakurapaw sighed. “Sourkit, I told you not to scratch at them, you’ll make them worse. You need to come to me when they start itching so I can apply another salve. The more you itch them, the more they’ll itch, and if you do it too much, they’ll start to bleed.” The medicine cat leveled him with a hard stare. “Come on, let’s get you patched up.” She shook her head and padded over to her makeshift herb store, the only dry place the clan could find in the storm to shelter her supplies.
“Other than the situation you find yourself in,” she glanced at him, “how are you?”

"I itch, I scratch" he replied gruffly, slowly rising to his paws to follow after Sakurapaw.
At the very least the salve would give him some relief for the time being, even if he was mad at the apprentice for not fixing the problem yet "You make itch stop, I no scratch" he explained as if it was she that wasn't understanding the situation instead of the other way around. Cats liked to use to many complicated words when just a few simple ones would get the message across. He wasn't stupid, in fact he was probably to smart for his own good. An odd sort of genius that one had to really be around to really appreciate.
"Wet.Cold.Tired.Ow." he replied, clearly unhappy with this whole situation of being forced out of his home into this makeshift camp
"Adult think I baby. I no baby" he replied with a huff "I strong. I help"
Sakurapaw deadpan stared off into the distance, as if hoping some feline was out there in her view who’d be willing to take the tyke off of her client list and send him into the night without a need in the world. “Is there a reason you’re speaking in garbled sentences or is that for your amusement?”
The she-cat prepared the salve, applying it anywhere and everywhere the bites existed, occasionally snapping at the kit to ‘hold still!’ if he wriggled too much.
“That should make you feel a little better. I don’t have any way to magically make them go away. They need to heal with time. Which means…” she smiled sweetly. “If you don’t want to be bothered by me until the end of your life, you’ll listen and not scratch.” She rubbed the fur atop his head. “Okay, rascal?”

"Not ok" he retorted grumpily
He was already struggling to resist the urge to scratch, his back foot sneaking upwards whenever the medicine cat apprentice wasn't looking "You bad healer" he pointed out, clearly not happy with the fact that she couldn't make them just go away "Itchy" he complained
The white she-cat sighed and gazed at the kitten with an unreadable expression, shaking her head. "That's all I can do for you, Sourkit. Whatever else happens is up to you." Like her father had once told her in one of his most dejected moments: you can't make decisions for others, only yourself. She offered him what advice and comfort she could; whether or not his bites got worse all depended on whether he wanted to show her the brave face she was sure lived somewhere within him, ready to come out when he was prepared to take on life as an apprentice someday rather than remain as a sniveling kitten, or if he would continue to snipe.

Sourkit huffed, excuses. That was all that he was hearing. The little kit wasn't happy that the medicine cat wasn't doing a whole lot to help ease the painful bites. He curled up in his nest, trying to get settled down but couldn't lay down because of his body being so itchy.
With her other siblings off doing their own adventure, Sweetkit only happened upon Sourkit in his nest by accident, having retreated to her own lonesome corner. She blinked and then smiled a bit, tilting her head and hopping over to him. “Sourkit!” She greeted, nudging him with her paw. “Let’s play!”
