Southpaw’s shoulder was screaming for her to stop, but what mattered right now was getting away from the mean cat who seemed so intent on making her miserable. There was a distinctive limp to the way she ran, probably causing more damage than what the older she-cat had done as she pushed through the pain of it. What she hadn’t expected was the commander to follow after her into the tunnels “Just leave me alone ugly face. Your not my mentor” she screamed, before ducking into the den that her mother and father usually stayed, but it was cold and empty “Mom? Dad?”
She came to a stop, here sides already heaving from the short distance run back to the den as she felt the hit breath of the cat behind her

Shule sat down at the entrance to the den the moment Southpaw stopped running, blocking the she-cat from exiting. "They have their own jobs to do. They don't get to sit and lounge around in their nests the whole day, you know."

Southpaw puffed out her her cheeks defiantly, but she there was no escaping now. The den was an enclosed space, and Shule was blocking the only exit. There was also no help coming from her parents either who seemed to be out hunting or something. She sat down tipping her head up and meeting the commander’s gaze “That is fine, I’ll just wait for them here. Have fun on your run keep whatever you are doing”

"No, we're taking you to the Guiders. Since you decided to run on it, you've probably put yourself out of commission for the next day or two at least. Havilah can handle taking the rest of the Cadets on their run." Speaking of, the Commander turned her head slightly to the cats behind her. "Run em until they're sick, then run em some more. After they're done, they can break for something to eat. I'll deal with Southpaw."

Something about the way commander Shule said that she would deal with her made her uneasy, but there wasn’t really much that she could do about it as the other cadets were forced to go on without her. Leaving Southpaw alone with the commander “I wouldn’t have to run if you’re weren’t so mean” she replied, still refusing to acknowledge that she had done anything wrong in the slightest “I’ll go see them when mom and dad get back” she pouted, limping over to her mother’s nest. She didn’t like medicine cats, priests, guiders, whatever you wanted to call them. They always smelled like icky herbs and even worse than that they would make you eat them

"You chose to run, that's on you. As for the Guiders, you're going now. The longer you wait, the more you risk injuring yourself." Shule had grabbed Southpaw's scruff before the she-cat had a chance to run, and had no problems in clamping down hard enough to ensure the other she-cat couldn't escape. Evidently, she didn't particularly care how Southpaw reacted, but she was getting dragged along no matter what.

Southpaw hadn’t be carried by her scruff since she had opened her eyes, not even when her parents go angry with her. So the fact that she now found herself dangling off the ground was just plain embarrassing “Let me down” she struggled In the she-cat’s jaws, but the commander’s grip was far to strong. Eventually she had to give in, though now she was quietly sobbing “I just want to go home…” SunClan wasn’t perfect but it was all that she knew. It’s where her friends were, and her older siblings. Coming to the regime had been fun at first, but she was clearly home sick. She missed the feeling of the sun in her fur, the monotony of the morning and evening prayers, getting to train with whom she choose. There she was the sun go’s little sister, but here… well here she was a nobody that didn’t fit in. None of the other cadets wanted anything to do with her, and the adults all looked at her like she had two heads.

Sierra was talking with Apollo when the pair arrived. Of course, Shule sent the tom on his way to join the rest of the Scouts, and instead focused on ensuring South couldn't escape while Apollo looked him over. "While I was disciplining her for insubordination, she struggled and messed up her leg or shoulder. Then she decided to run on it." Shule explained simply.
Apollo glanced between his aunt and cousin. "She's Dusky's, right?" He asked, and watched for Shule's confirming nod. "Well, I have to say, you're obviously and Eerie, Cadet. Don't take that as a compliment, it isn't one. Let's get that leg looked at, unless you'd rather sprint around again?"

By the time they arrived, she had dried her tears. Cursing herself for letting herself cry in the first place, but there was no hiding the red and swolleness of her eyes. Southpaw shot a flare up at Shule as she was set down between the commander’s paws so that she couldn’t flee. Shule behind her was like a mountain of muscle, and with the guider up in front of her there was no getting past. Southpaw huffed “There is nothing wrong with being an Eerie” she corrected him, having no shame in her family name or heritage. In her mind a lot of great cats had come from the Eerie line, clearly she hadn’t learned her lesson, but was far to tired to continue fighting for much longer. That didn’t mean she was about to roll over and just them say and do whatever they wanted to her though. She held still while her shoulder was examined, except for flinching away when it hurt

"I've never met an Eerie, born in or married in," Apollo glanced at Shule pointedly, "Who, in some way, didn't cause everyone around them trouble. You're no exception." Was it a dig st Shule? A bit, but as her beloved nephew, he got away with it. "I'm going to go grab some herbs."
Shule could have lett by now, but she didn't, instead choosing yobremain her with Southpaw. "I'm going to remind you again. This isn't SunClan, and how you were allowed to behave there doesn't apply here. It doesn't matter what Dusky or Unseenlights taught you, because none of it matters. While you're in the Regime, you follow the regiment's rules."

