Firewood bent his head down to study the odd-looking water. It was a weird inky black in spots and almost had a sickly green glow to it. "What in the--?" He took a sniff and recoiled at the stench. It was faintly two-leg and somewhat rotten. Looking around, he wondered if it would be helpful to bring some back in a leaf for Hystericstar to look at or to go back and bring a whole patrol to see. The leaf seemed like a good option so he went ahead with that plan.
As he was making his way back, the orange-striped tom stumbled over a root and fell face first into the leaf. The acidic water burned at his eyes and throat and he let out a blood-curdling scream.
Oathkeeper had been out, vaguely hunting. Rather, he was using hunting as an excuse to just relax for a little bit on his own as he walked leisurely through the territory. It wasn't too often that he would let himself relax like this, but he figured he deserved a break every now and then. He had just found a nice tree to sit underneath when a loud scream echoed throughout the forest. Quickly, he shot back to his paws, and ran towards the source of it.
Luckily, he wasn't that far away, because soon enough the form of Firewood on the ground became clear. "What are you doing?" he asked, his voice almost sounding angry, but if one focused enough, they would be able to detect the worry in his tone.

“H-help! It burns! Please, my eye!” Firewood’s fries were frantic as he scrambled to his paws and spun to face the other warrior. His left eye was a hot red and had the weird liquid around it. The smell was stronger now and it caused him to choke as he fought for frantic breaths. There was obviously no calming him down in this state.
Firewood's screams took Oathkeeper by surprise, and he took a step back, flinching at the sudden volume. "What did you do?" he asked, the bewilderment breaking through. It took him another moment for his mind to catch up, and he titled his head as he took in the grotesque sight that was Firewood's face. "No, no, you probably won't even answer," he mused quietly, then, normally, added, "The river is just over there-" A wave of his tail pointed the way. "-you should really go wash that off your face before your face becomes permanently disgusting."

Oathkeeper was right, Firewood couldn't answer because the pain was too agonizing. He tumbled towards the river, submerging his face into the water in hope that whatever it was could just be washed away. When his chest started to ache for breath he finally lifted his head. The cool air against it felt good for a second but the stinging was still very much there, just a little less. The scariest part was that everything out of his left eye was indistinguishable and he could hardly keep it open.
Oathkeeper followed the stumbling tom to the river, and stood by as Firewood submerged his face underwater. He was no medicine cat, nor did he know a thing about herbs and healing - combat was far more up his alley - so he had no idea if the water would actually help. For all he knew, it could have just as easily made things worse. He also didn't know how much time was normal for a cat to hold their breath, so after a few moments, worry started to gather in his chest. Was Firewood drowning because of his suggestion? But before he could do anything about it, the tom had resurfaced.
Tilting his head, Oathkeeper tried to get a good look at Firewood's eye. "The... whatever it was, is gone now," he noted. "You definitely look more presentable, if only slightly." Slightly being the fact that Firewood's eye was still quite red, but, as usual, he failed to elaborate.
