Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. If one had ever told her she would be looking down at her own biological kittens, she would have laughed right in their face. She had never been interested in what came before having kittens. If she was ever to become a mother, it would have been through a surrogate couple, one that she'd already picked out. She had told Cassidy since they were young that he and her mate would parent her kittens, if her potential mate ever wanted kittens. She had never been sold on the idea of being a mother, anyways. Yet, here she was, exhaustedly looking over a litter of kittens.
If Glowstar ever spoke to her again, she'd have to let her kow that this was her fault.
She let out a sigh, before running her tail across the spines of her kittens. There were five of them, the five newest members of BrookClan. "My jack through joker," she murmured quietly. "Krespen, Minnette, Montagne, Teminine and Serapena," she continued, before her ears pricked as a cat entered her den. She knew that as soon as Cynder had told the group that her kitting was over, cats would slowly start filing in to meet them.
It was Cassidy who entered the den first, a vaguely confused expresion on his face. He recalled the deal he'd made with her to father her children, should she want any - apparently, she hadn't recalled it quite too well. Nevertheless, the tsar seemed to...well, like them well enough, he realised, as he watched her run her tail across her kits' soft pelts. "Well, this is an unexpected turn of events," he quipped rather lamely. "...They're surprisingly adorable, though. Congratulations. I hear Elisio is still processing the news."
From Kerrigan's side, the small ginger she-kit mewled softly as she felt her mother's tail caress her spine. Yes, she thought to herself, Minnette - that was her name, and soon enough, everyone else would know all about it.
When the news had broken about Tsar Kerrigan expecting kits Everette had been shocked. The pitch black boyar would have even bet his life on the fact that the clan as a whole had echoed the same emotion. If adopting outsider kittens had been a shock to the clan, this was something earth-shattering. When Cynder had brought the news that the Tsar had successfully kitted Everette had been sitting just a dozen or so tail lengths away from the den. He'd watched Cassidy enter the den first, while others seemed to be waiting. The Boyar's ears flicked and his tail swayed at his side. He wasn't overly eager to enter the den like some appeared to be, and he'd figured he'd let those cat's go first. He wasn't fond of crowded places, to begin with.
The tiny black ball of fur that was nestled against her mother wriggled with life. Her own mewl seemed to seamlessly blend in with her sisters. The Joker. Serapena.
"For you and me both," she muttered as she looked down at them. They were a mistake, a moment of weakness. Yet, already, she was fond of the things that she had felt grow within her. She was unsure if she was capable of a mother's love; hell, she was unsure if she was capable of any love. But there was a drive in her to protect the little creatures that nestled at her stomach. It was even stronger than the desire to protect the little litter of strays she had adopted. These were hers, kittens with her flesh and blood that weren't meant to exist, yet here they were. "Aren't you the one that is supposed to keep me from eating a pawful of catnip and poppy and making decisions I regret because I'm sad?" As she asked this, her eyes moved from the kittens to her cousin, whom she squinted at. "I should take this as a sign to fire you." Her tone was unclear if she was joking or not. Probably because she didn't know.
"Surprisingly adorable? They are my kittens, and we both know I'm the hottest cat in the Monarchy," she meowed to him, letting out a weak chuckle. "I'm still processing the news too, in all fairness. I'm surprised he wasn't the first one here. You're slacking on the right paw man job, and he's slacking on the dad job. It's a wonder how I've made it in this life so long with you two to advise me."
"This is awfully messed up, isn't it?" meowed the grey cat who had made the announcement. "If you asked me, they should all be named Cynder, but would bet my life savings that if I even suggested that right now Kerr would sell me to SunCult." She looked over to Everette with a sigh. "Who woulda guessed that this gay ass would have kittens?" Her tail swept across the ground as a shiver ran up her spine.
Teminine felt her siblings move against her, but the ace did nothing. After all, she was still adjusting, adjusting to the feeling of wind in her lungs, the feelings of air on her furs. It was an odd feeling, this being alive thing. She was unsure if she liked it.
