Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The Shaman had heard the name of the feline, and she couldn't help but gasp. Reynardine. There was no way, was there? It couldn't be... The name was one of the names that haunted her; the list was gettin g longer and longer, but Reynardine was different. She was the one that she had given away to save her from the mess that was bound to come if she had stayed with Charlotte. She had done it to protect her. Had she failed? If it really was Reynardine, and her daughter really was in Primal Instinct, it seemed that she had. Was it a coincidence that the feline had ended up in the land of her ancestors, completely by chance? Was the curse real? Charlotte had so many questions, and it appeared that very few of them had answers, at least until she tried to establish contact. That was exactly what she was doing now. She'd sent someone to fetch the cat and bring her to the den. Charlotte would know if it was her daughter. All she would have to do is look at her eyes; it would be undeniable. She let out a sigh, quickly eating a lavender to calm her nerves before the feline showed up. Just in time, it seemed, as she could hear someone enter from the front... sunlight
Reynardine for one, had no idea why she was being summoned. She'd almost decided to ignore the summons out of caution, but that impulsive side of her that she couldn't seem to curb impelled her to answer the call. What did the Shaman want with her, of all cats? The ghostly she-cat followed her companion to the den, her mind whirring the entire walk.
"Hello?" The greeting was tentative, more of a question than a declaration, and Rey's stride was slow as she entered the den. The she-cat who turned to meet her must have been Charlotte, though she'd never met her personally. "You asked to see me?" Reynardine prompted quietly, her split-color eyes taking in the sight of the Shaman steadily.

Charlotte's gaze locked onto the other cat, familiarity smacking her dead in the face as soon as she saw those eyes. When the kitten first opened her eyes, Charlotte had been stunned; what on earth could have caused a split like that? Charlotte had left the kitten with her father shortly after that. It was the best thing for the kitten, she thought. If she never recognized her mother, it would be for the best, right? That had been what she told herself, but now, with the other cat standing in front of her, she doubted her original decision. If Reynardine had been drawn here anyways, should Charlotte have stayed with her? No, no. The shaman had no way of knowing that the other would find her way to her homeland; after all, Charlotte herself had doubted she'd ever be back.
"It really is you," she meowed, unable to contain the shock in her voice. Her daughter, the one that she had given away so long ago, was standing in front of her. Sadness flickered through her gaze; this meeting should never have happened. Charlotte had done all of the right things to protect her from this place... She then cleared her voice, trying to re-center herself. "Please, sit. I have a feeling that this conversation may be uncomfortable for both of us."
"Sorry?" Reynardine asked, more confused than offended by Charlotte's odd reaction. Why the sadness, the recognition, the hesitancy from this... stranger? Still, the lean white she-cat sat down, watching the Shaman levelly. She didn't exactly look forward to having a difficult conversation, but her curiosity had been piqued and now it needed satiating.
"I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about," Reynardine said politely, watching Charlotte closely. "Who am I... in your eyes, at least?"

"What a loaded question," the mostly blind cat meowed with a wry smile. There were so many answers to it, many of which were unpleasant. For example, in Charlotte's eyes, Reynardine was a mistake. Not a mistake as in unwanted, Charlotte would have loved to raise a litter of her own. But a mistake as in a lapse of judgement. In one night, she had broken the single vow she had made to the earth- that she would never bring someone else into the bloodline. None of those things, though, she could tell the other cat.
"Your name is Reynardine. Your father's name was insert name here." That was something that she shouldn't have known, wouldn't have known if she didn't know the tom herself. "The day I left you with him, I made him promise me one thing: to never, ever let you end up here. It appears that he failed." Her tail twitched at the tip. This would only cause more questions, wouldn't it?
"My name is Charlotte, and Reynardine, I believe you are my daughter."
The first part, her name, was common knowledge. But then she mentioning names she shouldn't know- Senan, her father's name, and mentioning that she'd left her with him? Then the blow fell, the statement that Charlotte, the Shaman of Primal Instinct- a group she'd found herself in quite on accident- was... her mother?
Reynardine didn't speak. For once, she didn't have the words. She stood quiet and still, her mismatched eyes locked on this she-cat. It didn't seem possible, but then again, why in the world would she fabricate a lie like this?
After a long pause, she cleared her throat to finally speak. "I- This hardly seems real," she admitted slowly, trying to keep her voice even. "I never expected to meet my mother at all- and you're here, of all places? You're... confident you have the right cat?" Reynardine was shaking her head even as she asked it, knowing she was being redundant by asking again. Charlotte wouldn't have said anything if she wasn't sure.

"That was intentional, Reynardine," she meowed. "You were never supposed to meet me. I tried to do everything in my power to ensure that you never met me." That, too, would cause more questions than give answers to. "I tried to protect you from this place, but it seems that fate had another goal for you." She shook her head slightly. She didn't want the she-cat to think that Charlotte hadn't wanted to be a parent, or didn't love her, or whatever else her performance was suggesting. The love she felt for the small kitten the day she left her had been unfathomable. It had been why she had to leave her. She couldn't bring her into Charlotte's world. Yet, it seemed that she had managed to bring herself there, right to the place that started it all.
"Unfortunately, I am positive this isn't a case of mistaken identity," she meowed with a nod. "I would recognize you no matter what." Her only child... "I was as shocked to see you as you were to see me. I have so many questions for you, but I'm sure you have some of your own. But first, may I welcome you home. Primal Instinct, this place, is where the answer to all of your questions lie."
Reynardine shared no similar love for her mother, who had always been some far away idea throughout her childhood. She'd been okay with being motherless, as Senan had been enough of a parent for her. Right now, all she felt was confusion and disbelief despite the evidence. Primal Instinct, home?
"This place is tied to us... to our relationship?" Rey asked, eyebrows furrowing. "It was just a group I happened to join... at least, that's what I thought. It seemed as good a place as any to hide from the zealots of the Loch. You're saying it goes deeper than that?" It must, since both she and her mother had found their way back here.

"This place is the reason I left you with your father," she meowed with a tilt of her head. THinking about those days of blissful ignorance made her head hurt. She had been so absolutely careless... "Primal Instinct is where my side of your family is from. Our bloodline was absolutely destroyed by this group, forced into madness and depravity. They called it a curse, but I believe in no such magic. Whatever it was, though, whatever caused our family to always fracture in the worst ways, I tried to protect you from it. I really did. Apparently, I failed, or perhaps fate is just a force too strong. Either way, you're here now." Charlotte then flicked her ear. "You came here in hiding from something else?"
Reynardine had sat down while Charlotte spoke- she had to, for fear she'd fall over. How could blood be that strong- or fate, for that matter? The white she-cat cleared her throat after absorbing the information about family curses and even more superstition- the same thing she'd tried to escape, only to be captured by a different form of it.
"My father died three moons ago," she said quietly. Her mother must have cared for him, if they'd had her together. "He got sick and died. After he was gone... there was nothing left to keep me in our homeland. It was a very religious place- Dad was from there originally but took time off, and we returned when I was young. Dad was a believer but I never was, and I'd already lost a cousin. I came here hoping to escape all of the rituals and the real threat of death for the cause they all believed in."