“You say that like it’s a bad thing” Southpaw huffed, but didn’t move from her spot at the guider went off to fetch what was needed
“only sheep follow commands” she replied smoothly, having to shift her weight over to the other side as her shoulder throbbed “and sheep get lead to slaughter” it was a truth, the only one she really knew. Yet even though her words were bold, her body language told another story. The way her ears had fallen back, her head hanging low “I don’t belong here. No one likes me, and nothing here makes any sense. Your supposed to take pride in how you look, but you shove me into the dirt. Your supposed to be able to think for yourself and be independent, yet you call it insubordination” her voice practically dripped with sadness, and confusion. She didn’t understand this strange world she had been thrust into, the rules, expectations… “Everything here is so backwards” Honeystorm

Guider Superior Valerian had heard the shouting, the screaming, and whatever else was going on. Naturally, the black tom followed the sounds and bumped into Sienna in search of a Guider. He had her bring him to where the group stood and arrived just in time for Shule to announce they were going to chase after the cadet. He sighed. She would certainly be in his den very soon and he was ask for her to be sent to him specifically. "Would you send her to me when you're done? A dead scout will do you no good." Valerian said in a smooth way to Commander Shule, dipping his head with respect. There was no disrespect or malice in the toms words. The commander would do as the commander would do. He did not run after the commander or the cadets and instead retired back to his den to prepare it for a visitor.
Sunshine Eerie stared on with horror. He had never seen a mere cadet disrespect the commander in any such way and he shook with fear for her. For himself. He glanced at his sister nervously, wondering what she thought about the whole thing. He was a fast runner but his sister was faster. He did not want to catch the other cadet and followed behind as ordered. You always did as you were ordered if you were smart.

Shule barely had time to respond to the tom before everything went off, and now they were back by the rest of the healers, but she quietly told Apollo to bring his herbs to the Superior so that Southpaw could be treated when she got there. She turned her head to Southpaw. "Perhaps in your world that's true, but the Regime is an entirely different beast, and your parents did you a disservice by not telling you how things work around here, that, or you listen to them about as well as you listen to me. In the Regime, you listen to an order, full stop. I don't care if you don't like it, or think it's backwards, or that wasn't what you were taught. This group has survived because the cats here know how to pick their battles. Do what you want in your free time, act how you want, think how you want, but when you're in training or on the job, when a Superior is giving you a direct order, you listen. That is how it works here. If you have a problem with an order you were given, you bring it up to me afterward. The only exception is if someone tells you to do something clearly wrong, like killing a kit, or stealing. These rules aren't optional, and you don't have to agree, but how it works here is if you don't do your job, you don't get fed. We don't give handouts to those who refuse to work. We're not a clan with seemingly unlimited resources, and I don't pretend we are. If you become a Superior, or a Commander, then you can decide how the rules work, but until then, you obey orders from the other Scouts, Superior Havilah, and myself. Stop applying lessons that were taught to you in SunClan to a culture that operates differently. It seems backwards because you have this idea what should be, and insist that yours is right."

"See there you go again" Southpaw replied pouting "Forget what you know. This isn't SunClan. What you know doesn't apply here"
She let out a little groan, just barely managing to resist rolling her eyes "I KNOW this isn't SunClan, but do you even hear the words that you are saying?!?1?! How insane they sound?" she wiggled in the commander's grasp "I don't know you, I don't know your commanders and.... su..whatever they are called. I just stinking met you, and all you have done is yell at me, slam me to the ground, and get my pelt dirty. What about that would make me want to follow you?!?!?! IF I did who would really be the fool?!?"she shifted uncomfortably, unable to even look up at the commander a she was sandwiched between the two cats "Who would be mouse-brained enough to listen to orders from some cat they don't know, when the orders don't even make any sense? You kept screaming to get in line, but there were NO LINES in that den, instead of getting my shoulder checked maybe you should get your eyes checked"
Southpaw was only getting more and more upset the more she talked "I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU WANT FROM ME"

"When you join my group, you listen to my orders. That is how clans and groups work, Southpaw. You listen to those above you. You don't get to decide to disobey because you don't like it. And unlike most places, we don't tolerate disobedience here. You keep saying you don't understand, you don't know what I want from you, but every time I say anything, all you've done is scream and cry and refuse to listen. That kind of behavior is dangerous here, and will not be tolerated. The expectation for you here is obedience, plain and simple, since you don't seem to grasp it. You don't need to like it, to understand it, or to want to do it. But so long as you live here, you will do it, and that is final. So long as you refuse, your time here will be miserable. Call it insane all you like, that will not change one thing, and your parents won't get you out of punishments for disobedience." Shule was done with this attempt at explanation. Southpaw just wanted to cry and and on and on about how she didn't understand, and how this was stupid, how everyone was mouse brained, or what have you. She didn't like being harsh, especially with family, but it seemed necessary here.

Shule's explanation just made her want to scream all the much more, but the events of the day had worn the apprentice out. Instead what came next was almost no more than a whisper. One final protest... "You don't understand me at all...."
Post by Honeystorm on Aug 21, 2021 23:28:53 GMT -5
"I'm not trying to understand you." Shule replied bluntly. "Now, you need to see Valerian and Apollo."
Speaking of the pair, when Shule brought Southpaw to the den where the Superior was, Apollo was already there with some herbs, giving the tom a rundown of Southpaw's injury as far as he'd noted it. "She'll survive the injury. Will her attitude survive? That remains to be seen." The mostly white Guider commented, not having realized Shule and Southpaw had joined them quite yet. uniqcrim
Southpaw frowned, looking at the two other cats and before she could even think the words came tumbling out of her mouth "I don't have an attitude, I just have a personality that you can't handle" she said matter of factly before sitting down, and then realizing that probably wasn't the right thing to say with Commander Shule still standing behind her....
