Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Sunfreckle's head was full of a lot of thoughts again--too many to get a good nights rest, so instead of sitting in her nest and drowning in said thoughts, she decided she would take a walk instead. Her paws had carried her to the Sea, a place where the sound of the water was loud enough that one couldn't possibly think. It was a nice, welcome distraction. Her reflection stared back at her, only interrupted by the ripples sent through it as she grazed her paw on the surface. Sunfreckle giggled quietly. The sound of the water gently lapping at the shore sent a light pink across her vison, almost, but not quite, chasing away the more prominent orange. It had grown increasingly more difficult to chase away as of late and always made her stomach twist and turn onto itself--a feeling that was not unfamiliar but still confusing regardless. Her question was why? She was happy, usually, had a nice life and a wonderful clan, so why were there so many upsetting thoughts? Too many what-ifs, why's and how's and when's, she mused.
Juniperdust came out to the sea often enough, when there was time for her to drop the perfect cat act and be alone. Tonight was one of those nights, after a successful day of hunting, patrolling, and small talk with these cats who never saw past her polished exterior. The ash-colored she-cat was wandering the shoreline when she noticed another cat, a warrior around her age she knew as Sunfreckle. Immediately her mind went to information mode, recalling all she knew about the she-cat. A former medicine cat apprentice, if she was remembering correctly.
Former meant she was of little use to Juniperdust now, but keeping up the image of a good clanmate was a valid enough reason to stop and chat. "It's a warm evening, isn't it?" The emerald eyes that greeted Sunfreckle sparkled with good humor. "Are you enjoying the water?"
"Hmm?" She turned, glancing over her shoulder at her clanmate. "Oh, yes, it's quite calming." Sunfreckle purred ran a paw over the surface of the water once more, pulling it back sharply at the coldness and flinging the droplets off. "Freezing, though!" She could get a better look at the she-cat's face now. Juniperdust, a pleasant surprise! She always seemed so put-together, as if every one of her actions were made out of confidence.
"Good to see you! What are you up to tonight?" Polite small-talk, something she had practiced time and time again in the medicine-cat den with the more chatty patients.
Juniperdust laughed good-naturedly at the comment about the temperature, moving a little closer and sitting down a few feet away. The sea was calm at least, despite the noise, and it made for a pretty vista to chat in front of. "It's good to see you too. I was just going for a walk- nothing special, really. Sometimes I come out here to clear my head."
The warrior turned to her companion once more, expression softening. "What about you? I expect you aren't going for a icy plunge? What brings you out here?"
"Oh--no, I'm out here for pretty much the same reason," She slouched slightly, head turning towards Juniperdust, "sometimes my head just gets really full and I have to clear it somehow, y'know?" A slightly nervous laugh. Sunfreckle really needed to relax. Usually, conversation was a nice and welcome distraction, yet she struggled to keep her fur flat. Instead, she straightened her back and chose to turn her gaze to the stars.
"I absolutely understand," Juniperdust said emphatically, nodding her head. Her green eyes took in Sunfreckle closely, noting the tension in her shoulders and her shaky laugh. "Sometimes it's all a little too much." Personally, she'd never felt that way. Everything in her life was so meticulously controlled, so measured and balanced- but she knew it was important to relate to others. "If you want to be alone, I understand. I can resume my walk and we can talk again later- if that's what you want."
Sometimes she felt ridiculous, not grasping that she wasn't completely alone in her feelings. But did it ever feel like it--she never really sat down and talked to someone one-on-one about it, choosing instead to push it down and wallow in it later. It was sort of relieving, in a sense, to hear someone say Yeah, I get that. I feel that way sometimes, too.
"No--It's fine! Feel free to stay, honestly I don't mind." She gave a smile, a little weaker and a little less bright than most. Company was nice, it was good, it made her feel a little less alone. "Besides, being alone would probably just make me feel worse anyway." Huh. Maybe she was a bit dependent on others--just a tad.
"Unless you want to go--in which case you're free too! But, like, just in case, y'know?" Sunfreckle rambled, as she usually does. Words to explain actions she had already explained countless times, just to feel the smallest bit better about them.
"No, I don't want to go. I like sitting here with you," Juniperdust said warmly, genuinely amused by Sunfreckle. She seemed to be the exact opposite of Juniper- unfiltered, rambling, saying all the thoughts that came into her head. It must be liberating sometimes, and Juniperdust didn't mind listening to her ramble.
"What else did you do today?" She asked, shifting back into small talk so her companion didn't feel too overwhelmed by the conversation. "Personally, I almost got drowned by a fish I was trying to catch."
Sunfreckle gave a smile, moving a tad closer to the she-cat--but not close enough for it to be uncomfortable. She'd been holding off talking to most of her clanmates since she quit being the medicine-cat apprentice, partly out of shame for failing them, partly out of not knowing her place anymore. It was nice. She'd missed out.
"Oh that must have been fun," she laughed, turning to focus on a stone that rested beside her paw. She kicked it down the short, watching it land near the edge of the water. "I didn't do much--tried to go hunting, but failed. I've never been good at it, though. Then decided to be useful in another way by collecting a few extra herbs--never know when we'll need them, right?" She rambled, not paying much attention to the interest of her (single person) audience. "Oh! And I also went for a walk around noon! And then, obviously, I came here." She probably could have summed that up two sentences ago, but where was the fun in that? Obviously every detail had to be explained in depth.
"Not very productive, though, I'll admit. I haven't really been into it lately, y'know?" She turned her head to look at Juniperdust.
