Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Twilightveil was breaking two rules. The first was that, as a downworlder, he wasn't supposed to leave the City of Ash without an escort. The second one was that he had stumbled upon the Scholomance by pure chance - something he wasn't even supposed to see without runes painted on his fur - and was presently trying to find a way into it. The gray-and-white tom was very curious about this ominous twoleg structure and the strange, teeming energy that it had, drawn to it sort of like a moth to the flame.
After pacing around it for a few minutes, he found an open window, tensed, and jumped into it... falling right on top of an unfortunate shadowhunter that was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"Oops, sorry, couldn't see you from the other side of the window. What's this place called?"
It wasn't just any Shadowhunter that the tom fell into. It was the new leader. Ravenstar had been minding his own business away from everyone else in the Scholomence. For now, the place remained empty and devoid of life. It had a purpose, but with no one training to become a Luminary he had the place to himself. Or so he thought. The fall knocked the wind out of him and sent him sprawling. He was already enraged, but it grew beyond measure upon seeing who it was. "YOU AGAIN! WHY ARE YOU---" Then the realization set in. How could he be here?
Twilightveil scrambled off the young leader and offered him a paw.
"I got bored sitting around in the City of Ash all day with nothing to do, so I wandered away and saw this place. It seemed interesting so I decided to check it out."
The gray-and-white tom was very, very calm. It was almost eerie how chill he was, but, after so many moons of being totally alone, he'd adapted to have somewhat distanced, dampened emotions compared to the regular cat.
"Nothing devious, although you probably won't believe me, will you?"
Nothing devious? Every piece of flesh on his body doubted that. The tom couldn't even be here. The place was supposed to be invisible to him, and yet he walked right in. Confusion and anger swirled in his eyes as he batted away the tom's paw before standing up on his own. "You know you shouldn't leave there, right? That is your home. You are going to come with me back to the City of Ash."
"Yeah, you can tell me where I live, but you don't get to tell me where my home is. You're pretty dense so I don't expect you to understand that, though," Twilightveil mewed with an air of dismissiveness. He clearly did not take Ravenstar very seriously, although he mostly listened to the leader's commands. Glancing upwards, he realized that the window he had used to enter this building was much higher up than expected - he wouldn't be able to get out the same way he had come in unless he sprouted wings. He turned his arctic blue yes back to Ravenstar and cocked his head, "I guess lead the way, little Consul."
This cat really got on his nerves. What gave him the right to come here and just insult him? Nothing. No one had that right. He was the leader. He growled and final shook his head. "You want to talk trash to your leader? Fine. We won't go back to your home then, you can stay here." Something between anger and joy glinted in his eyes. "Wouldn't that be nice?"
"I mean, yeah, this place seems a lot nicer than the City of Ash. At least I'm not exposed to the elements," Twilightveil replied nonchalantly. He would sort of miss hanging out with Ayala, but he was sure he'd run across her again before long. Especially since he was pretty sure Ravenstar was all bark, no bite, "If this is where I'm going to be staying for awhile, mind showing me around?"
"Oh sure. We'll have plenty of time to tour the place." A smirked crept its way onto his lips. There was plenty of space for the other tom to stay for a few days. Perhaps not the best rooms, but he could survive for a bit. "Come with me, we'll start with the lower levels and work our way up." He waved his tail in walked in the empty hallway towards a staircase at the end of the hall.
Twilightveil didn't want to go deeper down into the building. Could you really blame him? He spent the last several moons all alone trapped in an underground cave. The idea of walking right back into something even remotely like that was the last thing he'd even want to do.
"I suppose I've got nothing better to do."
Eh, he was already here and didn't have a clue on how to get out, so it would be in his best interest was to stay with the one who know did. After dusting his fur slightly, he got up and allowed Ravenstar to the staircase.
Ravenstar lead them down further into the abandoned castle. Despite walking down flights of stairs, the light level never seemed to diminish at all. It stayed relatively steady, breaking part of the feeling of heading down into the Earth. However, when he exited it immediately became apparent how deep they were. The sun was just barely visible on one side, and the other was as dark as the night. "Welcome home, Mole Boy.
Twilightveil scoffed at the nickname but accepted it readily enough, he'd been called worse.
"Feels just like home," He mewed evenly, deciding to play along with Ravenstar, as he padded ahead of Consul to examine his surroundings. There really wasn't much to see, the place was very dark, but it had a unique scent to it that reminded him of the moons he spend entombed in the earth below, "Where's my bed?"
He smiled. "You're a mole, the earth is your home, isn't it?" He pressed a paw onto the cold stone below. "This feels like a good bed for someone like you. Perhaps maybe a little soft, and missing all the little bugs you must have eaten when you were down here."
