Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
At least once a moon, Pumpkinspice found a way to sneak away from her nursery aid duties to trespass onto Summerclan territory. Of course, it's not like she was every really questioned when she left camp, since everyone had just assumed that she was off to find something new to eat - and honestly, they weren't wrong, but she did have another goal in mind. Summerclan was where her crush lived, the tom who had stolen her heart all the way back during the Apprentice Exchange Program. It had started as just a crush, but somehow, in all of the visits and secret outings the two had, it had become something more. Batflower, her first love, someone that she had never told anyone about. It was hard keeping a secret, especially from her sister, but she was afraid of how people would view her once they knew. A weird fear for her, but she didn't want anyone looking down on him.
This time, she had come bearing exciting news. It had been a while since her last visit with him, and her stomach was doing strange things. At first, she had just thought it was a reaction to one of the weird seeds that she had eaten, but it lasted a bit too long. Now, she knew what the cause was, and she had immediately dashed off to see him. However, what was supposed to be the best day very quickly went up in flames after she ran into a member of the Red Guard who broke the news.
Batflower was dead.
Pumpkinspice had wandered for a bit after being told that, and now she was somewhere between the two territories, probably. Her mind was lost, trying to make sense of it. How could he be gone? What was she going to do now? Her overly optimistic head was having problems wrapping around everything.

Calamityshrine often wandered around the lands, taking in the different scenery each time Swiftclan moved. However, this time his paws brought him back to somewhere more familiar. He took a deep breath in, happily sipping up the scents of Fallclan and Summerclan as he padded in between them. His thoughts seemed to move with the breeze, lingering on Ratstar and what he was up to for a moment, Hystericstar and hoping his friend hadn’t snapped yet and killed the clan with some herb, and then onto his adopted kits. A smile rose to his muzzle as the memories of Chaicrisp and Pumpkinspice as little fluffy balls of joy played in his head. What was crazy was that he could almost scent Pumpkinspice on the breeze…
He was so engrossed in his thoughts that it took him a second to notice that he wasn’t just scenting her, but that she was right in front of him. “Hey there, little pumpkin, whatcha eat today?” Cal purred from behind, mistaking her confusion and grief with her usual my-snack-is-gone reaction.
Pumpkinspice hadn't been paying attention to anything going on around her, but the familiar voice snapped her back to reality. Blinking a few times, all she could do was just stare at Calamityshrine, slowly tilting her head to the side as her mind caught up. Unfortunately, the realization of what the news she received followed, cutting the large grin that had begun to form short. For once in her life, food wasn't the first thing on her mind. "He's... He's dead?" she said, the shock turning the statement into a question. Grief wasn't a familiar emotion for the she-cat, but as she looked up into Cal's eyes, it really hit her. But she didn't want to make her adoptive father worry, so she forced a smile.
With tears forming in her eyes, she continued as if she hadn't said anything, but her voice was subdued, lacking any hint of the energy that always came with her. "What are you doing here?" she asked.

Cal had always been the sensitive type when it came to picking up on emotions, and could definitely tell something was very wrong with his adopted daughter as soon as he saw her face. At her words, he tilted his head and cold settled into his belly. He's dead. Who was dead? "Pumpkin, love, what's happened?" He pushed her closer with his tail and laid his chin on her head. "No matter what I'm doing here. Talk to me. Tell me what's wrong."
Why couldn't he have just gone along with her act? She could have pretended that everything was okay - that she was okay - if he had acted normal! The small bit of composure that Pumpkinspice had left was beginning to crumble, especially when Cal brought her closer. Softly, she dug her face further into his chest, taking in the warmth he offered her. Guilt began eating at her stomach, and she brought her tail around to lightly touch the swollen area. How would she even begin to tell Cal of what she had been doing?
"I..." she had to stop immediately, as large tears started to roll down her face, but she did her best to hold it in and ignore it. "Do you remember that apprentice exchange moons ago?" Perhaps the beginning was the best place to start? She could only hope that he wouldn't be too disappointed in her.

Cal put his tail around her shoulder and stepped to sit beside her. He wasn't expecting her to break down, but he felt relieved that he didn't just ignore her feelings. His thoughts went back to that apprentice exchange thing that he totally remembered happened and didn't completely forget it. "Oh yeah, I do remember that." He answered finally when it came back to him. "What about it?"
Whether or not Cal remembered the event, she would have continued on as if he did. She sat next to him, taking in the comfort that he offered. Still, she was unable to bring herself to look him in the eyes, instead she continued leaning against him, trying to listen for any signs that he was upset with her. Whatever it sounded like, she wasn't sure, but she was listening for it.
"I was sent to SummerClan," she said, pausing to swallow. Tears still forced their way through, despite her best efforts to hold them back. "And I met someone. A tom. Bat..." No, she couldn't say his name. It hurt too much. Did he perhaps already know where this story was going? How much did she need to say before he could fit the pieces together? "He... I looked up to him. I kept pestering him while I was there. Even after I went back home, I still went to meet him."

Cal's eyes softened with understanding. She had loved him. Was it the fact they couldn't be together that she was so sad? He never understood the idea of only taking a mate in the clan you're in. That was an outdated rule and rarely followed nowadays. Still, he felt like it would take more than that to cause this kind of pain to Pumpkinspice. He stroked his fluffy tail along her back soothingly. "What happened? You don't have to say if it hurts to much. I'll understand." He spoke softly.
The soft touch caused Pumpkinspice to lean into it as she tried to soak in the comfort. She was silent for a little bit, trying to gather the courage to continue her story. Normally, she could talk someone's ear off, but it was taking so much effort to talk now. She didn't feel like herself, and she hated it. How long would she be like this? Would this be how she was from now on?
She gave a small shake of her head, then pushed the words through. "I had something to tell him. I wanted him to be the first to know - well, second. Chai knew before I did, so would that mean he would've been the third? Was I the second?" Once again, she went silent, but this time because math and technicalities confused her. Perhaps she was also just trying to delay the next sentence, but she couldn't stall for too much longer. As much as it hurt, she wanted Cal to know.

"Wanted to know what?" Cal pressed gently, already guessing what she might be trying to say. But still, what happened to Batflower that she was so rocked? It couldn't be that he... Hopefully not. Or could he have cheated on her? Oh man, Cal would knock him into next moon if so.
For a moment, Pumpkinspice debated on which news to tell Cal first. She should tell the sad one, right? End it on happy? Though the happy news really didn't seem that exciting anymore. Instead, she almost dreaded it. Softly, she shook her head, deciding to just tell Cal both at the same time. Again, her tail gently swept over her stomach. "My kits are going to grow up without a father," she said, the word kits almost getting stuck in her throat. How was she supposed to be a mother? Especially by herself!

The mix of emotions that Cal felt were confusing at first and then settled like ash at the bottom of his stomach. Without a father... Ah, he realized now. The dots were starting connect and the picture was a tragic one. "Oh Pumpkin..." He was at a loss for words for once. "You don't need to tell me what happened." His tail stroked her back and he leaned his head over hers. "I am so sorry." They sat there for a while in silence until he finally spoke up again. "But look at me, you are not alone and will never be alone. You have your siblings. Chaicrisp would never let you go through this alone. You also have me. I will help however, whenever I can."
It took everything that Pumpkinspice had to not break down in sobs again. Even without her having to voice her fear, it seemed like Cal had picked up on it. Chaicrisp had been supportive when they had found out about the kits, and Pumpkinspice doubted that would change just because of Batflower's death, but she had still felt alone. They didn't get to have too much time together, so she had treasured each moment, but she had always thought there would be more time.
"What do kits even eat?" were the first words out of her for a while.
