Mustering up all of the courage that she could, Amarylliskit padded over to the first cat she saw and stopped directly in their path. “Excuse me,” she mewed, batting her doe eyes cutely. “I’m going to be a student soon and I was hoping that maybe you could give me some advice..?” She was never one to go out of her way to talk to anyone, but with her promotion inevitably approaching fast, she’d become a tiny bundle of nerves. If this could in any way soothe her anxiety, then she had no choice but to give it a shot.
"Mhmmm?" Diamonddust turned to face Amaylliskit although her white-eyed gaze wasn't quite level with the kit, "Ah, Amarylliskit. I didn't realize you'd grown up so fast! It seems like you were born just yesterday, like my little one."
Curled up at her side was a sleeping white-furred tom kit. He was only a few days old - his eyes weren't even open yet.
"I was never a proper student, nor was a trained with the same regiment as you will be. But one good piece of advise I'll give to anyone is to never let fear of failure hold you back. Everyone has bad days, that's a given! But it's important to remember that every mistake made is a learning experience that makes you an even better Warrior--- I mean, Shadowhunter."
"Yeah, you'd be an idiot to let that stuff hold you back." Ravenstar appeared from behind the kit. The soon-to-be student could make a good student, just like any other kit raised within their rules. "You could be one for all I know, I've been a student the entire time you've been alive, but whatever. If you're an idiot, you're an idiot." The young tom's voice lacked any sort of nicety that would usually be afforded to kit. "Not much we can do about that."

Amarylliskit giggled at Diamonddust's words, feeling like her grasp of time was similar to her own. Her time as a kit had whirled by so fast, but she was excited to see what this new chapter of her life would bring. "Thank you! I'll make sure to remember that," she mewed, but then jumped in surprise at Ravenstar's appearance. Staring up at him wide-eyed, she listened to his every word as if it came from Selene herself. Except for a lot of it didn't really make sense to her. Was she an idiot? She didn't think so. But maybe? "I will... um... try my best?" she said with a fidget of her paws.
"Yeah, try your best. I would expect anything less. I'm sure your best will be fine. If not, then we'll cross the bridge when we get there." He shrugged as a yawn pushed past his lips. "Just don't get ahead of yourself. You probably won't be the best Shadowhunter in our history. That's just not reasonable to achieve. Maybe you could be the best in the Clan for a bit..."
"Greetings, Ravenstar," Diamonddust said, bowing her head just slightly. She couldn't help but like the young leader. She had always felt strangely protective of young cats who seemed helpless, "Would you please explain to Amarylliskit and me how having a weakness makes you an idiot?"
She cocked her head slightly, her diamond-like eyes somehow trained on Ravenstar's by pure chance - since, ya know, she is absolutely blind as a bat.
He rolled his eyes, completely aware that the other cat would not be able to see it. "Are you deaf too? I said letting mistakes hold you back would make you an idiot." Yeah. His filter was never there in the first place, so words just tumbled out of his mouth without any regard for who he was speaking to. "That's simply a fact. It's not up for debate."
Diamonddust lifted up one of her paws and gave Ravenstar a gentle thwack on the top of his head.
"You need to think before you speak, Ravenstar. Someday you'll find yourself in company not near as forgiving as me or Amarylliskit," She explained, pulling her paw back down, "That tongue of yours will be your undoing if you aren't careful."
Her discipline was calm, friendly, motherly. She wasn't looking for a fight nor was she trying to insult Ravenstar. Rather, she was trying got given him genuine advise in the only way she knew how... although to say she was nervous to see how he'd react was an understatement. She'd sort of acted before she herself thought things through...
He had never expected one of his own Clanmate to hit him outside training, nor did he expect that cat to be blind. The tom jaw hung open as he rubbed the spot on the back of his head. He let out a low growl and lashed his tail. He turned to face the she-cat. "I've done my thinking: how's this? For striking your leader your are banished to the City of Ash for a quarter moon. Take Firekit if you wish, or he can be cared for by the rest of the Clan."
Now it was Diamonddust's turn for her jaw to drop.
"The City of Ash is no place for kits and there is no other queen to nurse him, Ravenstar. Punish me as you see fit but do not make my son suffer for actions that were not his," She felt her voice raise along with her temper but she didn't care. He'd hit on her two biggest triggers and she'd had enough, "You know what, I think I'll be blunt with you: I believe the City of Ash aught to be destroyed. Before Marvelstar's time MoonClan was much more friendly to outsiders and no one was forced to suffer such living situations. I don't think I would have ever given my heart to the Moon Goddess if she'd welcomed me with such cruelty. I..."
Tears began to flow from her sightless eyes, but she didn't turn her face away from Ravenstar. Somehow she'd managed to lock eyes with him, "... I was not always blind. A twoleg locked me into a cage and left me there, alone, to suffer illness, starvation... and that mistreatment is what stole my eyesight. I've never seen the moon or the sun or the grass or even the sky. I'll never see my son's face. And the fact that my new leader is the type of cat who thinks that kind of cruelty is okay breaks my heart. I'm trying to have faith in you, Ravenstar, but with each passing day of your leadership, I wonder if MoonClan is the place for me. It's changed so much. It's... it's starting to become a cage. And I refuse to ever live in a cage again."
She wiped away her tears and cast her gaze upward, "I'm not going to the City of Ash unless you drag me there. I may be blind, but my claws are still plenty sharp."
All these dramatics did nothing to phase the young (and inept) leader. He simply rolled his eyes and huffed his way through Diamonddust's clearly distressed voice. "I never said you had to take your son with you. I'm sure there would be plenty of cats willing to watch him while you spend a little time over there. As for the City of Ash, it is Selene's will that it exists, so it will exists. You pledged yourself to Selene just as I did. You also know sed lex dura lex. Law is hard but is the law." He paused. "You will be going there. Whether your son joins you or not is your choice."
"I pledged myself to the Moon Goddess, yes, but she has turned into a different being than the one I thought I knew. I will not give my loyalty away blindly to those who do nothing to deserve it," Diamonddust's voice began to raise. When was this young tom going to start listening?! It was like talking to a wall, "I still give her my faith, but that doesn't mean I won't challenge her judgements, especially since I haven't heard her voice in moons and moons. How am I to know she gave her blessing for the City of Ash when I only hear it second hand? We all know she has a voice and power to use it. Why isn't she using it?"
Firekit stirred at her side and let out a squeak in alarm to his mother's distress. He brought her back to realty and she gave him a few comforting licks on the top of his head. There was no way she would take him to the City of Ash and there was no way she'd let him be separated from her... he was much, much too young to even be moved right now.
"If you must punish me then pick something else or do it when he's weaned. Your current options are cruel and unusual."
