Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Divinefavor had been thinking about this for a long time. The moment that she found out the truth of her birth - that she'd been stolen away from her real parents and raised by those very thieves - she felt as if a darkness in her heart had been unleashed with nothing to keep it at bay. She knew that all cats had bad days somethings. It was natural, a given. But, as the days turned to weeks and weeks into moons, she felt no relief. No matter how hard Divinefavor tried to be open hearted and friendly, most interactions ended up the same: One cat frustrated and the other hurt.
This couldn't be normal, could it?
Sighing loudly, the red-and-white she-cat poked her head into Brakwing's den. She hesitated to call out but eventually cleared her throat, "Brakewings, are you around?"
Cleaver you have to reply & Faith since I'm sure Fairytalehunt is probably around, you are allowed to ignore tho & Divine will ask him to leave anyway xD
"He's going to take a moment," Fairytalehunt alerted Divinefavor, "If it's urgent I can tend to you, though," He assured her.
Even after Goldenstar let Glowstar back into control Fairytalehunt had remained something of a medicine cat apprentice. He assisted a bit more than the typical chores of gathering herbs and seemed to actively give advice to Brakewings. Even though he didn't have medicine cat apprentice in his title he definitely had the confidence of one, maybe a little too much of one at times. But many assumed he had just thrown himself into his work after his boyfriend Buzzingswarm was killed in battle.
Hearing his name, the ginger tom emerged from the back of the stores, his fur scruffy and covered in a fine layer of dust. "Oh, hey Divinefavor," he greeted, looking her rapidly up and down to confirm she wasn't on the verge of death, and she didn't seem out of breath to have come from a body. "I'm just tidying up back here; give me a few minutes."
Satisfied that Fairytalehunt could handle the situation now that it wasn't life and death, he disappeared back into his task.
Divinefavor had to stop her fur from bristling when Fairytalehunt appeared. It wasn't that he was upset with him or didn't like him, he just wasn't who she wanted to see. In fact, she was sort of mortified that any member of her family would find out that she came to visit Brakewings period, much less for the true reason she was here.
Uncharacteristically, she broke eye contact with her brother and had to look away. Ashamed.
"It's not urgent," The ginger-and-white she-cat said, reflexively taking a step toward the exit. This was very, very uncharacteristic of her. She was normally very confident borderline abrasive but at the moment she looked like a kit afraid that she was about to get caught in the middle of some scheme, "Look, if Brakewings is busy, I'll just come back later..."
Fairytalehunt was silent, observing her with little interest before catching the look of shame reflected in her gaze, "Oh Divine, you're pregnant? With some, what? Outsider mongrel who doesn't even have the decency to move into DayClan to look after you. I swear a she-cats greatest natural predator in this family are toms, sucking every powerful trait out of our she-cats. I mean just looking at Fallingleaves, I've never seen her in a lower state, poor thing," He reminisced, already looking certain that he had things figured out.
Brakewings kept one ear primed toward the pair and it quickly became clear he was not going to be able to finish his task. Whatever Divinefavor came for was urgent, but private, and Fairytalehunt was being... well, just like Fairytalehunt, these days. The ginger tom sighed as he abandoned his herbs and slipped back to the front of the den.
"Fairytalehunt," he warned, a growl edging his tone, but as he met the tom's gaze he changed his mind about what he was going to say. He just sighed a little and replied, "Thank you for keeping an eye out. I can take it from here." Brakewings turned his attention back to Divinefavor, dipping his head in a more proper greeting.
"Why don't we take a walk and talk about what's going on?"
Divinefavor was first totally caught off guard, then embarrassed and, lastly, enraged. She felt her face go beet red and dug her claws into the dirt as to not swipe that cocking look off Fairytalehunt's face.
"What!? I--- No! I'm not like that!"
Did he really think she, of all cats, would pull a stunt like Fallingleaves had?! The idea that any one of her family members would group her together with that particular sister made the pit in her stomach grow even bigger. Luckily Brakewings came to the rescue and interrupted her thoughts before they got the better of her.
"............................................................................................. okay." She replied to Brakewings finally and, before the medicine cat could respond, she turned around and exited the den just as swiftly as she had appeared. She assumed he would follow.
"I'll finish clearing up the herbs I was working with when I come back," he murmured to Fairytalehunt, then followed after Divinefavor.
He was quiet as they made their way through the camp. It was strange to be alone with her, but it felt inevitable as well: he worked with Fairytalehunt, he was friends with Harvestcharm, he had spent a little time with Sweetwheat and she didn't appear to hate him, and now that Fallingleaves had kittens they would be meeting more often. It was only natural that he met the rest of the litter, but still, he was not sure what to expect from her.
Once they were far enough from the camp, he glanced over at her as they walked and gently prompted, "what's troubling you, Divinefavor? Are you injured?" He didn't see any external injuries from a cursory glance, but she could be hiding them.
"No. Well, I mean, sort of," Divinefavor wasn't sure how exactly to phrase what was ailing her, but there was certainly pain in those heterochromic eyes, a pain she usually disguised as aloofness or anger. She took a deep breath to psyche herself up and then finally came clean, "Something's wrong with me. I don't think I can be happy the way things are now, and don't say I'm just having a hard time or a phase or whatever, because ever since I've been an apprentice I've felt this way. Autumngossamer once told me that there was a history of anxiety and depression in our family. I think I have something like that... do you think you can help me?"
Yellowmoon had not cared enough to prepare him for emotional wounds. Flyingcolors had tried, but it was tricky, and he simply didn't listen to her in those days. She had been a stranger, she meant very little to him compared to the mentor leading him into his vast and important destiny. So to say he was in untested waters here was an understatement.
"It is possible," he began carefully, "I do have some herbs that might help take the edge off... but if there is something else causing those feelings, herbs won't treat every ailment. Are you sure you aren't just upset with how your life has gone?"
"If you aren't going to take this seriously, then all we are doing is wasting time," She snapped at him finally, tail lashing in anger. Something about what Brakewings had said really pissed Divinefavor off, that much was for sure, "Of course I'm upset with how my life has gone. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Now what?"
Brakewings ear twitched. "That not that I meant," he grumbled. "I just mean... if you're just being moody, I can't treat that with herbs, you just need someone to talk you through it. But if there's something wrong with your mind, I can give you herbs for that. I just need to know what I'm looking for so I can help you properly."
