Fatekit felt like he was on top of the world! And to him, he certainly was. The tom had taken advantage of the camp's morning emptiness to try something he had always wanted to do in his weeks long life: climb the camp's walls. There weren't many footholds for larger cats, but for a small kitten like him there were plenty of place to move and jump around onto. The kitten couldn't have been more proud of himself when he found himself a few fox-lengths above the camp. His feet were on foot hold just barely big enough to fit him, and looked to be in danger of crumbling to the trained eye. His eyes flashed in excitement when he saw his mom in the camp below. "Look! Ma!" His eye shone with excitement. "I'm taller than you!" He stuck out his tongue. "I bet you can't catch me!" He took another step forward, heading in the direction of the waterfall. --------------
Vividkit looked up at her brother with wide yellow eyes, her expression best described as "owo." She looked extremely cute especially given the fact that she had just recently applied her own body paint for the first time. It was a bit sloppy but clearly meant to be red sunflowers which almost glowed against her luminous white pelt.
Even that high up, Fatekit would be able to recognize his sister very easily.
"You look so cool, big brother! But how are you going to get down from there!?"

Littlestar had only let her attention lapse for a moment to speak with one of the Janus only to find her son high up on the canyon wall. It nearly gave her a heart attack, eyes widening as she raced over to hover underneath where the young tom hovered up ahead "Fatekit, sweetie I need you to hold still for a moment so that I can get you down" her mind raced with how to get him down. He was far to high up for her to get up there, and to far down for someone from the top of the canyon to reach them @ian Jetclaw
Fatekit shook his head, completely unaware of his mom's panic. "No! I wanna go higher! You're just jealous that I'm somewhere you can't go!" He turned his attention back to his not-so-careful pawsteps up the side of the cliff face. His sister posed an important question: how would he get down? But his attention span didn't let him sit on that for too long, as the waterfall's mist started to moisten his coat. "Wow, it's like it's raining up here!"

By now cats were starting to gather to watch the scene unfold. Some went through the tunnels to run to the edge of the canyon, while other waited down below trying to prepare a way to catch the kit "Fatekit!" she pleaded, but there wasn't much else she could do, padding as far as she could to try and stay below him in case he fell "The rocks near the water are slippery, I don't want you to fall. Please just hold still for a few moments" she looked towards her den, "Skipstep" she called for her mate and the kits father, he would know how to handle this JetclawJadie
Skipstep had gone off to hunt and he'd promised to be right back, and he had absolutely intended to be right back. But then he'd spotted a lovely plump rabbit he knew Littlestar and the kits would love, and it had taken him a little longer than expected.
But his ears shot up as he neared camp and he could hear his mate calling for him.
He quickened his pace hurrying back into camp, dropping the rabbit once he was in camp, leaving it for someone else for the moment.
"What is it? What's happened?" He said rushing to Littlestar, and then he saw Fatekit. His eyes widening. "Good heavens!" He gasped. "Fatekit, what are you doing?!"

Littlestar pressed against Skipstep, her long fur intertwining with his but her eyes remained glued on the kit. Her mind reeling trying to figure out how to get him down from the steep cliffside. The rocks were far to unstable to hold even her meager weight, and even an apprentice would struggle to make it up that far without the stones giving way. There really was only two solutions. One was to convince Fatekit to come down on his own, the other was to wait until he fell and ensure that they caught him safely. But from such a height there wasn't really a way to ensure that he would survive the fall "We have to get him down" she whispered to his mate, hoping that he would have an idea "He thinks we are jealous because we can't get up there" Jetclawstardance
Fatekit's not so careful pawsteps continued forward on the rocky cliff face. The tom scrunched his face together as he tried to focus on where each of his paws went, but there was only so much a clumsy kitten could do. Rocks tumbled down the sheer face of the cliff as he continued along his way. He noticed his father arrive, and immidiately looked back/down at him. "Hey! Dad! I'm even taller than you!" A smile spread across his lips. "What are you gonna do about it?!"

Littlestar was getting more anxious by the moment, a fact that he mate would not doubt pick up on because of their mate bond. There was little she could do though,as she looked over to her mate hoping that he would be able to talk some sense into their son Jetclaw
"Hmm," Skipstep went over to the ledge. "I dunno, you're so far away son it's hard to say. Get a little closer to me, then we can know for certain." He told Fatekit.
"I mean unless you're stuck son. It's all right to admit you're stuck." He said.
Then to Littlestar. "I'm going to try the Jetcl-Jetstar way. The way where you try to make it sound like they're actually losing and to challenge them to do the safer thing. We'll find out if it works." He whispered to his mate out of the corner of his mouth.
There was a risk Fatekit might not be able to climb down but if Fatekit could at least get a little closer.
"Come on son, I can't gauge if you're taller or not from so far off, come a little closer."
For her part, Vividkit still very much saw this as a game and padded after Skipstep to try and join in. Of course, she didn't get very far before her Perfectstorm grabbed her by the scruff and pulled her away, "That's dangerous. Keep back."
"But Fatekit---!"
"Fatekit is in a lot of trouble, he just doesn't know it. He could die. The best thing you can do is sit down and pray to the Sun God that he will survive this," Perfectstorm said loud enough for the surrounding kits to hear, although there was no way that Fatekit would be able to over the roar of the waterfall. The massive-silvered furred tom turned his eyes to Littlestar and gave her a glare, as if to say Really?, although he didn't speak.
"What do you mean, Fatekit could die...?" Vividkit replied, eyes filling up with tears as she edged closer and closer to a full mental breakdown.

