It was strange just how easy it was to navigate through the mountain clan territories as she made her way home, so many moons had passed she was sure that she would have forgotten the way, but it seems some things never truly leave us. Pollendrone tasted the air and quickly picked up the Summerclan scent, she had known no cats here in her time with the clans. With a cautious glance around she flicked her tail high in the air as a sort of signal and from the shadows a smaller she-cat appeared bouncing up to her side. "Now Sweet you must stay beside me and listen, do you understand? Taste the air and remember it well, this is Summerclan." She looked down at Sweet with a loving gaze awaiting her response to be sure she understood.
Sweet was a tiny thing, short in stature, almost the size of an older kit but atop her small frame was a coat of fluffy greys, blues, and oranges, a touch of white flowing through the mix. As she stood jittery beside Pollendrone listening and tasting the air, making a strange face as the clans scent hit her. "Okay Momma, I'll remember and don't worry I will listen so good!" She chirped, her paws prancing in place as if standing in one place was the hardest thing she had ever done. Sweet looked nothing like her mother, from her pelt to her unique eyes.. One was of solid amber while the other was split half amber half blue straight down the middle. "How close are we to Sunclan momma?" She looked up at Pollendrone with round eyes.
Pollendrone smiled and licked her daughters ear, happy she was trying so hard to do as she was told. "We still have a ways to go dear, this is mountain clan territory and we must get to the forest clans, but don't worry we will get there you must be patient though." She knew patience was a concept her child did not understand, but she did her best. "Come now, we must get through Summerclan before any cat finds us, it will make things much more difficult if we have to explain who we are and what we are doing." She nudged Sweet gently and without a thought the young cat began to quite literally bounce forward with her mother following closely beside her in a steady paced walk.

If there was one thing about Summerclan that was similar to Sunclan it was the heat. Scorchedwhisker twitched his whiskers as he made his way through the territory that would be his new home for a while. Or permanently, who knew. The Siamese tom wasn’t sure he wanted to go back to Sunclan. Not after everything that happened with Bloodycrow. He needed a break... so when Littlestar asked for Rays he was more than happy to volunteer. Of course his half-sister had volunteered along with him. Blissfulstorm was somewhere in Nightclan, no doubt tripping over her own paws and Scorchedwhisker was here. In the land of overbearing heat.
The cats in Summerclan were nice... maybe a little too nice. It was a stark contrast to Sunclan. Well except for Duskslayer and Pollendrone.
Scorchedwhisker felt his heart seize at the thought of the she-cat. After everything that happened she had just... disappeared... no one knew where she had gone. The last trace of her was a struggle at the Nightclan border according to her mate... maybe that was the real reason he left Sunclan. Maybe he didn’t want to be reminded of her every time he saw one of her kits. Every time he saw something that reminded him of her. It hurt too much, and he knew he shouldn’t feel that way. But he couldn’t help it. How could he? Even know he thought he could still...
Wait... the cream colored tom paused, his body frozen and tense. He wasn’t just imagining it. That was Pollendrone. He’d know her scent anywhere. But... how was that possible? No he had to be imagining it... right? Scorchedwhisker fumbled over his own paws as he forced himself into a run. He had to have been imagining it, he had to! Sun God above let it be a mistake. Was it really her? But then he stopped, digging his claws into the ground as he stood atop one of the many hills that littered Summerclan’s territory. Scorchedwhisker felt his jaw go slack, his eyes fixed on her form as she walked alongside a young kit. It was her...
Pollendrones focus was split between her daughter bouncing up and down and their surroundings, though it was more so on Sweet than anything as there was no telling when her eccentric child would take off. "Now Sweet, slow down a bit please." A sigh followed her words as like always they were ignored. Sweet proceeded to move faster, doing the exact opposite of what her mother had asked. So focused on not losing her daughter she almost missed the sound of her name coming from somewhere ahead, her ears flattened and her eyes scanned the area passing over Scorchedwhisker once before darting back. It wasn't possible, why was he here? Why did he of all cats find her? She was sure he would hate her after what had happened, and now learning she had left of her own accord. "Sweet, come here." Her throat was tight as she spoke, her eyes never leaving the tom.
Sweet stopped bouncing and looked at her mother before following her gaze that remained glued to the stranger, a happy smile still present on the young cats face. "Oh hi! Who are you? do you know my mom?" Pollendrones words fell on deaf ears as Sweet bounced toward Schorchedwhisker. "I'm Sweet, what's your name?"

