He glanced up to the tree. It wasn't all too different from climbing up other things and Hywel always enjoyed a nice perch. With a leap, his claws caught into the bark, and step by step, he found himself clawing his way up to the lowest branch, making sure it was steady enough for his weight before settling onto it. "You coming up?" he grinned, before glancing up to the other branches, already mapping a path upwards for himself.

Uta did pause to ensure he could find his target and gauge the right height that was just high enough but not too high, then again he had no real reason to keep safety in mind it was just a courtesy of him to keep it in mind. / You coming up? / Was he trying to be cute with him? Yeah no, courtesy could out the door for this prey-stealer flea, it's not he liked him or anything. Uta's blank poker-face in response the tom was perfectly fitting as he considered the lack of need for extra thought into anything that did not warrant a threat to him or his own safety. He kept up with the other tom still gauging a good stopping point. This particular prey liked to make it's nest rather high up, but they only needed to get about half way for this plan. After a good two-story-high climb or just under it, they were they were in a prime spot and Uta walked out on a branch, rabbit still in tow and finally setting it down as Uta seemed to look between two points, somewhere higher in the tree and directly beneath them where there was clearing around the base of the tree.
"Hmm, this should do." was all the marbled tom said.

"So what's the plan?" he hummed, eyes gleaming brightly at the thought of an adventure. The trees were fun, Hywel had decided. Having lived so long in a land of plains and mountains rather than lush forests and cities, he had found himself with a love for climbing, something he had been deprived of for most of his younger years.
There were plenty of things they could be catching up here; he assumed crows or magpies, some type of bird most likely. Glancing up, he could see the branches become more narrow, floating in the breeze. As a larger cat, he felt as if he was risking a fall being up this high, but perhaps that was the excitement of it all. The rush of adrenaline that came from tempting death.
Post by Shadowbladeღ on Sept 8, 2021 0:59:00 GMT -5
/So what's the plan?/ Still looking down at the clearing on the ground, Uta picked up the rabbit and simply tossed it off the branch landing with a muffled thump but otherwise not even hitting a branch for a slightest rattle of leaves or the like. Still without answering him, Uta looked up to see if it noticed... The long few second silence was enough to tell him what he needed to know, and what he needed to do.
"Hywel," he smiled turning to him, "Could you fall for someone like me?" seemingly off-topic until the tom while still smiling and making eye contact, took a small scoot back towards the trunk of the tree and kicked the branch in-between them hard - enough for a >c r a c k< to ring through the forest.
(lol did you catch that less-than-two-story-fall foreshadowing or was a good ol' fall trick just too obvious? xD feel free to go through with it or not, it can work either way just had to throw in that moi-der attempt.)

"Keep going, don't leave me waiting in suspense," Hywel's whiskers twitched as he leaped upwards, following the marbled tom quickly as they ascended the tree, though Hywel's wary glance did look down once in a while. He was a larger cat, after all, and one had to be careful going up in case a branch broke. He seemed blissfully unaware to any bad intentions Uta had.
Post by Shadowbladeღ on Sept 12, 2021 23:24:33 GMT -5
"Hmmm," he stared disapointedly at the branch and still-alive-and-unhurt Hywel, "Sometimes it takes a secon-" the shattered >c r a c k< of the weakened branch finally gave way and interrupted the tom who braced himself and dug his claws into the wood to keep from being a victim of his own impromptu poor planning. The branch crashed down until it finally landed in the clearing near the rabbit, but not quite covering it from their view due to it's trajectory being tilted by hitting another branch on the way down. Uta remained quiet as he looked down at it and then at the single flap of a wing above he immediately looked up with alert ears. The silhouette of hawk flapping it's wings and diving down went by. Success, they got it's interest.
"To the top it is - climb as high as you feel comfortable" the marbled tom forgot about his previous words spoken, but he might just still have a chance at using him if things didn't go 100% to plan. The branches thinned out enough up here to make him consider Hywel should stay back - while adding a another a warm body to the kill pile without getting his paw dirty would be nice, a poorly timed fall could just alert the hawk to come back up too soon and ruin the plan altogether. "Perhaps keep an eye on the hawk - distract it if it comes up." he advised Hywel, gotta delegate while he could, otherwise what was the point of bringing him, murder attempts aside.

