After the extra help with his hunting pose, Moonpaw found that his hunting really did improve. Not only that, a chance encounter made him realize that hey, he wasn't half bad at catching birds. Actually, climbing trees had become a bit of a hobby for him; the world was just a lot different from the higher vantage point, and today, he had something to show for it too. With a pigeon in his jaws–albeit its neck a little messy, he hadn't snapped it clean like warriors usually would–he sauntered happily into the apprentices' den.
"Hey everyone!" his mouth was muffled by the feathers, "look what I caught today!"
Berrypaw was perhaps the oldest apprentice in the den. She and Crystalpaw had been promoted just recently after the Great Spider Escapade, which she had honestly been surprised at because if the two of them could get in that much trouble when they were in camp, the entire group had to know that the duo would be hell once they had free reign of the territory. Actually, though, things had gotten much more tame with the pair, although she thought maybe it was because Crystalpaw had been missing in action most of the time that they normally spent together. She needed another friend, and she was in the middle of those thoughts when the other apprentice came in. Perfect timing!
"Wow, is that your first one?" she meowed with a grin, standing up from her nest and padding over to him to look at his kill. "Did ya do that all by yourself?"

He felt his face flush. Surely, if Sagepaw had known this was one of his first actual kills, she'd make fun of him for it, but Berrypaw didn't seem like that kind of cat. "Well...it's my first bird," he replied sheepishly, "I've caught a mouse once with my mentor." He had yet to truly adapt to this whole hunting ordeal. He just didn't have the natural speed and agility his other training partner had.
"Have you caught anything yet?" he asked brightly, knowing that the other apprentice had only been recently promoted too, "who's your mentor?"
"Well, it's a good one!" she meowed, sizing it up. While Sagepaw might have made fun of him, there wasn't a mean bone in her body. If anything, she was painfully oblivious to everything. "Hunting can be kinda tricky at first, but your first bird is something to celebrate!" she purred with her chest puffed slightly, before she turned to his other questions.
"Yes! I'm not very good at it, but I've cought some !" She then paused. "Well, so basically this is our second mentor," she meowed, referring to her and Crystalpaw. "We were promoted a long time ago, but Duskveil, she was the deputy before Larkspur! One day, she just kind of ... went missing, and that put about a month and a half lag in our training." A normal apprentice would have been very upset about this, but Berrypaw had just told herself such was life. "Now we get to be trained by her brother, Dawnbringer! You're with Larkspur, right?"

He smiled sheepishly at the compliment. "I think I like hunting birds more than mice," he admitted, "they're a lot easier as long as you can jump higher, you know?"
Moonpaw nodded to their story. Huh, that's weird, he hadn't heard much about the previous deputy at all, but he supposed that even in a clan like this, there were cats who came and went. "Then you guys must know a lot more than I do," he offered, intrigued, "you've had two mentors, so that means you know twice as much as everyone else, right? That must be cool!"
His chest puffed out proudly at the mention of his mentor. "Yeah! She's great, but I got stuck with miss grumpy Sagepaw. I mean, she's fine when she's not insulting me all the time but you know how rare that is."
Berrypaw puffed out her chest. "Yeah, it must, right!" She grinned; she had grown up pretty much knowing she didn't know anything, so there was something about the thought that maybe she did that made her slightly proud. "We especially know how to save the clan from spiders!~ We are totally useful and not at all an annoyance to everyone in sight !~"
Berrypaw tilted her head. "I have never really met Sagepaw!" she meowed. "I remember when she first joined because she sure did cause a ruckus but I always got sort of bad vibes from her." Her eyes then widened as she spoke. "I mean, not to talk trash about your training partner! I'm sure she's great!" she added with an awkward laugh.

Moonpaw laughed. Berrypaw was a funny apprentice. "Spiders?" he laughed, "what, are you collecting cobwebs for Pinesimmer or something? I bet he'd love some spiders, especially in his nest." He hadn't met the medicine cat yet, but he had heard a couple of things, from either his eavesdropping or from Jackdawpaw. From the rumours, apparently Pinesimmer was a bit of a grump.
"You haven't?" he smirked, "well, let's just say you're not missing much unless you actually like getting yelled at." All he could say was that she often gave him an earful over everything, whether it was about how his hunter's crouch was wrong or his ears looked dumb or whatever. "What's your training partner like?"
"No, but that's a good idea!" she chirped happily, before tilting her head. "Well, when Crystalpaw and I were kittens, she showed me all her favorite spiders and next thing we knew all of NightClan had to be relocated for the night so the warriors could de-infest the camp and it was all a big thing and Aspenstar never really got over it but yeah that's the story!"
Berrypaw shook her head. "Well, no, I don't really enjoy being yelled at, so maybe it's a blessing in disguise," she admitted, although she wasn't one hundred percent being honest. After all, she liked to get to know everyone and make everyone into her friend!
"Crystalpaw's great! When we were kittens, one day I went up to her and decided that she was going to play with me and we became best friends! We're basically inseparable!" she grinned. "Violetglass says we have the combined IQ of 4, but she's the one that found us in the middle of the Great SPider Attack, so I guess she's got a reason not to like us."

Moonpaw laughed at the story. It seemed like a lot of fun, and gods, he couldn't imagine the faces of the warriors who had to deal with that. That would've been great to be a part of, though he'd hate having to clean the elders' dens for the rest of his apprenticeship or something. Surely an angry Aspenstar would've been difficult to deal with.
"Well at least she knows that if any clans ever want to invade our camp, we can do that to make their life hell," he grinned, "I'm sure you two could really do some crazy things if you put your mind to it!"
She grinned at him. "Unleash the beasts!" she purred, tilting her head. "They've gotta still be under there somewhere, I'd think. We'd just have to find 'um!" She let out an amused chuckle before sighing. "Speaking of making someone's life hell, you got any plans for the next little bit? Crystalpaw's out and I'm gettin' a lil bored of camp."

Moonpaw's expression brightened. "We could always go out and see the borders," he grinned, "I still haven't really seen a MoonClan cat yet, and I've heard all sorts of stories!" He'd love to know what was really dangerous about those cats, "wanna come with? We might even be able to sneak around their borders!"
"The MoonClan cats are a buncha weirdos," she agreed with a blink. Excitement entered her eyes, and the she-cat let out a purr. "I thought you'd never ask! If we're real careful, we might even catch them in the act of ... whatever it is they do over there." She'd heard all sorts of conspiracy theories about both of the resident cults, SunClan and MoonClan, and she was eager to see something interesting.

Moonpaw's intrigue was written all over his face. "That sounds like a plan," he cheered, as he bounced on his paws, "come on, you can tell me more about the tricks you play on the way." He was already trotting towards the camp's entrance.
