Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The lightning split the sky the same instant thunder roared overhead, and Crownglass flinched away from the blinding flash. His vision flashes white and red as he looked up again, blinking hard. The storm raged on around them, wind whipping past as he struggled to continue on, rain lashing his fur to his sides. The black tom panted hard as he stopped to look back at his companion. He'd invited Poisonrush on this patrol to try and continue the friendship they'd started to nurture, but he hadn't noticed the weather would fall to pieces so swiftly.
"We need to find Seablossom!" Crownglass shouted. His mate had come with them but they had separated to hunt, and now she was out there alone. She must be nearby somewhere, right? He lifted his head, determined to find her before they went back to safety. There was no way he was leaving without her.
As the warrior continued to search, he hurried through the trees, hoping to catch a glimpse of her fur. "Seablossom?" he called out her name but was immediately drowned out by a violent crack. White light exploded around him as the lightning struck. Crownglass flew back across the clearing and rolled to a halt, heat sizzling through his fur as he cried out in agony.
tl;dr crown has been struck by lightning. help him :c paopLuto
Seablossom was only a few yards ahead of them when the storm rolled in. Problem was, she wasn’t aware that they’d move snotty when she’d moved west in her hunting. Thus separating herself from the group when chasing down a squirrel. The rain started as Crownglass called out, and was promptly drowned out by the storm. The white she-cat was unaware of what’s happened, that her beloved mate had just been struck by the storm itself. Luckily the warrior was already hurrying to return to the group when she caught sight of the lightning striking the ground. It only caused her pace to increase, wishing to get back to the other two and then home or to safety as quickly as possible. No point staying out in this type of storm, she thought.
Poisonrush was expecting rain, given the dark clouds when his group left camp, but he wasn't expecting a full thunderstorm. He was caught off guard by the bright flash that came with lightning strike following by a loud boom of thunders, overloading his sense of sight of hearing. He staggered a bit, trying his best to recover. Although his eyes and ears were out of commission, his sense of smell still functioned. And something smelled like it was...burning? Once his everything cleared up, he looked around and could hear the sound of Crownglass wailing. Running toward him, he yelled, "Crownglass, are you okay?"
Crownglass screeched his throat raw until he saw Poisonrush headed his way; then his voice tapered away into silence. "I--"
Was he okay? The black tom closed his eyes, wiggling his toes one by one and slowly working his way up until he was certain his body was miraculously not too badly damaged. He still hurt; his paws felt weak and the fur on his side was partially scorched away to reveal the burned flesh beneath. His eyes hurt, his ears barely worked, but he was alive.
"I think so," the warrior murmured finally. He said it again, louder. "I'm okay!"
That was the scene that Seablossom found her two companions in. From where she was, she was unable to hear her mate speak, but she could see Poisonrush hurrying to his side. Terror seized her heart, nearly locking she run place. The white she-cat could only stare on as she took in the site of her injuries mate. For a moment, she believed the worst causing tears to begin cascading down her face. The distance form herself to Crownglass’ side seem so far away, too far for her to cross in her moment of grief. But she had too. She had to be there by his side, she had to move. Forcing her paw into motion, slowly at first and then into a run, she crossed to his side. Once there, she paused, slowing back into a walking, holding her breathing and prayer that not another rod her family had been taken form her.
Poisonrush believed him but he had to make sure. Checking Crownglass over, he made sure there wasn't anything the tom may have missed. There were some scorch marks on the tom's pelt but nothing was out of the ordinary that he could tell. Noticing Seablossom coming toward them, he could see the panic in her eyes. She must be worried, he thought.
"Hey, don't worry. He seems to be fine." he reassured the she-cat. At least on the surface, that is. "Are you able to get up, Crownglass? We're still out in the open and anything could happen. We need to find shelter."
He held still as Poisonrush looked him over, hardly daring to believe it himself. How could he still be okay? Not just alive, but barely hurt? It must be the shock, he just hadn't realized how messed up he was... but Poisonrush thought he was fine too. Maybe, just maybe. He tensed his muscles, preparing to try and stand up, but then he caught sight of his mate and his heart seized a little at the look on her face.
Crownglass staggered to his paws and fell in her direction, unsteady on his feet, but as he tumbled ungracefully back to the ground it was beside her. "Hey, I'm okay," he murmured fiercely, his voice shaking with effort as he pushed himself back up and nuzzled under her chin, "I'm not leaving you yet. I'm okay."
He leaned into her, needing the support to stand right now, but turned his head to look back at the aurulent, offering him a small nod of acknowledgment. They needed to get out of the rain. He just wasn't sure he could make it alone. His legs were jittery. Wrong. He needed rest but they couldn't stop here.