Well Hywel certainly was lucky, because he had just gotten off the broken branch when it went toppling down below. His wide-eyed gaze looked down to the ground, before turning back to Uta with a gleam. "Well I guess I was pretty lucky with that one huh?" he spoke, unaware of the disappointment in Uta's eyes. He was about to say something else when a flutter of wings made him look up in surprise.
A hawk? So that was what they were trying to catch. He watched it with an awed expression for a brief moment, before turning to Uta once more. "Distract it?" he spoke, "what do you do to distract a hawk anyway?"
Post by Shadowbladeღ on Sept 14, 2021 16:58:40 GMT -5
"Ah, I dunno, use your body?" he half-thought out that reply while waving a paw to shush and dismiss him. While he probably meant 'use your brain' the innocent words instead came out sounding more like he was telling him to seduce the bird. However Uta was too focused on carefully and quietly climbing up the thinning branches to enjoy the humor in his own words. The soft chirping of multiple fledglings was too hard to ignore and really set him in the predatory killing mood. He reached the branch the nest was on, it already swayed with the wind as is so his added weight was going to make this a tricky one... Closer, just a bit closer now...

Hywel eyed the hawk warily as it circled, still seemingly unaware of the other cat quickly ascending the stairwell of branches that led to the nest. "Better hurry up," Hywel murmured, as the hawk seemed to circle once more. He was all too aware that any moment, the creature could look down, and while he was sure they could handle it on the ground, upon the trees, there was the risk of falling to one's death, after all. Perhaps cats all landed on their paws but frankly, he didn't trust that little saying as much as he thought.
Suddenly, the hawk seemed to still, and Hywel's fur stood on its end. "Uta, hurry up!" he shouted in warning.
Post by Shadowbladeღ on Sept 20, 2021 20:23:54 GMT -5
Moving a bit faster, Uta slinked along the branch and when reach the nest swatted a pawful of claws to snatch the closest fledgling, pull them in to him and just as he put his jaws around it's neck - S w o o s h - A second, not-so-happy-hawk-parent slowly descended to the edge of the nest with eyes carrying a look that could kill as the two entered a staredown. Well wasn't this a fun scenario? The most common type of hawks were unfortunately great co-parents and defended their nests with an annoyingly vicious scorn. Course not many of any species did take kindly to a predator trying to make dinner out of their young.
The fledgling still thrashing around in his maw as he stared back at it's larger, adult version gave him an advantage though. Without breaking eye contact he bit down hard on the fragile bird. A quiet squawk from it's young sent the parental bird at him. Uta tossed the bird forward and a little to the side letting it fall distracting the hawk - the nest was too large to easily knock down but all this added weight could be just what he needed. There was a branch under him if this goes wrong but it counted on him making it. And so the marble tabby jumped up with all his weight he came back down on the bending branch, sliding forward to the next and dazed hawk. If he couldn't get this branch to break, he'd do what he could to take down the fledglings with him and do whatever he could to avoid the hawks.
(hmm i wonder if we can use discord bot rolls for how well this goes hehe)

(omg pLS that'd b e so fun)
Gods, and he thought his sister was reckless. Surely, if the cats around here weren't insane, he'd still recommend a visit to the shaman, even if he doubted her methods truly worked. He swore under his breath in a language of his own, before leaping upwards, closer towards the other tom as he tried to get in the way. A distraction, right? Surely it'd be harder for these birds to knock a larger cat off a branch? He immediately let out a caterwaul, trying to direct the attention away from Uta.
"Hurry up!" he hissed at the other tom, his own claws clinging tightly to the branch he was crouching on as one of the birds dove for him, his own posture curling up to brace for the impact. On one hand, his assumption was true; the bird surely wouldn't make as big of an impact on him as a smaller cat...but he had forgotten that they were quite a long way up above ground. On a branch that could probably break with any extra pressure. Right. About that.

(discord bot rolls: 1-3 for fledlings killed: 3 1-2 for uta's distract: 1, fail 1-2 for hywel disttract: 1, fail )
Uta managed to get close and kick the remain two fledglings out of the nest but the hawk did not go for the first fallen fledgling likely presumed dead and after struggling to comprehend Uta was going for the young - it was even more angered by his latest action of dooming the remaining young and directed all of it tot he tom. It shrieked with great intensity and nipped the tom digging a gash into him as he tried to dodge ont he narrow branch and then proceed to get slapped by the hawk's wing nearly knocking him off. Uta's claws loudly scrapped the branch as he was left hanging by his front claws. Well that went just terrible.
Just then, Hywel's caterwaul cut the air, but unfortunately it was ignored. Hurry up he said, wasn't he suppose to be, i dunno distracting? But the snarky tom didn't have time to petty when he was still a target for the hawks. He glanced once more, remember when the broken branch fell it had hit another branch on the way down. Gauging how close it was and the risk of falling when the hawk attacked him or taking chance, guess he was going to have to let go. When the hawk swopping at him, he swung his weight his back and forth before releasing his claws and letting go.
( can't wait for gene to roll me another fail on this one xD)

