Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It was a rainy, quiet day. Prey was particularly plentiful so most DayClan cats took the afternoon off, relaxing in their dens to escape the rain and enjoying the short reprieve from the oppressive summer heat. What this meant for Moltenmidnight was that he had a lot of downtime to really think... and, thus, make a hard decision that had been weighing heavy on his mind for many, many moons.
He'd led his old friend, Fallingleaves, begrudgingly to the Wisteria throne, a place surprisingly private despite being in the middle of camp. For whatever reason Glowstar and Foxstar were not present so he took the opportunity and went for it.
"You have always kept others at a distance and I think I've finally figured out why. You're afraid of getting hurt. If you don't let anyone too close to you, no one can ever really hurt you. But that logic is so, so lonely, and, because of it, I've always worried about you. I tried my best to befriend you and be there for you even when it seemed no one else will... but at some point I lost sight of that and I know I hurt you. I'm sorry for how I reacted when you announced your pregnancy as well as the way I treated you and Pumpkinking. I was being... jealous, I think."
Moltenmidnight's kiwi green eyes shined bright, reflecting the purple hues of the wisteria that hung around the two of them. He was truly a handsome cat, the type most other she-cats would pin as a heart-throb at just a glance. Tall and muscular, he had a powerful build accented with beautiful sleek bengal fur, paired well with his friendly eyes and deep, thunderous voice. His recent ascension to Imperial made him even more desirable, and Fallingleaves would know that even if she didn't agree.
"So I've been thinking of the best way I can help you now. You need someone you can protect you so you don't have to keep up a guard all the time. Someone who will help raise you kits. Someone who loves you for you and always has," His earnest eyes didn't shift but his ears pinned back slightly, "Fallingleaves, I have arranged for the two of us to be married. I will do everything in my power to bring you the happiness you and your family deserves."
The crimson she-cat thought to herself, despite the fact that she had reluctantly agreed to speak with Moltenmidnight alone. The last time the two of them had been alone, things had gotten heated rather quickly and ended with both of them leaving hurt and angry. She had half a mind to just turn around and leave before the conversation could even begin, but this time when Moltenmidnight had approached her it was different. He was calm, his tone respectful. Even though they were having a disagreement, out of respect for the friendship they had forged so long ago she wouldn't deny him a conversation so long as he remained civil. She owed him that much at least.
He had requested this meeting, so she listened to his words. Surprised to hear him apologize for his recent behavior, and for a moment it seemed as if this meeting wouldn't be so bad.... then he continued....
Before she could stop herself, her paw flew through the air to strike his cheek. Claws, drawing blood as they raked through flesh. It happened so fast, it hadn't even registered in her mind that she had stuck him "How DARE you?" instead of speeding up, her voice slowed down and deepened. A guttural growl filling the space of the Wisteria throne and vibrating through it's roots taking a step closer with the tip of her tail twitching
"Moltenmidnight, I do NOT even recognize you any more. The tom I grew up with, the tom I considered my best friend, would NEVER have even suggested something so preposterous. Have your lost your mind?" there was a mix of anger, hurt, and concern all wrapped up in her gaze "The tom I grew up with respected my choices, even when they disagreed with me. The tom I called my friend, wouldn't even suggest something as stupid as an arranged marriage to someone who already has a mate" Her claws dug into the dirted floor of the throne room
"Like it or not, Pumpkinking is here to stay. You might as well just accept that and move on. He is the father of my kits, something you will never have the privilege of saying. I had hoped that we could work through this and remain friends, but I am done Moltenmidnight. This isn't healthy. Not for you, not for me, and certainly not for MY kits. You will no longer be involved in MY family's lives, you are nothing to me"
Moltenmidnight only barely stifled a growl that rose in the back of his throat. He'd anticipated a reaction like this, although he had guessed she would be more likely to turn and walk away than to actually retaliate, so he was at least a little proud of her for standing up for herself for once. Still, his cheek burned from where she had cut him, which stirred his darker instincts to want to retaliate.
"You're trying to scare me out of your life. It's not going to work," Moltenmidnight replied, although his teeth were gritted at the beginning, "I have always respected you and always will, but I think I've been pretty clear in saying that I don't respect many of your choices. Pumpkinking is the biggest mistake of your life. Not only did he use you and toss you aside, but he waited until you did all the hard work by yourself to show his face, brandishing presents and compliments that somehow granted him access to your heart again. The Fallingleaves I knew wouldn't tolerate such insolence. She'd tell him to get out because if he wasn't there when it was hard then he doesn't get to be there when it's fun."
