Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It had been three days since she'd seen a sign of another cat, much less scented a bunch of them. The scrawny ginger-and-white tabby sniffed at the border, looking back and forth along with a puzzled expression. She had never seen so many cats in one place before. Could there really be that many cats living here still? Where were they? She didn't see anyone racing to greet her, and Tangle frowned. How strange.
But, it had been so long since she had seen anyone else. Her travels were exciting, but they were lonely sometimes? Tangle sat up straight and decided the best thing to do was go meet these strangers right now and see just how friendly they were. If they all liked each other, they wouldn't notice one more, right? And so Tangle bounded into FallClan territory and started to trot through it, short tail lashing with excitement as she knelt to examine some very pretty flowers over here and a nice-smelling plant over there.
Maybe it was his SwiftClan upbringing, or his over all friendly demeanor, or the fact that the golden tabby had only just arrived in FallClan himself just a few days earlier, in pursuit of his wayward little sister but, something about the she-cat's eagerness to investigate the unknown territory caught his interest.
The tom left out a soft chuckle as he stepped out of the foliage, revealing himself to the ginger-and-white cat with ease.
"I would, be more careful around these parts. the cats here and in the surrounding territories don't usually take too kindly to... visitors."
Tangle lifted her chin as she turned to face him, not a trace of fear in her fern gaze. "I can handle myself," she assured him, strutting up to look him in the eye. "Who doesn't like visitors, anyway?"
Despite holding herself up very straight, Tangle quickly discovered that her march had been ill-conceived: now that she was close to him, she couldn't look the warrior in the eye. He was annoyingly large and she was on the smaller side. Instead of straining to look up, she huffed and glanced past him into the rest of the territory.
Unfazed by the she-cat's march he didn't so much as move as she stalked up to him, simply glancing down at her, a hit of a smile playing at his expression as he noted her frustration but otherwise kept a straight face.
"FallClan doesn't like visitors" he clarified. Though she wasn't looking at him directly, the golden warrior didn't take his eyes off her as he spoke, it was polite thing to do, in this situation or he thought it was anyway.
"I myself, don't mind visitors so much, however I still have to keep an eye out for them and make sure they don't show up uninvited, which is what I'm doing now."
"Well, FallClan can-" she started to mutter under her breath, cross, but was interrupted when the tom kept talking. Her tail tip twitched from side to side as she debated his words, tempted to just walk past him and keep going. What was he doing to do about it, chase her? He was big, she could sneak through some small gap and hide where he'd never be able to follow. It could be fun.
But it had been so long since she'd seen another cat, she didn't want to give up yet. Tangle took a few steps to the side so she could crane her neck and look him in the eye with a challenge in her own.
"You sure did find me," the loner agreed. "Now what? Are you gonna give me a lecture? At least let me catch something to eat first."
"Sadly, I'm afraid I can't let you do that." His tone was sympathetic but firm, making it clear that any chance of her being allowed to hunt on this territory was simply out of the question. As she side stepped him he made no attempt to move, his blue gaze following her movement with no sense of urgency or alarm. If there was one thing he'd been grateful for since joining this clan, it was that their rules were pretty close to home, as far as StarClan and the Warrior Code were concerned. That made things easier. His own nomadic upbringing however did not. He couldn't fairly judge this she-cat for hunting when and were she could, when he more or less did the same, albeit not technically on another clan's territory.
"If you come with me, I can give you something to eat, but for now I can't allow you to kill prey on this territory."
Her eyes narrowed in dislike at his tone. Oh, so now the big, brawny tom was going to try and stop her? That sounded like a challenge. "Well you don't have to let me do anything," she replied, slowly inching to the side. "You can just stay right here and I promise I won't run off and take any prey that has your scent marker on it."
What kind of cats tried to own prey? Honestly. Unless it danced toward him on command, it was free to take.
Tangle turned swiftly, darting past him and further onto FallClan land.
It was easy for Lionblood to not only catch up with the rogue she-cat but intercept her path as well. If there was one thing he learned growing up in SwiftClan it was that you needed to be able keep up. He knew it would bother her, already this interaction was going down a path he didn't like. If he didn't smooth things over, and quickly this could get ugly, and the last thing he wanted was a slighted she-cat hunting on FallClan's territory just to spite him.
"You're right, I don't have to let you, but I'm choosing to. Other cats on this mountain won't be as kind as I am so, please. Do us both a favor and lets just do this the easy way?"
Curse these short legs! Tangle narrowed her eyes as he stepped into her path, seriously contemplating just bowling through or jumping over him, but he was so big. In the end, she lashed her tail and planted her paws, stopping a foot away from him and leveling a look of mixed annoyance and confusion. She didn't understand why he was so determined to get in her way, but she did know it was getting on her nerves.
"Listen here," she began fiercely, "it isn't your choice where I hunt, it's mine, and --- wait, are you saying you will let me hunt?" Tangle stopped and narrowed her eyes at him. What kind of trick was this?
"That's exactly what I'm saying" he clarified, with a idle swish of his tail. "Or rather what I was trying to say, You can hunt if you like but you need to stay with me and don't let any cat see you, unless you want to be escorted back to my camp by those less friendly cat's i mentioned."
This conversation for the most part, was going nowhere fast but, he had hope that the stubborn she cat would agree to these terms. Admittedly he didn't enjoy the idea of playing look out so that an outsider could hunt on FallClan territory but he'd found himself in a situation where it was the best solution he could think of where everyone could somewhat get what they wanted.
Tangle considered, the tip of her tail switching from side to side. She didn't need his help. She could sneak around without being noticed by other cats or by him. But if he was willing to help her now, well, she wasn't going to throw that away. Tangle was proud but that didn't mean she had to antagonize him endlessly.
"Fine," she agreed with an assertive nod. "Are we hunting right here? What prey runs in these parts?"
"Squirrels, mice, chipmunks, probably a rabbit or two, various birds I'm sure just to name a few." It was hard for him not to crack a smile as he spoke, he really wasn't trying to be patronizing in this exact moment but, he just couldn't seem to turn it off. He'd be lucky if this she-cat didn't box his ears in when this was all over.
"Lead the way." he invited with a dramatic sweep of his tail, gesturing in the direction of the boarder. He wasn't trying to lead her out of the territory exactly, but if they were caught it would be easier to talk their way out of a bind if they weren't so far inside FallClan territory.
Tangle nodded, studying him with one last long look before she turned to go. She trusted him enough to let down her guard; most cats she'd known in her life were like her family, simple cats just working hard to get along, and they didn't fuss with all this border nonsense. The cats she grew up with never stabbed her in the back, and she had never considered they could.
As they headed back toward the border, she slowed her step, sensing prey nearby before she was fully aware it was there. She skimmed the branches and then the undergrowth, and finally, she spotted it: a bird on the ground already, hopping feebly but unable to take flights, looking thin and sickly beneath those blue and grey feathers. She licked her lips as she sprinted toward the weak prey, taking it down with ease.