(1-2: hywel distract - 3 fail 1-2: hywel falls, 3 no fall)
Hywel scowled as his little distraction failed, before leaping to the next branch, and to the next one. Every step he took, he felt the branches wobble more and more. He was getting closer to Uta, but he had to admit, he was starting to think this was a terrible idea. "Come on, you dumb bird!" he called out loudly, but it seemed as if the bird refused to notice him at all. He leaped up onto the next branch, one significantly thinner than the next, and suddenly, he was almost certain this would be the end of him.
He heard a crack. The branch swayed underneath his paws, as his panicked expression searched around frantically for a solution. If he fell, it'd surely be to his death.
Another branch! There it was, and he immediately pushed forward, using all of his muscles to make the next leap, one significantly farther than the previous one, and for good reason too because the moment he kicked off, the branch below him went crashing down, as his claws scrambled to hold onto the next branch, managing to get a strong grip as he climbed up properly, letting out a sigh of relief. Was Uta going to be okay? Surely this was the most stupid idea to have, he thought with a groan.

oh if you want to limit the roll you can do: -roll 1 2 1 = roll once, 2 = #options im so glad they have that option
( 1-2 uta landing on branch: 2 success 1-3 uta vs hawk round 1. 1,fail uta injury/2,draw optional both dodge/injury/3,sucess hawk injury: 2 draw)
The added swing was enough to keep him in the right direction and give him full clearing for landing on the branch, although it still took the wind out of him for a moment as he dropped hard and yup, he was gonna feel it in his joints later. If all else fails, at least the fledgings would prove a satisfying meal and something different when resting up later. The bigger challenge was getting their corpses away from their pissed off parents who no doubt would chase them from here to camp if they did try to make a run for it. Uta looked up to the hawk he dodged, well it's his problem now - no, no don't fall yet! That high would kill him rather than leave him in pain and incapacitated and an easy target for the hawks, and easy distraction for Uta to run away with the goods. Plus, there would be no way he could carry all of them back with two hawks on his tail and that would be a shame. The tom leaped, the branch crackling and snapping as it came tumbling down, and Uta backed up as much as possible to avoid and crossfire. At the first sign of the tom proving stable, Uta barely had a moment to sigh away his annoyance and hope it didn't cover or pin the fledglings - when the other hawk came at him. He made a quick frantic jump away to dodge those vicious little claws, having no chance to get in any swipes of his own as much as he wished he could have - with a thought in mind: Look dumb bird, chill I wasn't the one that just threw a branch at your kids okay?

(o rly owo LOL I'll try that hehehe 1 = successfully attacks the hawk, 2 = misses: 1, attacks 1 = lands on the branch, 2 = falls, reroll: 2, reroll, 1 1 = branch breaks, 2 = doesn't break: 1 breaks (LMFAO he's really having a bad day huh) 1 = catches next branch, 2 = doesn't catch: 1 (yay) )
They weren't all that far from each other now, which was definitely a good thing, because the next time the hawk swooped down, Hywel braced himself and went for it, paws out as he leaped and...slammed straight into the creature with a shout of surprise, as the hawk screeched loudly at the surprise attack and hywel reached out to grasp the branch....and missed. He swore loudly as he fell, trying to reorient himself as he looked frantically for the next place he could land without breaking any bones–because gods, did he really trust the shaman to heal him these days? After Rhiannon's excited mention of how insane her methodology was?–as he fell and eyed a branch, his claws reaching out and gripping it tightly, wincing at the way it felt like he was going to rip a claw clean out. The tom sighed in relief, but he suddenly froze, as a crack could be heard.
Ah sh–
Yep, the branch broke and sent him spiraling down once more. Wow, the gods were really trying to deliver a message today, huh? He gritted his teeth as he reached out to catch anything, hoping he'd manage to when a branch came flying in his face and his claws immediately gripped it, the young springy branch bouncing him back up. Had he not held on with such a grip, he'd surely be sent flying back up towards Uta, that was for sure. At least one of the hawks–the one he had crashed into with such a force–seemed as if it was unable to fly anymore.