He lifted his paw up to his cheek and wiped the blood away, trembling ever so slightly.
"I don't understand how you tolerate Pumpkinking. Last I knew he wasn't even your mate... You know I would have never arranged this marriage if I'd known that. But regardless, it's too late now, this is how it's going to be. I will be a much better father to your children than Pumpkinking. He can still be a part of their lives, sure, but mark my words - he disappeared on you once before and he will do it again. But me? I'll always be here for you, no matter what, same as I always have been."
Moltenmidnight put his paw down and turned his other, un-marked cheek toward Fallingleaves, his eyes glimmering, "Hit me again if it helps, but remember that I'm doing this for you. I've loved you ever since we were apprentices and my biggest regret is waiting so long to say that."
She'd tell him to get out because if he wasn't there when it was hard then he doesn't get to be there when it's fun
Wasn't that exactly what she was telling Moltenmidnight to do? He could play pretend all that he wanted, but whatever had been left between them was gone now. This whole arranged marriage thing, the final push she needed to sever those connections "Say what you wish, it is MY choice. Not yours" she stood her ground firmly, unyielding "I will NOT marry you, and there is nothing that you can say or do to me to change my mind" she challenged meeting his gaze with her own "I came here out of respect for the friendship we once had, but the respect I had for you is gone. The cat standing before me now isn't even a pale shadow of the Moltenmidnight that I knew. So insecure that he can't even accept NO as an answer, like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum. Its pathetic " she spit the last word
She had no reason to hold back her hurtful words now, no reason to keep the dark recesses of her mind at bay "Moltenmidnight, I will NEVER choose you. I suggest you abandon this path you have chosen, before you get hurt any further. Drop this nonsense, and pursue someone who might one day return your affections. Stop your pursuit of me, for you will NEVER have me"
Moltenmidnight hadn't wanted to state the obvious here, but Fallingleaves was acting like a child. He'd expected it. Told himself that he'd need to keep his guard up, stay calm, collect. But she'd gone straight for the throat and there really wasn't anything he could do to protect his heart from her vicious emotional attack.
He'd have to be blunt.
"As an Imperial, I have the right to make these kinds of decisions for you. It is a system that all the Warriors of DayClan voted to implement, the same Clan that voted me into this position. DayClan trusts me to make the best decisions for my clanmates and you need to do the same, Fallingleaves."
He broke eye contact with her now, not because he felt threatened by her but because he didn't want her to see the tears of frustration welling in the corners of his eyes. He really did love and adore her and it broke his heart to see her so distraught.
"I'm not asking you to love me right away. I know you need some time and distance, same as you always do... But this marriage will happen. Everything else is negotiable, but not this. All I want to do is make you happy..."
Fallingleaves face paled, before her eyes narrowed in "This is where you are wrong, one always has a choice and I will NOT marry you Moltenmidnight"
It was something she had learned the hard way. Sometime choices were hard, but one always had a choice.... He would have had to of known that she wasnt going to go quietly, that she would fight this decision of his tooth and nail. The russet she-cat's fur bristled outwards. As far as she was concerned the whole social system could burn before she would give in "You know of my past, the decisions that were taken from me before I could even open my eyes" a growl rumbled in her throat "Who I take as a mate and marry will not be decided by anyone but me"
"Glowstar will never allow this decision stand, nor will the council"
"You're repeating yourself, sweetheart," Moltenmidnight sighed, taking a step away from her. He had expected her to have run off by now but since she hadn't it seemed he had to be the one to put some space between them, "Go speak to Glowstar and the council if you wish. They knew the rules better than you do, perhaps they will give you the clarity you need to understand why I did what I did. I think for now what's best for both of us is a little bit of distance so I will leave you be to think things over and calm down. I'll check back in with you tomorrow evening..."
Was it cowardly to retreat? No, it was really Moltenmidnight's only option at this point, neither of them were making any headway and if he kept going he'd surely explode. As an Imperial he couldn't let that perfect, controlled mask slip - he had to keep up appearances.
"... Fallingleaves, Don't forget that I did this out of love. I love you."