Scorchedwhisker swallowed thickly. So she was alive... it really was her. Relief washed over him in waves. Pollendrone was alive. He should be happy, no he was happy...! But his relief and happiness faded away into anger. He felt it bubbling in his chest until his lip began to curl. Was that guilt in her eyes? Of course it was...because Pollendrone wasn’t taken, she wasn’t attacked.
She had left willingly. Why else would she be leisurely walking around Summerclan’s territory. Heading back towards Sunclan no doubt. Lionpride would be sure to welcome her warmly, more than thrilled to see her as he should. He was her mate after all. The cream tom looked down at the kit, Sweet, she had called herself. He remembered when she was born... it was a terrible night, Pollendrone nearly dying... the tom cat shook his head for a moment before answering.
“Scorchedwhisker.” He replied gruffly, before looking back up at Pollendrone with a narrowed gaze. “I used to be your mom’s friend... or so I thought.”
It didn't take long for Pollendrone to break free of her shock and move to her daughters side, curling her tail over her so she couldn't move closer. She watched as the happiness in her old friends eyes turned to anger and pain gripped her heart, she had done that, she was the cause of those emotions.
Sweet didn't move when her mother approached, simply smiled and nodded at Scorchedwhisker when he revealed his name and the fact that he had once been friends with her mom." Used to be friends? Aren't you still?" She tilted her head but before she could speak again she felt Pollendrones tail slip over her mouth.
"Honey, why don't you go over there and play.. but stay where I can see you." The serious gleam in her eyes was enough for Sweet to know she should listen, once the young she-cat was far enough away Pollendrone looked back at Scorchedwhisker. "I wasn't expecting to see you here.. Scorchedwhisker." There was a pause as she fought for words, seeing him again brought back a rush of emotion and the vivid memory of some of their last moments together. "I'm sorry." She knew it wouldn't be enough, but she had wanted for so long to apologize for what she had done. She didn't expect him to forgive her, she didn't deserve it but none the less she needed him to know she was sorry for everything.

“Yea well, I wasn’t expecting to see you ever again but here we are.” He hissed softly. Scorchedwhisker wanted to back away from her and leaving right then and there. But something compelled him to stay. He needed answers.
“I’m a ray now.” He said. “I got assigned to Summerclan. Oh your kids are doing great by the way. They’re apprentice’s now. Lionpride is still Lionpride, I’m sure he’ll be happy to see you again. Here I’ll escort you to the border.”
The cream tom turned quickly, unable to look at her. She had helped him open up a bit more and then... “You left... you left willingly... why? How... how could you?”
Her ears dropped at his hissed words and eagerness to get rid of her, but she couldn't blame him. "I.." The words wouldn't come out, and his questions filled the silence. She didn't know how to answer them, no matter what she said it would only lead to more pain but she knew he deserved answers. "I doubt I will be welcomed by any cat after what I did, I wouldn't blame them if they never forgave me but Sweet deserves to know where she came from, none of this was her fault and she should be with her family." Pollendrones brown eyes shifted to Sweet as she played happily by herself, something she did often due to their lifestyle.
"Scorchedwhisker.. What I did, the way I did it. It's hard to explain, I was in such a bad place then and even after I left it was some time before I was able to begin climbing my way out of it. I was so closed off, I was pushing everyone I loved away, Lionpride, my father.. You and I was refusing to be a mother to my children." Tears pricked in the corners of her eyes but she shook them away and continued. "At the time I felt as if I needed to leave, not for myself but for everyone else, I couldn't stand to be there the way I was knowing how wrong it was to feel and be doing what I was but not having the control to change the emotions that were causing it. I figured you all would be better off if I were just gone." Her eyes had since fallen to the ground, unable to look at him any longer. "I know I was wrong, but by the time I had begun to realize that I had been gone for so long I couldn't bring myself to return, but the older she got." She looked at Sweet once more. "The older she got the more I knew that I needed to return home, to give her a true home and a chance to have the best future."

He tried to listen to her words. He wanted the answer. But now that he had it... Scorchedwhisker wasn’t sure what to do with it. Was he any better? He had left his own mother and sister in Moonclan to find his father. He regretted it some days, especially when he thought about his initiation into the clan. So if he could understand on some level... why was he still so angry with her? The cream colored tom kept his gaze glued to his paws as he began to tear up bits of grass from the Earth.
“..Littlestar is back, so... I’m sure your mother-in-law will welcome you back with open arms.” The tom said gruffly. “Lionpride will be thrilled, I’m sure he’ll advocate for you or whatever it is mates do...”
Scorchedwhisker shook his head before he lifted it up once more. He barely glanced at her as he cleared his throat, taking a step away from her and creating space between them. “Call your daughter back. I’ll bring you both to the border, but that’s it. Summerclan already has two Sunclan cats living with them, they won’t be happy about two more.”
Pollendrone lifted a paw towards the tom as he stood and backed away, his tone and the stiffness in his body brought back memories of their meeting when he wanted nothing to do with her. It hadn't hurt then, but that was before she had fallen in love with him.. something she had never gotten the chance to say aloud. Her paw floated back to the ground and she stood as well, even though every part of her was screaming not to give up she knew she could not force this. "As long as they accept Sweet, that is all that matters. You don't need to guide us to the border Scorchedwhisker, I can get us there so you can return to your life and pretend this never happened." It was hard to think that he may actually go about his life pretending she had never returned, perhaps it would be easier if he had continued to think she was gone but they just had to run into each other.
"The last thing I wanted was to hurt you, I hope if anything you can believe that." With fresh tears gathering in her earth brown eyes she called her daughter back to her side, doing her best to hide the pain she was feeling from the young she-cat. As Pollendrone began to turn away from the large tom she gave him one final glance, a single tear sliding down her cheek and over the scar that graced it. "I love you, Scorchedwhisker." The words were soft, shaky as she fought to hold herself together, she wanted at least once to be able to say those words to him.

