Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The time of day was night far after many warriors had been done with their duties. Whether they were hoping to find romance, flings, someone to have kits with, or are already disappointed by the turn out and want to go home the two were there and now it was time for conversations to fly. They only had 10 minutes and three partners to choose from so it’s best to ask and answer all the right questions to get to know the other.
Each speed round had a separate area for the two cats to talk. This particular speed round took place a few yards from the meeting grounds at the top of a grassy hill, but it was the starry view above them that truly stole the show. There was a meteorshower out this time of night sending flashes of silver shooting across the open night sky. Despite being out in the open the summer breeze that sailed past them felt warm and inviting.
Doefreckle stole a glance at the tom beside him, bowing his head and giving his chest fur a few hurried licks when he was sure he wasn’t looking; when he quickly straightened again, he threw the spotted tom a bright, anxious grin and let out a soft little laugh. He didn’t know why he was nervous. It might have had something to do with the faint guilt curling in the pit of his stomach - he knew he wasn’t here with the best intentions, knew he was still hung up on toms he couldn’t have, knew that if any of the toms he met that night wanted anything more, he couldn’t give it. He was just being selfish for a moment of fleeting validation. For a moment of feeling pretty and worth wanting again.
“You’re FallClan, aren’t you?” he asked, voice quiet. The meteor shower sailed over their heads like a beautiful raging sea, washing his fur silver and bathing half his face in shadow that melted away and reappeared every few seconds. “I’ve always thought it’s a little heartbreaking, the way all those trees must hide the sky.”
Cloudymuse was down for stargazing, while he normally took to cloud watching he'd make do with this sight. It at least meant he wasn't expected to do anything more than talk and he could deal with that. Work, moving, nope, he wasn't doing that. But laying here being lazy, absolutely. He'd done this whole speed dating thing because of the fact that he and Shieldheart were off-again. And maybe Cloudymuse wanted him to feel jealous of the fact that Cloudymuse could move on, even if it was just a single date with different cats for a single night. A fling if you will, because even Cloudymuse knew he'd be getting back together with Shieldheart before long. It was just the way they were.
Flopping down on his back, Cloudymuse looked up at the other cat from his comfortable position, the shower above bringing out the silver to shine through his fur. "Yeah, that's right." He paused, curious if he'd found a new friend, someone else who enjoyed cloudwatching as much as he did. "Blocks the view too. Sky doesn't change much though. Stars shift, clouds form and disappear, but then things like this happen and make a break in it. A meteor shower, who'd have thought on a night like this. Pretty interesting, right?"
(Ohhhh they should so complain and gossip about their other lovers. Cloudymuse came to this to make Shieldheart jealous)
Doe followed the tom with his eyes as he flopped onto his back, looking down at him with a soft, amused smile. Stars shift, clouds form and disappear... It was a beautiful way to think about it. Change wasn’t something frightening, it was what the clouds did all day and night - and they always ended up pretty, exactly where they needed to be. For a fleeting second, his heart felt lighter, more hopeful; he wanted to hang on to that feeling. But he couldn’t. The moment passed.
He sank down to lie beside the other tom, tucking one paw under his chest and leaving his broken one at an odd angle in front of him. The meteor shower reflected in his wide, sad eyes, dazzling his fur. “Beautiful,” he agreed, voice no more than a quiet breath. He turned to Cloudymuse with a gentle smile, a cool, fresh breeze ruffling his whiskers. “So what are you looking for here?” he asked softly. There was something restless and detached about the tom, however laidback he seemed; something that told him there was someone waiting for him back home - or someone he wanted to be waiting for him. “Something tells me it isn’t love.” His cheeks pushed up in a small smile.
(yeess!! i’m always up for gossip. doe’s might be a bit sad but he’d love the dirt on cloudy’s mans back home cx)
(Cloudy's man is having a hard time coming out as gay whereas Cloudy's family, before they all died, didn't care and cared more that he was a lazy cat than about who he dated so all the dating with his man has been in secret cus said man isn't out and cloudy gets frustrated with that. Plus cloudy wont admit he's in love because they haven't really been committed but no matter what they keep ending back together. Basically, these boys have commitment issues and when they try dating others, well mostly when cloudy tries dating others, he gets bored or frustrated with them and goes back to his main man who just gets him and knows he better than any of those other cats could.)
"Jealousy." Cloudymuse was pretty straightforward, not gonna beat around the bush with this poor cat. Just being on this date alone would be enough to make Shieldheart jealous, or at least it should. Cloudymuse hoped it made the other cat get its mouse dung crap together and get back together with him, it was getting boring cloud watching by himself. Or more like it was getting boring not having a certain someone come interrupt his cloud watching to try and get him to hunt or patrol or train or any number of things. Sparing a glance at the cute tom beside him, he shrugged. "Yeah, not here for love. But I take it you're not either? Here for the same thing, or just trying to forget about it all?" Cloudymuse is pretty observant and intelligent, even if he is the laziest cat around. His mind is always working, planning, thinking, even if he refuses to move his paws to actually do anything. His eyes moved back to the sky, letting the other cat take their time to speak and say their piece. If he denied it, said he was here for love, then Cloudymuse would let him live with that lie. To each their own.