Glowstar let out a wailing shriek from the wisteria throne that people were becoming all too well acquainted with. The first few times people inferred that Foxstar had assassinated her. But after recognizing it was a fear of a ferret, a baby ferret no less the concern of the clan gradually decreased. At this point Glowstar could be being assassinated and no one would check on her.
"C'mon," Glowstar said in a shaky tone, by whimpered sharply, practically wincing back. Her paw trembled as she motioned the stick once more, her breath hitching every few seconds as she poked the six foot willow branch, nudging the prey closer to the baby ferret. The baby ferret was staring at the stick that was pushing the food over, but instead marched right past the stick, "PLEASE NO! JUST EAT THE FOOD, DON'T COME CLOSER!" Glowstar practically sobbed.

Fallingleaves stormed inside, the cats outside parting like a sea of grass before the wind with a single glance. Normally the sight of Glowstar trying to so hard to bond with the ferret would have brought a smile to her face, but today it didn't even get a ghost of smile. The baby ferret chattered as she approached, but upon seeing the murderous look in her eyes it slunk backwards and away from the two of them "I'm going to kill him" she declaredly flatly, almost as if she was just commenting on the weather outside as she began to pace in circles around the leader
"I'm going to kill him, put his entrails in the trees, and let let the birds peck out his eyes" her tail lashed from one side to the other, the sound of her heavy footsteps causing a steady beat to fill the throne room "Or perhaps reverse that order" she growled, let him feel every excruciating moment of it "I will not stand for this. I will NOT do it" she declared, forgetting that the leader had no idea who or what she was talking about, the conversation between her and Moltenmidnight happening only moments before this
"Glowstar, you will put an end to his nonsense or I will"
"AW," Glowstar grinned ear to ear looking up and down at Fallingleaves approvingly, "HELL YEAH! I don't know what this is about, but like, let's WRECK, this tyranny. I'm in, let's do this, what are we taking down? The patriarchy? Rebel causes? Elder rights group, I mean c'mon dude, this is DayClan, we don't have elders because of the land, not because there's some evil group killing off the old, just get off my back about it, right?"

Fallingleaves didn’t cease her pacing “this whole social class nonsense” she blurted out, with Glowstar showing her support
”Moltenmidnight has this absurd notion in his head that he can force me to marry him just because he’s an imperial, when I already have a mate and kits with said mate” the whole thing was ridiculous and she refused to acknowledge that there was any legitimacy to it at all “The whole thing is just insane” she ranted, never stopping or remaining still for even a moment “He has the audacity to say that it was for my own good, the nerve of these toms. They always think they know more than we do, and that the have to protect every she-cat they come across. I can protect myself and make own decisions, I don’t need some mouse-brained, stubborn, inconsiderate fool telling me who I can and can not be with”
"YEAH!" Glowstar chanted, "I never even liked it, I got outvoted by the entire clan!"
”Moltenmidnight has this absurd notion in his head that he can force me to marry him just because he’s an imperial, when I already have a mate and kits with said mate.”
"The gull on that guy," Glowstar agreed.
“He has the audacity to say that it was for my own good, the nerve of these toms."
"I had a tom tell me to stop bleeding my claws out trying to climb out of a prison or I'll die from blood loss, some toms just step over the line," Glowstar nodded.
"I can protect myself and make own decisions, I don’t need some mouse-brained, stubborn, inconsiderate fool telling me who I can and can not be with.”
"Although I do like to be ordered around just so I can defy them and feel a punishing, perfectly strategized blow to myself and ego," Glowstar gushed, curling her paw around her tail lovingly reminiscing about the old days with Foxstar. Likely not a good time to think about it in such a way with her granddaughter with her, but there was seemingly no stopping that.

Fallingleaves breathed in and out, trying to catch her breath after the long rant. Se had expected some sort of pushback from Glowstar, but all she got was agreement and cheers. It was kind of strange, catching her off guard, and taking some of the steam out of her heated passionate argument that she had been using to try and win over DayClan's leader. Her tail lashed back and forth, but it was clear that some o the fury was starting to fade. At least for the moment...
"So it's settled then. You will step in and put an end to this" Faith
"Yeah, sure," Glowstar said, her paw spinning a leaf between her toes, "We should have these talks more often, this was nice," She said, flashing a smile gentle as a summer breeze to her granddaughter.