“But you did, Pollendrone...!” The words were out of his mouth before he could swallow them. “You left...! Without a word..! We all thought that you had died, and that... it killed me...! It killed me and it shouldn’t have...! I had to force myself to stay behind while... Lionpride, and your father and siblings all searched for you...! When... when they said they found blood by the Nightclan border... Selene above my entire world shattered... and I hated myself for it because I shouldn’t feel that way over just a friend...!”
Scorchedwhisker let out a frustrated hiss. This wasn’t fair... to either of them. He thought that he had gotten over his feelings for her, that he was finally ready to move on. But here she was, standing in front of him as real as ever. Now all of those feelings he had put aside for so long we’re suddenly resurfacing. The cream colored tom glanced back towards Pollendrone’s daughter before he finally turned his glassy blue gaze towards her.
“But you’re not a friend anymore... because you don’t love a friend the way that I love you... but I can’t love you, Pollendrone.” He whispered. “I want to... and maybe in a perfect world I could... but this isn’t a perfect world. It sucks, and its crap. Because you have to go back to Sunclan with your daughter. Where your mate and children are waiting for you..”
Her heart both shattered and swelled all at once, two such conflicting and strong emotions colliding together within. She stood there frozen for a moment, watching him until she could no longer take it. Her paws carried her right to him, invading the space he had once tried so hard to protect and would likely try to protect now but she did not care in that moment as she embraced him. "No world is perfect, not this one nor the one of the past. There is no such place but who ever said there had to be?" She was still holding him as she spoke, unwilling to let go and give him the chance to retreat. "The world we live in does not decide who we get to love, and in this incredibly imperfect world it is you who I will always love."

Scorchedwhisker watched her for a minute, unsure of what she would do. When Pollendrone took a step towards him, he took a step back. But he couldn’t run from her. Not anymore. The moment her paws wrapped around him the siamese tom let out a shaky breath he didn’t know he was holding. Scorchedwhisker pinned his ears back against his head as he buried his head into her fur. It was the words that he wanted to hear from her... This wasn’t Bloodycrow’s world anymore, he couldn’t force her to be with anyone she didn’t want to.
Forget Sunclan... stay here...
Scorchedwhisker wanted to say those words. He wanted to hold her here with him forever. The cream colored tom wrapped a paw around her, hugging her tightly. He wouldn’t let her go. Not again. But there was another tom she loved too.
“But there is another...” He muttered, lowering his paw. “Lionpride is waiting for you... you love him too... you have a family together... and we both know you won’t leave him there alone. We both know that you won’t hurt him...”
Pollendrone melted against him as he curled his own paw around her, she didn't ever want it to end but she grew cold as his paw lowered. "Lionpride..." She repeated his name softly as she too lowered her paws from around Scorchedwhisker. "You are right, I do love him.. but my love for him was always different. I don't want to hurt him and I do need to return to Sunclan, the others need to know." She was so conflicted, she wanted to stay here with him but that would defeat the reason she was returning in the first place.
"Scorchedwhisker, I don't want to hurt you either, or leave you here alone." What could she do, split between two places, two choices and she couldn't have them both. responsibility or selfishness. She knew what she needed to do, she had chosen herself once before and it hurt so many. "I don't want to lose you again."

“Bet you wish we lived in that perfect world now, huh...” He sighed as he attempted to make a small joke. Scorchedwhisker tried to smile at her, but it only looked as though he were curling his lip. There was nothing to smile about. The choice was obvious wasn’t it? She had a family with Lionpride, her children were in Sunclan... her daughter deserved to know her siblings and her father.
“I really wish things were different, Pollendrone...” Scorchedwhisker whispered. “I really do... I want to tell you to stay. Forget Sunclan, just stay here with me... we could be together here in Summerclan and no one would be the wiser. Screw the others... But I can’t say that. What I can say is that... I’d wait for you again... A moon, a season... I would wait a lifetime for you, and that doesn’t make it easier I know it doesn’t. But it’s a good thing that right now, it’s just us. Only us.”
"You're right, that doesn't make this easier..." She let out a soft sigh and rubbed a paw over her face, things weren't supposed to be this difficult but what did she really expect would happen. "I can't ask you to wait for me though, but I also can't stop you if that is what you decide to do. I can tell you that this isn't over, and I wont give up.. not again." with that she leaned forward and touched her nose to his for the briefest of moments before pulling away again. She had to get back to Sunclan first, there was so much she had to take care of there before she made any major decisions about the future.
Pollendrone wasn't ready to say farewell just yet, and the sun would begin it's decent in the sky soon. "Is there a place around here Sweet and I could stay for the night?"