( ye it's soooo useful I love doing the rolls for randomness and they are def both having terrible luck xD poor babies)
After being backed up on his branch from before, Uta's jump to dodge landed him back on gripping the tree's trunk and observing some the mess Hywell was in, then scampering the trunk barely a foot before the hawk danced around the tree looking for him and clean opening to swoop through. The crackling of yet another branch by Hywel's doing seem to distract both of them. You know, maybe he really should have committed to just pushing him off the tree, life didn't seem to care either way.
But hawks were still big birds, with fragile little bones. Uta wanted to jump on a hawk's back and end in similar fashion the problem? Uta wasn't high enough to gain enough momentum to deliver the same force Hywel could with extra weight. And Uta wasn't sure if he was close enough to the ground to risk jumping on one anyways and letting the bird taking the brunt of the fall for both of them. Uta then observed the springy nature of Hywel's branch.
"Hywel~" the tom smiled "why you clever genius I could just kiss you" the tom said as reached the next branch, one that was thin and immediately bended to weight. He would find a out by any means necessary even if it wasn't originally part of his plan. Ah so this is why that lucky tom defied the god of luck, Hywel could serve him well despite being (in his eyes) the cause of this whole mess (as if he had no responsibility in picking this battle).
( roll 1.fail,uta injury 2.fail,no penalty, 3.sucess,hit hawk: 3 )
Uta took big forward to make the branch lean down, and waited for the hawk notice and take the seemingly perfect opening - only once it came to swoop in, Uta quickly jump back nearly on the trunk as the absence of his weight caused the branch to spring back up and smack the hawk perfectly. No time to waste, after getting the upper hand Uta went for the second surprise attack.
(I honestly forgot how high up he is so he's prob gonna be at the mercy of gene next post xD)

The hawk was still squawking, its wings catching onto the branches of the tree as Hywel caught his breath. He could almost laugh at the absurdity of this whole situation. How strange it all was, that here he was, attacking hawks in the air with some stranger. Still, Uta's voice made him chortle. "Wait until we get out of here first and trust me, I'll let you," he teased, as he watched Uta throw himself at the hawk once more, smacking it down.
"Good shot!" he called out with a grin, as he leaped to a sturdier branch, glancing to the last hawk. He only hoped Uta would get rid of this one.

(thats okay, sometimes I have to cut my replies short for time but I'd rather post a short reply than have to wait a day or two when i get the next chance )
/ and trust me, I'll let you, / What a foolish tom, he might just unironically do it and start liking this one for some strange reason he just couldn't put his paw on. But he'd have to get out of this alive for any of that to happen. He made contact with the feathery bastard and dug his claws in, yanking out a few pawfulls while he had the chance under the stun, before gripping on to bird knowing this part was gonna be the fun part left up to chance and boy did he love the thrill of danger.
( roll 1.fail,uta injury 2.success,no penalty: 2 woo baby )
He probably should've double-checked just how high he was but this bird was going to take the brunt of the fall either way, the fall didn't even seem that long - it instant hawk hit the ground and seem to come at him as gravity brought brought him colliding back to earth to with a sickening crunch of the bird inbetween them. Well that still hurt. He really had to ease up on the stunts these days or start thinking about moving to DayClan if he didn't want his aging to continue but eh, he liked it here.
Uta rolled over, off the now no longer moving hawk, and lying on his back as he tried to figure out what he could move and if he was hurt. Toes? Check. Legs? Not broken. Breathing? Well he was doing it, granted it hurt and he felt like he should've shattered his ankles from today alone but luck seemed to be on his side for today.
"Ay yah, you did good." the tom called out the rare compliment as he grinned something so genuinely happy it was somehow confusingly ominous in some way.

Honestly, Uta should've been a stunt double, Hywel thought, because there was no way the other cat should've gotten out of that unscathed, and the moment he had crashed to the ground, the other tom was already leaping down to check if he was okay. Concern was written across his face as he watched Uta roll over, checking for injuries, but he seemed fine, not yowling in pain.
Some cats really do land on all fours, huh?
"Are you all right?" he called out regardless, knowing that most likely, the other tom would be fine, "gods, you should get Charlotte to check you out." He didn't exactly trust the shaman but it was better than nothing, right?
Post by Shadowbladeღ on Nov 9, 2021 2:06:02 GMT -5
The marbled tom wheezed a laugh through menacing grin of his as he slowly sat up, a wince dragging down the corners of his mouth only momentarily as he paused. He let himself breath but since he couldn't remain half-way-sitting-up forever - he gritted through the pain and fully rolled over back on his feet, with a new flavor of sadistic joy tinged to that smile. Admittingly he laughed at the idea just a moment ago, but maybe having someone else look over his injuries wasn't a bad idea.
"I guess it can't get any worse if I do, right?" he mused in good spirits as he slowly stood up, but dear god was everything killing him as the rush wore off and he waited painfully for the adrenaline to kick in. "But first we have to bring our dinner back." he dared to turn to their shared kills, a stubborn cat who had no intention of going anywhere without his rewards - it was rightfully theirs and all this would not be wasted energy, for an (albeit) thrilling memory.