Seablossom was practically in hysterical when she rushed to her mate’s side as he fell again when trying to get up. Poisonrush had spoken to her her just before that, but she’d barely heard hind her head in a fog of “what if’s” and “please no’s!”. She sobbed by him, burning her tear soaked and rain socked face into his chest fur, uncaring and I processing the storm raging around them. A pop of thunder, a crackle of lightning a bd her head was shooting up fear taking over again. “Nice. We..we have to move!” She was starting to panic, especially at the thought of another strike their way. Her seaform green eyes darted towards Poisonrush, “help me move him. We have to move.” The ex-EarthClan leader wasn’t even looking for shelter, just focusing on the thought of moving, getting anywhere but where they currently were. She was panicking, and couldn’t think properly. Her mate was injured, seriously at that, even if he didn’t seem it. A lightning strike was normally fatal, so that’s how she was seeing if. Her mind raced with the thought, please not him too! Please! You’ve taken my daughter, my children, my siblings. Please not him too!
"Seablossom!" Poisonrush yelled over the sound of the roaring rain, sensing her panicking. "You've got to calm down. I understand how you're feeling but we need to find shelter and get out of this storm. With a quick survey of their surroundings, there weren't many options for them to go. He considered trying to make the trip back to camp but they were too far out. They needed to find somewhere dry. His eyes lit up with a sudden realization.
"There's a cave not too far from here we can go to, but we-" His words were cut off by a sudden flash of lightning and another booming thunderclap. "We need to get there quickly, but safely." he finished saying. Supporting the other side of Crownglass, he motioned for them to go. "Let me know if the move is becoming too much for you so we can stop." Although he didn't find anything immediately on the tom, he would have to make sure Weaselpaw saw to him first thing when they returned.
Crownglass flinched at the thunder overhead, and he wasn't sure if the rumbling he felt was the earth or himself trembling. He took a jagged breath and tried to listen to the others. "A cave. A cave," he mumbled, nodding limply in agreement. He rose unsteadily to his paws, leaning on Poisonrush and his mate, and stumbled forward one slow step at a time. It was tedious progress, but when he tried to most faster, he fell. Still, he pushed himself back up and went on.
"Don't push yourself too hard, Crownglass. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. We'll get where we need to go soon enough," he said pressing up aginst the tom to provide more support. One thing that did worry him was for how much the storm would last. We should be out of it for the most part right?
With torrential rain coming down on them, he felt heavier and his pelt stung with each drop. Luckily for them though, the cave Poisonrush mentioned earlier was just in sight. "There it is!" he yelled over the rain as he began to guide his companions toward it.
His ear twitched back in acknowledgment, though the motion was lost in the rain as he limped onward. Poisonrush might be right, but he wanted to get out here sooner rather than later. He could have cried in relief when the cave came into sight.
"Finally," Crownglass gasped. As they neared the camp, he moved with new energy, quickly shuffling forward and into safety. pao
Seablossom had remained quiet the whole trip, her eyes solely focused on her mate and barely taking in the area round her. But at the idea of a cave, of shelter from this horrible storm, she'd calmed some, but only some. She still wanted to race back home, back to camp and bring the medicine cat to her mate's side. It would have to wait though, the storm wasn't anywhere close to stopping. The she-cat practically pushed her mate inside and against one of the walls, curling into his side, and calming just a little bit more at the idea that they were at least safe for the time being.
Crownglass's wet paws stumbled on the slick cave floor and he leaned heavily against Poisonrush for support. He took another deep, staggered breath as Seablossom urged him in further, and finally, he collapsed against the wall. He curled up around Seablossom and buried his dark face in her fur, his heart still hammering in pace with the rainstorm.
"Thank you," he gasped to his friend, peering up at him past his mate. "I'll... I'll be okay." He wished he sounded more confident.
Poisonrush nodded his acknowledgement, although there was a bit of doubt in the tom's words. "Seablossom, make sure you keep an eye on him," he said as he left the couple. "If you need me, I'll be at the entrance of the cave to see when the rain stops and we can head back."
Crownglass's golden gaze betrayed his nerves as the aurulent left them alone. He had never been good at hiding his emotions, but he knew it was necessary now; he couldn't let his mate get too stressed. She'd had such a hard time lately with her missing brother. "Let me help dry you off," he murmured, starting to groom between her ears. "I don't want you getting cold."
I’m all honesty, she shouldn’t be surprised she was his first concern. It’d always been that way with them. Seablossom was panicking and crying, upset by what had happened and her mate was caring for her even though he’s the one injured. She returned the favor, trying to keep her mind from the thoughts of all she’d lost recently and that’s he could have lost him as well. The she-cat wanted to call out to Poisonrush in hopes the rains would stop, but she knew that they wouldn’t for a while. “I should be helping you” the words were practically a cry as she tried drying and warming him as quickly as possible.
“I’m okay. I don’t need help,” he assured. Crownglass wasn’t sure that was true, but she wasn’t a medicine cat, so there was nothing she could do. “We just need to… to wait out the rain.”