(oh my gosh i ship them so bad, that's such a beautiful, agonising, frustrating love story of two soulmates c'
Doefreckle nodded, letting out a soft laugh through his nose and offering a small, sympathetic smile. "Just trying to forget, yeah," he replied, rolling onto his back and looking up at the other tom. A playful fire sparked to life in his eyes, brutal honesty suddenly pouring out of him. "The tom I've been in love with for two years has a wife now, and as much of a sweetheart as I'm sure she is I can't help wishing her all the worst omens in the world. That makes me sound just horrible, I'm sure, but between you and I," he let out a light little laugh, "I am a bit horrible. The other tom I'm in love with, because really if I could make up my mind I wouldn't be the iconic trollop that I am, died thinking I didn't care about him. So that's just great." He babbled away, waving his good paw in the air as he spoke, completely un-self-conscious for the first time in ages.
He suddenly rolled over, fixing Cloudymuse with a wicked, conspiratorial gaze. "If you ever need me to play along to make your guy jealous, I'm all for it. I'll never say no to making a stupid tom regret all his life choices. I'll be sure to make it over the top-" He demonstrated, batting the other tom with a gentle paw and throwing his head back in a high, dainty laugh: "oh, Cloudymuse, you're so funny and handsome!"
fox sorry got busy at work and didn't get a chance to reply. also wasn't sure how I wanted to respond lol. But do you wanna do another thread after this of them randomly meeting up to complain about their boys? Become friends and all that? Gossip buddies??
Cloudymuse nodded his head, staying silent for a moment before speaking up. "Well, can't say I wouldn't do the same thing. I mean I'm here solely to make another jealous." He wasn't going to touch that second one with a twelve foot tree branch. The dead were allowed their graces and that was to stay dead and honored. But he'd say one thing and that was all, "But, I bet he knew though. The one that passed, and if he didn't he has to know. You've admitted to the clouds your love and he's gotta be up there past them, so he had to have heard you." He was silent after that, until Doefreckle continued speaking and ending with a dainty laugh.
Eyebrow raised, he eyed the tom as he rolled over from his place still on his back but with his head turned towards Doefreckle, followed with an eye roll. "Yeah, I'll be sure to call ya if I need to give Shieldheart a reminder of who he should be with." He didn't mean to say the tom's name, but also knew this cat wasn't going to go shouting that to the sky, especially not with the glare and words Cloudymuse spoke next. "Though, not in front of others obviously. Boy's still keeping it all quiet." another eye roll, and the tom squirmed a bit, scratching his back on the ground before making himself comfortable again. "Why do boys have to be so dumb?"
(now it's my turn to say sorry, lovely cx uni has started back up and i've been getting back into the swing of it <33 but yes i'd love that! doe definitely needs a catty gossip buddy and i literally love their friendship so much already, they can just be so mean and clique-y but also so healthy and supportive of each other ♡)
You've admitted to the clouds your love and he's gotta be up there past them, so he had to have heard you. Doefreckle smiled, small and grateful; it was one of the most beautiful things he'd ever heard and it cut straight through any residual attempts to be grouchy. He hoped it was true, his heart aching a little with both hope and sadness.
At Cloudymuse's eye roll and his use of the word 'boy' for his on-again, off-again tom, Doe found himself grinning. It was rare that someone could make him genuinely grin - most cats tried too hard, or their humour was either too gentle and harmless, or intended to make him specifically laugh. It usually felt like sweet, polite acting, like fulfilling a requirement in the script, whenever he did. But this tom's snarky, biting humour, so flat and unimpressed and dismissive, was genuinely funny. It felt like an odd weight had been lifted from him, like he could breathe a little easier - first the date had quickly veered away from its intended purpose, now he was realising the FallClan tom was genuinely a match for him, and he was enjoying it. It felt good to have possibly stumbled across a friend amid all the drama of flings and feelings. There was no... pressure. He didn't have to be lovely Doefreckle; he could just be him.
"They're honestly not worth the trouble," he agreed with a long-suffering purr as he laid his chin on his forepaws, which really meant they totally are and I'm completely at their mercy. "All pretty faces and empty heads. And they're so stupid! You could be flirting yourself breathless and they're just standing there like, the prey is running well today, isn't it? And I wanna bash their heads against a tree. Like, I'm not being nice to you! If we're being completely honest," he held a paw to his chest daintily, letting out an affronted little laugh like a popular pretty boy who'd been blown off by a dweeb; he was joking - mostly, "I'm kinda out of your league. And you have the nerve to not even notice I'm tryna make a move? Useless. Hopeless. I can't stand them." He swept his good forepaw through the dust dismissively. A moment of silence. "They're cute, though..."
