Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Water lapped at her paws as she wadded into the water. Determined to clean every speck grime off of her pelt. As the ash seemed to melt into the river. She caught a glimpse of her reflection. The twisted scars on her face and throat had healed and were now a soft pink. No longer baring the angry red color they while healing. She quickly looked away from her reflection. Something about the scars brought shame to her. Maybe it was connected to her lost memories, but she couldn't be entirely sure. Losteden's memories still hadn't returned to her. The only thing she knew was Fogkit was her son and that she needed to protect him from something. In her dreams she had broken fragments of a dark colored she-cat and a brown tabby tom. She knew somehow they were family, but didn't know who they were. She looked in the direction of the waterfall in the distance. Something about the sound of the waterfall felt like home, but her surrounds still felt strange to her.
Approaching from the same direction as the waterfall was a mostly-white tom with a few dark spots. When he felt her eyes turning to him, he looked up at her curiously and shifted his course to greet the other cat with a slight nod of acknowledgment.
Need something?
Snowshod's thought was projected into her mind. It was short, so he added a polite smile to balance it out. He wasn't very good at sending his thoughts to other cats, especially ones he didn't know well, and it was difficult to hold a conversation.
Out of the corner of her eye she had noticed movement. Peeling her eyes away from the waterfall. She noticed the mostly-white cat approaching. Her fight and flight instincts kicked in, but she found herself frozen like a deer. Standing in the middle of the Thunderpath with the eyes of a monster staring straight down at her. She knew it was risky to stray away from the City of Ash and here she had ended up getting caught. Frozen to her spot she could only watch as the other cat grew closer. She thought he looked like an apparition moving across the dark territory. What she didn’t expect was the nodded greeting followed by the voice that rang clearly in her head. Her muscles grew tense as she voiced the question.
With difficulty, Snowshod replied lightly, pausing when he noticed how tense she had become. It was strange, seeing other cats get nervous around him; the tiny mostly-white tom had never been a threat before, even before he lost his eye, and he had never imagined anyone would be afraid of him. But his new position did have some power, and the way he spoke now was enough to scare some. Thus, it took him a moment to realize the truth of why she was scared: she smelled of a mundane, and she was getting close to Alicante.
He frowned as he glanced between her and the waterfall, then repeated his question: Did you need something?
What is this! Losteden thought taking a small step back from the white tom. Wondering how much in trouble she would be that she had been caught. "What is this place?" She asked as she gestured with her tail towards the area that surround them. Casting a puzzled look at the waterfall.
Snowshod gave her a long, searching look with his sole blue eye. If she recognized the waterfall and the contents behind it, perhaps she was a spirit, or one of their kind reincarnated; but that would require her to be born on their land. He had not met many reincarnated cats, or at least, not ones that knew it.
Where were you born? he asked her. Here, on our land?
Losteden shook her head, "No, I don't know where I was born actually. Only that my son and I were found here. I didn't have a name and my son was too young he couldn't remember either of our names. So one of the cats from the City of Ash gave us each one..." Her voice trailing off as her cheeked heated up. Realizing she had admitted to sneaking out of the camp.
She must not be a reincarnation; how, then, could she recognize the falls and feel their mysterious pull? She confirmed what he was already beginning to guess, that she had no right to be exploring this far into the territory, and the frowned.
Shouldn't have come out so far, Snowshod reminded her. He wanted to say it gently, but that was a difficult tone to convey through thought. Alicante is not for you.
Something radiant about the falls pulled her attention. Shouldn't have come out so far, the words sounded like she was being scolded like a child. "Alicante?" She cautiously said the name. Testing it on the tip of her tongue looking puzzled by the strange name. Was that the name of the falls? "I don't recognize that name. Are they special it just looks like a waterfall to me?" She asked confused on why she shouldn't go near the falls.
Snowshod had been focused on his own work recently, and for a moment he was silent, searching his brain for whether she was allowed to know the truth of their territory or not. Mundanes weren't involved in any of his duties and he had grown used to being isolated; most of the time, he only saw his Brothers... and unfortunately, the brother he saw most often was Southspectre.
Special, he edged cautiously, you must not go near.
“Where can I go?” She cautiously asked, silently hoping the Silent Brother would say anywhere but the City of Ash. While she was grateful to have shelter to sleep in and keep her dry and somewhat warm from the elements. The ginger she-cat was getting tired of her living conditions. Cleaning ash from her pelt every morning and night was becoming a tiring task. It also made any prey caught difficult to eat. Each meal she had since she first appeared in Moonclan’s territory. Had been seasoned with the flavors of soot and sand. Leaving her mouth dry and unable to finish a single meal.
He frowned. They were both well aware she should not be outside of the City of Ash. She was not allowed behind the waterfall if she even knew there was space behind it, and the other landmarks could be closed to her. But Snowshod felt sorry for her, and he was still curious about her history here... it couldn't hurt to take her through the woods between the City of Ash and the City of Silence. It was a private area, but insignificant, and it was unlikely they would run into anymore around there.
Come with me, the elderly tom thought to her. Shaking his head slightly at his own decision, the small white tom turned and led her back toward his home.
Her eyes widened a bit and she gave a small nod to acknowledge that she understood that she was supposed to follow the tom. She found it puzzling that the waterfall was off limits, but believed someday she would understand. She also found the elderly tom to be rather strange. She didn't understand how he could project his voice in her head, but there was something strange about it. Something that reminded her of something she might of seen in a dream once or maybe a memory?
Their progress was quick along a familiar trail, but Snowshod didn't speak to her during the journey. He had to focus on where he placed his paws, not his tenuous grip on her mind, so he let their communication drop.
Once they were in the wooded area between the cities, he turned back to her. You should not leave the City of Ash, Snowshod thought, once he had felt his way to her mind again. But if you must, few come here. Do not go too close to the City of Silence and you will be okay.
Losteden followed the other tom closely. Taking in her surroundings but noticing the silence that had fallen between them. "Why are you keeping us there in the City of Ash that is?" She asked the question that had been burning deep in the back of her mind since she had joined the clan.
That was the simplest honest answer he could give her. Snowshod blinked at her, hoping she understood. He was taking a big risk just by showing her this space, and he could get in a great deal of trouble for showing her this much empathy. Even if he was a Silent Brother, he couldn't afford to let her in on the secrets of the clan. It was for her own safety.