"Perfectstorm" Littlestar glared, but now she had two situations to deal with. Her kit hanging over a cliff and a group of sobbing ones
She leaned down and pulled her other kits close to her, safely away from the edge "Your father and I are going to get Fatekit down" she mewed softly, licking them between the ears "but right now, mommy needs you all to go back inside of our den and wait on us to get him. Can you do that for me?"
His eyes narrowed. What he was definitely taller than him! That tom had bees in his brain for sure. "No thanks dad! I know I'm taller than you!" He stuck out his tongue and looked back at the face of the cliff in front of him. "I can see the top of your head from up here!" He giggled and continued his ascent up the face of the cliff. As he continued the rock started to become more slippery as the waterfall neared. He stopped and looked down to see Perfectstorm grabbing his sister by the scruff. From a distance, he misread his sister's fear as excitement. "Don't worry sis! I can still get taller! Maybe I'll even get up to the sun!"
"Shielding cats from reality under the guise of protecting them is the reason why we're in this situation," Perfectstorm answered his mother with a growl although, to his credit, he shut up after that. The damage had already been done, of course.

"I don't want Fatekit to die..." Vividkit sniffled, looking up at her mother with big, watery eyes, "Are you sure he's not going to die, mama?"
Skipstep growled in frustration mind racing. "Fatekit!" He called. "You're upsetting your mother and siblings!" He called. "Come down, now or I will delay your apprenticeship. I'm going to count to 10 and if you're not climbing down I'll add a moon." He called.
"Think carefully son!" He warned. "I'm counting to 10!"

Littlestar leaned down and rasped her tongue over Vivdkit's ears. She didn't want to make and false promises that she couldn't keep "Me and your father are going to do everything we can to get him down from there unharmed, so we need to focus" about that time Silverfringe had made it to the top of the canyon where the High Priestess' den was to help with the other kits "Mommy needs you to go back to the nursery with Silverfringe" she leaned down to whisper into the kits ears "You have always been my brave daughter, and right now Fatekit and me need you to be strong" she gently wiped away her daughter's tears "Can you help Silverfringe with your siblings? Right now me and your father are needed out here, so I need someone that I trust in the nursery"
Fatekit's ears dropped back. Delay his apprenticeship? His father had no power to do that right? The logical side of the tom pushed him to try to figure out a way down, but a nagging voice in his head pushed him forward. Maybe his dad didn't trust him enough, and he could prove his dad wrong here! The tom practically puffed out his chest as he continued his way up the slope. "I think I can meet you at the---" Then the inevitable happened: the kitten slipped on the canyon's slippery sides. The kitten let out a squeal as he tumbled into the waterfall and went crashing down into the turbulent waters below.

"NO" Littlestar didn't hesitate, as soon as the kits paws began to slip she was already on her paws. Silverfringe taking her place to make sure that the other kits didn't follow their mother. As soon as Fatekit was in the air, Littlestar leapt past her mate and into the waterfall herself. Memories of drowning herself as a kit came bubbling to the surface, but instead of fear it drove her forward. A burning desire to save him from the same fate. Before he could hit the surface of the water, Littlestar had his scruff firmly her jaws, the force of the waves forcing both of them under the surface.
For a few moments there was no sign of either of them
Under the surface, Littlestar fought against the undertow that held them in place under the water. She couldn't go up, she go to the side. Finally she went down, diving down to the bottom of the river and escaping the strong current, only to be swept into another one. She could feel her lungs burning, but finally broke the surface. Struggling to hold both of their heads above the surface and get rid of the water that filled her lungs
The kitten, after the initial fear, did kind of enjoy the fall. It felt so cool to be carried by the water, until he felt his mother grab hold of him just above the churning water's surface. Then the force drove them under, and his vision became clouded by the turbulent waters around him as they tossed him and his mother about. He could hardly process the next minute of his life. All he knew was that his mother had him firmly in her grip, and that they kept getting swept about underneath the cascade above. One moment he could see the light above, the next he couldn't. He could feel his lungs start to scream for air, and then he hit his head. It was no fault of his mother's, but on one of the jerks his head hit the rocks below. Everything blacked out, and as the emerged a thin trickle of blood ran down his head.

Littlestar fought her way to shore, shoving the kit up onto the back before pulling her exhausted body from the water. She was coughing up water, as the other cats raced towards them. She had a couple of scrapes and bruises, but right now all of her attention was on Fatekit. As soon as she could catch her breathe she started working on him. Pressuring herd upon his chest to get him breathing once more, and to clear his lungs of the water that had filled them “Fatekit, stay with us” she called, her own voice crackling from the water in her chest
