Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Riddletalon had been sent to the city to pursue a rumor. A loner had told her that there was a litter of kits around here somewhere in need of help. Their mother had abandoned them the moment she could, but their father was said to be a terrible thing.
But she hadn't anticipated that her path would be blocked by an entire clan. Had SwiftClan really decided to build their camp at the mouth of the city?
The brown tabby twitched her tail as she regarded the challenge. "Well, here goes nothing," she murmured aloud and walked straight into the SwiftClan camp. "Just passing through, don't mind me..."
Violetpaw liked to keep her distance from anyone and anything, and so far had done a pretty great job. Her siblings, of course, were another matter; the more she tried to push them away, the tighter they seemed to crowd her, but even they appeared to be distracted by something else in their world, leaving her to her own devices. She had to admit, even just in her own thoughts, while it was nice to get some fresh air without her nerves being grated on, it was still a little lonely. She wouldn’t call any of her siblings companion material by any means, they were just too different from her, but she did long for at least one friend who understood her. Understood why she was the way she was.
Ears and nose picking up a strange scent — a foreign feline on the breeze — she turned her head only to see, minutes later, a she-cat approach. The apprentice’s ears twitched.
"Just passing through," Riddletalon responded, studying the apprentice with an inquisitive emerald gaze. Despite the grey on her muzzle, Riddletalon wasn't much older than Violetpaw; she had only been promoted a few days ago. It was strange to think that she had some new authority now. Before her promotion, she would have had a warrior out here with her to take the lead, or at least provide guidance; now she was on her own. It was up to her to make the right decision.
She bowed her head apologetically and explained, "I mean no harm to your clan. I had no idea you were even here."
Violetpaw raised a brow in question, highly doubting the words spewing from the she-cat's mouth, yet she found herself curious anyway and stood, padding to walk alongside the strange feline. The two continued their way through their camp, the apprentice ignoring the looks they were receiving, fully aware it was due to the she-cat's presence. "That's pretty interesting, given the fact that our scent should be on the breeze miles away." She grinned mischievously. "I scent a lie, but that's alright, for now, you've made me too curious to out you. So, why are you passing through, really?"
Riddletalon didn't react once to the eyes around them. She was not used to the attention, but she refused to give in to their stares. Her head held high, she marched on, and she didn't look back until Violetpaw caught her by surprise.
"Most cats can't catch me in a lie," she mused, her tone suddenly suspicious but reasonably impressed as well. "But I was not being untruthful. I did not know you were here before I headed out on this journey, and when I scented your clan nearby, I didn't expect you would choose such an... inopportune place to settle down." A smile dawned on her face like a wisp of smoke before it was gone. "I am passing through to reach twolegplace."
Violetpaw looked around herself at the she-cat's choice of words. "Yeah, I didn't choose the nomadic lifestyle. Born into it and all that. Now," she changed the subject quickly, disinterested in any mention of SwiftClan, far too interested in what story the she-cat was keeping hidden, "why are we going to twolegplace? Is someone waiting for you there? A mysterious lover?" She grinned and waggled her eyebrows.
"Oh, one can only hope there's a mystery lover looking for me," Riddletwist laughed lightly, "but that's now why I'm here, not today." There was a pause as she continued onward, focusing on where she put her paws. The moment she decided to share her quest was visible: she sighed, just a little, but her shoulders relaxed as if the burden of the secret had been eased from them.
"My job in FallClan is to be a nursery aid and look after the kits there," she told her, "but I was out on a hunt when I ran into a loner. They told me there's a litter of kittens abandoned somewhere down here, no parents to look after them. I had to go look. I can't leave them to die, can I?"