Montagne pressed against Teminine, feeling around a bit. The big orange fluff ball, the king trying to press in closer to those around him. Just to be closer to them, making a soft noise that sounded like content as he sprawled beside Teminine and Serapena
Everette choked out a laugh at Cynder's remarks he should be used to her by now, but really there was no getting used to the grey she-cat. His whiskers twitched at a slow pulse as he regained his composure before he quirked a brow. Though what she said was definitely true. Everyone was thinking it, though their words probably weren't as blunt as Cynder's. "The day you have kittens is the day the world ends, I swear" he replied, his head already pounding at the mere idea of little Cynder's running around.
"Oh, I already have, lamb chops. Unfortunately enough, the world didn't spontaneously catch on fire. Your loser brother and his boyfriend took them from me because I would rather throw myself off of the roof of the abaondoned two leg den after praying to Tiveronah that she crack my spine upon impact than raise a litter of my own. The litter didn't make it, though. What a shame." She said this so non-challantly that one could probably question the sanity of the cat. This probably wasn't the only reason other's could question her sanity, though. Cynder was a mess. She let out a laugh and shrugged. "Guess it's Kerr's job to produce some hell spawn." Her whiskers twitched. "Do we want to take bets on just how bad of a parent she'll be? Probably just as bad as you, hmm?"
"Hmmm, what a shame" he hummed softly as he listened to Cynder appearing unphased by it. His tone almost echoing hers. At her latter word's Everette let out a bark of laughter. The toms pale eyes seemed to spark at the mention of a bet."You're on. What shall we be betting? he snickered his ears flicking and his brow arching. At the last part, he snorted. It wasn't something that crossed his mind really. He'd never really planned on having any, which was probably more than enough to answer Cynder's question. He gave a shallow shrug of his shoulders his voice taking on a somewhat bored yet thoughtful tone as he spoke, "Who knows."
Her eyes lit up at his acceptance of her bet. "Hmm," she meowed with a chuckle, thinking about what was worth his bet. "Ah, I got it!" she meowed after a moment, mischief in her eyes. "If she's an awful parent, you have to occupy me for an entire 24 hours, no breaks." She let out a purr. All nighters were something that she did often, but she could imagine that that was exactly the oppsosite of what any man would want to do with her. "If she's a good parent, you'll get a 'Go Away Cynder' token which can be redeemed once and I'll leave you alone for 24 hours straight." That, however, would probably encourage him to take it. Very few cats were offered such an honor. 24 Cynder-Free hours. "If you accept these conditions, we can seal the deal by going in there and harassing her."

"Hey, I'm here now, aren't I?" Cassidy pouted, with an affectionate mock-hurt tone. "Besides, you can't fire me. I'm family, and as Cousin Larry always said before we fired him, you can't fire family." He frowned as he felt a rising feeling of dread begin to stir inside him as a previously-faint rumbling of pawsteps outside of the den rapidly began to get closer and closer. "...Do you hear something?"
It was at that moment that Elisio made his dramatic appearance, bounding into the den without so much as a hello, how are you? to the cats outside. If the den had a proper, human door, it would have been flung open with which the sheer force that Kerrigan's father entered the room. "Kerrigan, are you okay?!" he asked, looking fairly addled. "And are the kits okay? Is this them?!"
"No, she's just nursing a bunch of stranger's kits," Cassidy muttered, stepping backwards to let Elisio see his daughter properly. "Hello to you to, by the way."
'i think you proved the point that I can, in fact, fire you with that little anecdote, but who am I," the Tsar meowed with a smirk, before she, too, was taken over by a sense of dread. By the strength and ferocity of the pawsteps heading this way, there was only one cat that that it could be: her father. Bracing herself, Kerrigan Harlow let out a sigh.
When Cassidy was the first one to respond to Elisio, the orange cat let out a snicker. "Good point," she meowed to her cousin and best friend, before looking sheepishly over at her father. "Hi, Dad. It's a surprise to see you here," she meowed lamely. "How's the weather outside?" she tried, as if to divert some attention from the ... situation. After a moment of looking at the expression on his face, she figured that that probably wouldn't work.
"I'm tired. This body? Not made for labor. But yes, this is them. Meet your grandkittens, Montagne, Minnette, Serapina, Teminine and Krespen," she meowed, brushing each of them gently upon saying their name.
