Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Home is behind The world ahead And there are many paths to tread Through shadow To the edge of night Until the stars are all alight Mist and shadow Cloud and shade All shall fade All shall Fade
Elvenpaw was never what you would consider a normal child of the autumn. While there were many a kit who could be vastly intelligent or carry what many called an old soul, there were very few who could recall the very reasoning for why they would be more knowledgeable or aged. Some would try and guess at it — “I was born this way”, “I was blessed by the gods”, “My parents are better than yours” — but as for as he, or his family, no such reasoning existed.
Perhaps it was because the apprentice was still young — is still young — that he was, is, able to remember his birth. Or, rather, the images he saw directly after his birth. Let it be known, he didn’t see the cavern in which he was brought into this world, nor his mother, father, or the healer who guided them through the journey. Instead, he was graced with a sight that was so beautiful, he didn’t want to leave it. Green hills, hidden valleys, vast mountains. It was a beauty he could never replicate and, after that day, never saw again.
It stirred in him, at such a young age, a pining. The healer called it fernweh — a word which here means “missing a land one has never visited.” But even then, Elvenpaw knew it not to be entirely accurate. You see, he misses not a place he’s never seen before, but a land he once called home. How can it be so? Stranger things have happened, let me assure you. The longing, the aching, and the angst that accompanied — accompanies — such a feeling is very similar to grief over a lost loved one and heartbreak, in knowing that it was lost through an action that could have otherwise been avoided.
But lamenting over what once was isn’t why we’re here.
Today, as the sun shines brightly over the peaks of the mountains and Elvenpaw stirs in his nest, prepared for a day of adventure and fun where he need not stress or tense due to training, is a day for celebrating what now is.
Stepping out of his den, he closed his eyes and allowed the scents of his home — grasses, leaves, dew, earth, petrichor from the dawn mists — to wash over and soothe his scarred spirit.

"It's a beautiful day, isn't it?" Milkypaw had noticed the fellow apprentice soaking in the new day as he stepped outside of the apprentice den. She herself had been doing something similar while grooming herself and checking an odd crack that had appeared in the black crystal she wore around her neck. Negative energies were no good for anybody and she believed her crystal had protected her from something nasty trying to reach her. She would need to replace it soon in case whatever it was returned.
The calico stood from her spot and stretched each leg in turn, feeling ready to start the day. Perhaps she would go out hunting, or collecting, or maybe just on a nature stroll to somewhere she had not been before. So much could be achieved in a day that she wasn't entirely sure what today held just yet.
Blinking his eyes slowly open, the white tom gazed steadily at the apprentice who’d interrupted his morning ritual, ready to bark a few words of irritation at the she-cat like he normally would with everyone else, but something had him halting in his tracks. There was an essence about her — a trait of her very soul that had nothing to do with the corporeal form she inhabited — that had him closing his mouth and regarding her with a thoughtful gaze.
“Yes, it is.” His voice surprised him for a few short seconds. He hadn’t heard it reach such a tone in a long time, before death and reanimation brought him to this vessel and out of the silver havens of his kin. Cold blue eyes analyzed her from head to tail, taking particular interest in the dark amulet around her neck, but he still found continuing the meager conversation a difficult task. Elvenpaw didn’t come by socialization naturally, still struggling in maintaining his composure in this form, but rather than want the interaction to end and fade into the back of his mind, he felt compelled to understand — and maybe connect with — the she-cat before him.

She met his gaze thoughtfully, feeling his irritation roll off of him briefly. She paid little mind to it, he was always free to walk away if she was bothering him but he stayed. Something interested him or he recognized the need to socialize. She couldn't say and it wasn't really her busy. The small calico apprentice was a little surprised he did not know her name, but then again the white tom seemed to truly be living in his own little world in which few were invited.
"Milkypaw. You are Elvenpaw." It was not a question, but a statement. She would not feign a lack of knowledge to appear coy. She just knew when and where to listen and preferred to catch the names of all her clanmates. "I apologize if I've interrupted you, I simply thought it would be nice to greet the morning with someone else."
The tom dipped his head, a sign she was correct in her acknowledgement, and padded toward her. “I haven’t greeted a sunrise with another in a very long time.” His voice was slightly soft, spirit slightly absent, departing to memory of another time.
The truth of the matter was, his inquiry wasn’t a curiosity to be taken at face value. He didn’t know her name, and certainly knowing it would erase any awkwardness about referring to her in the future or calling on her at any point, but it was what he didn’t outright say that he was after: Who was she within? Outside of names and appearances, he deeply wondered if she was similar to him. If she was, what did she know about it? Was she aware of it or as blind to it as the rest of autumn’s devotees? If she wasn’t, what drew him to her so that he desired to connect with her? Some form of dark craft not seen on this plane for some time?
He shook himself off that trail of thought. The only way he’d receive answers to these hidden questions was by getting to know her. He was no stranger to playing the long game.A hundred years could be a mere blink. He smiled slightly.
“You need not worry. Were you planning an outing? I would be happy to accompany you, if you’d have me.”

The calico stood and nodded, "I would be glad for your company. The stone around my neck needs replacing, as you can see. There has been some bad energies around as of late." None of the other cats understood what she meant when she talked about energies. But they were just that. Nothing more nothing less. Some brought positivity and some brought misfortune. This particular stone had done its job and now she would lay it to rest and find another to help protect her own energy and remain in balance. It was difficult to live a well balanced life if your energies were off kilter.
She led the way out of camp and into the morning air. It really was a nice day today and she tasted just a hint of rain way on the horizon. They would probably get rain later this evening but it was far off yet.
"Did you have any plans today?" She asked him with a smile. She sensed he could use a crystal to help him clear his mind and re-center himself. It would be a bit of a walk and it wasn't always the safest place, but wonderful all the same.
The tom shook his white furry head. "Today is one day where I have not a single task scheduled. I'm glad to be out of camp with company for a change." He tilted his head. "Your pendant, where did you find it?" He glanced at the she-cat at his side. "Only, it's been..." He trailed off. If he admitted what he was so close to revealing, it could change their entire dynamic. Perhaps she would think him strange and report his oddity to Weaselpaw. Though the medicine cat hadn't earned his full name just yet, the tom was still advanced enough in his learning to know what to do with a mentally deranged clanmate. How could one who knew he wasn't crazy explain he wasn't crazy without sounding crazy in the moment itself? He shook his head once more to clear the thoughts.
"I haven't seen one in my days." He glanced back at the stone. "It's quite a bit of power you have at your disposal."
