Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. Half of the time, Mallowmusk found herself avoiding her siblings. It was never a conscious decision, but every time she spotted the familiar flash of grey fur, she found herself moving to the opposite direction, or joining a patrol, or going out for a walk, or striking a conversation with someone else. Even then, she couldn't always avoid it. The black and white she-cat seemed to be a magnet for her siblings after all.
So here she was, returning from a hunting patrol with a pigeon in her jaws, when her eyes caught the sight of the familiar grey pelt and green eyes, and her eyes immediately darted away, wondering whether Juniperdust would approach or not.
As luck would have it, Juniperdust was free and eager to chat with her beloved sister. Her family were the some of the select few cats that Juniperdust felt genuine love for, even if Mallowmusk had been oddly distant since their apprenticeship. Of course, sometimes her sister's reluctance to play along with her schemes or ideas ticked her off, but it didn't mean she didn't care for Mallowmusk.
"Hey!" Juniperdust greeted the garden keeper with an easy smile. "Good catch. That pigeon looks like it'll feed half the nursery." With a chuckle at her own joke, she walked alongside her sister, stopping by the prey pile. "Are you tired, or are you up for another round of hunting? I was just about to head out." Her tone was casual enough, not suggesting any vital importance that she accompany the gray-furred warrior, but there was a gleam in her green eyes that suggested it was in Mallowmusk's best interest if she went along.

A grimace was on her face as Juniperdust came over, and at first, the compliment made her heart ache. She missed it, missed having her sister around and laughing with the two of them, missed being friends and sharing secrets under the moonlight, with nothing to hide between them...but then there was always the danger at the end of her tone, and Mallowmusk felt a shiver run down her spine as she detected it.
"Thanks," she mumbled, before falling into step with the other cat, as if her feet had its own mind rather than following her instruction. Despite it all, there was a part of her that always just followed in her sister's footsteps, that just simply rolled over for her whenever she needed it, and the dangerous look in her eyes was all she needed to get Mallowmusk moving to Juniperdust's song.
The warning gleam in her eyes went away as soon as Mallowmusk acquiesced, as it always did. Juniperdust was always pleasant when she got her way. "Who'd you go with?" She asked cheerfully, as they left camp and went out into the beautifully flowering territory- it was as pleasant as it always was in greenleaf, the season it was named for.
Juniperdust had always had the habit of keeping tabs on the clan- who went where, with whom. Who did what, with whom. Sometimes the information was useful, sometimes it was useless, but she was always, always informed. She already knew exactly who her sister went with, as she'd watched them leave, but small talk was important to a relationship, she knew.

Mallowmusk knew that look. There was a danger in June's eyes whenever she spoke of certain things, a look her clanmates didn't seem to notice nor understand. She couldn't help but feel the trepidation rise up in her throat, as if there was suddenly a lump that was keeping her from speaking. She didn't know why she was so scared of her sister sometimes, but that look always sent a strange feeling into Mallowmusk, her expression belied the anxious demeanor underneath.
"Just a couple of cats," she replied meekly, "we uh...headed out to the mangroves by the beach." She could barely remember their names now that she was put on the spot, "why, did you know them?"
"I think so," Juniperdust said brightly, though she definitely knew them. "We went on patrol together last moon, I believe. Did you have a good time? The beach is such a beautiful part of the territory." The lands that they lived on were Juniperdust's favorite- she knew every inch of them, and loved them more deeply than she loved any cat.

Juniperdust's tone felt almost patronizing, and there was a sense of resentment in Mallowmusk's chest at that. Juniperdust spoke in well-meaning tones, as if the world was all fine and dandy, as if this was all just small talk but Mallow knew better; there was always some reason or another that she wanted to speak with her.
"What do you really want, June?" Mallowmusk mumbled, unable to look her sister in the eye. She wanted something and the longer this drew on, the more nervous Mallowmusk felt.
"Oh, come on Mallow. That isn't fair. I just want to talk to my sister," Juniperdust said, blinking as though she had no idea what Mallowmusk meant. Frankly, it annoyed her when Mallowmusk suspected her of having ulterior motives when she truly had them- and when she didn't, it was doubly annoying. Must she always be under such scrutiny from family?
"Are you implying I can't just have a walk and a chat with my littermate?"

She frowned, still avoiding Juniperdust's gaze. There was a part of her that truly wanted to trust that. She wanted to believe that Juniperdust only wanted to be friendly, that the way her eyes gleamed was just because of a trick of the light rather than with the deep-seated ambition she always had. Juniperdust was always somewhat powerhungry. Mallowmusk had known that since they were kits.
"Then what do you want to talk about?" she spoke, her tone direct, her eyes finally meeting Juniper's in a show of defiance.
