Netherpaw stood at the edge of the lake, watching him as if he had a bird on his head. "What are you doing in there? You're going to drown." He stepped away from the edge nervously. Summerclan was known for their land cats, not water cats. Even being this close made him nervous, he didn't undertsand how Thorn jumped in there. It was a little irnoic how he seemed to be so unafraid of moving, living creatures but the thought of even putting his paws in that lake terrified him.
"Im hot so im cooling off. what you cant swim?" he said getting out of the water and shaking it all off. he sat down and started to clean his fur. " I can teach you if you want." he got up and layed in the shade under a bush "im sure all your friends would be shocked if a summerclan cat like you could swim" he said laying his head down to rest.

"I don't know about that, is swimming something you can learn?" He asked, leaning forward to sniff at the water, reatracting quickly as if he'd been bite when it touched him. "Isn't it something you're supposed to know when you're born?" He'd never learned of a cat suddenly learning to swim. Then again, he had heard of cats joining clans who did a lot of swimming.
"Well i learned didn't i? plus i don't think every kit just knows how to swim. Its a lot of fun to swim" he said lifting his head up. "why don't you think about while i sleep and when i wake up if you want me to teach you I will" he plopped his head back down and faded into sleep.

He stared at the sleeping tom, unsure of what to think. The apprentice let out a long yawn and stretched, maybe he should take a nap himself. All this running around and saving ungrateful rogues made him completely exhausted. He padded over and curled up next to the tom, not quite touching but close enough to be comfortable, and fell asleep quickly. He dreamed of battles and adventures and, for the first time, swimming.
thornstep woke up to find a sleeping apprentice next to him. he was a little shocked but didnt want to wake him up. he got up quietly so he didnt wake up netherpaw. he stepped away slowly and decided to go get some food. when he came back the apprentice was still asleep so he ate a little for himself and left the rest for netherpaw for when he woke up.

He stretched lazily as he woke up from his nap, blinking the sleep out of his eyes as he spotted Thorn. "Afternoon, sleep beauty." He grinned as if he hadn't slept far longer than the other tom. The smell of fresh prey caught his attention and his mouth watered. He was absolutely famished. He eyed the left over prey and looked up at the tom, "You gonna finish that or can I?"
"I left it for you otherwise i would have eaten it. Did you ever figure out if you wanted to learn to swim or not?" he said ignoring the ''sleeping beauty'' comment. "It would be a lot of fun you know..something to show off to your friends and clan mates." he got up and stepped back into the lake again looking at netherpaw.

He made a good point... his littermates would probably be impressed if he learned how to swim, maybe even his mentor too.... "Deal! Let me eat first I'm starving," He crouched over the prey, eating it quickly. He was a lot hungrier than he thought. Netherpaw licked his paws a few times, not worrying too much about the prey smell on him. The water should wash it away quickly.
he smiled a bit stepping closer to the edge. " cmon you need to get used to the way the water feels first then ill show you how to swim" he said as he stepped in the water. it only went to the top of his so it shouldn't be very deep for nether paw.

He stepped out hesitantly. He slammed his eyes shut. Netherpaw, for the first time, was truly scared. One paw, two, three paw, four paw. He opened his eyes. "Huh, not so bad." The apprentice murmured quietly. Taking a few more steps until it reached his joints. "It's a little cold but it's not bad. I thought it would be awful." The black tom admitted with a grimace. What a kit he was!!
"See its not bad. here ill hold you just paddle your paws" he said. He grabbed netherpaw by the scruff and pulled him out a bit holding his head above water. "just paddle your paws and your basically swimming.

Its was awkward and sloppy as he tried to paddle. He yowled, feeling like he was falling and knocking his legs against Thorn more than once. "I cant- I cant-!" He panicked, flailing in the water before finally getting his bearings. His breathing slowed a bit and he held his head up. His feet were clumsy but at least they were moving through the water finally. It felt strange.
He held on tightly to netherpaw as not to drop him in the water. as soon as he felt confident in netherpaw he let go without saying anything. he didnt think netherpaw noticed because as he backed up the apprentice was doing it on his own.

Netherpaws was so concentrated on what he was doing he had no clue he was doing it on his own. His brows were furrowed and he splashed around a little clumsily. "I'm doing it!" He shouted, turning to look at Thorn. Then realized he wasn't there. The Tom panicked a bit and his head dipped under the water. Panic drove through him as he floundered to the surface and took a took gulp of air only to be met eith coughing.
he rushed out of the water and over to nether. "what happened you were doing so well?" he said standing next to the soaking wet apprentice not knowing what to do. " i only let go because you were doing fine alone. you could have done it perfectly if you didn't panic." he looked at the apprentice laying on the ground "hello?"

The apprentice lay in the sand for a few minutes, gulping down the harsh air. He felt too weak to lift his head. "You didn't tell me you weren't going to let go of me!" He protested rather weakly.. he felt like he could sleep for days now.
" you were doing fine buy your self so i let go. why don't you go get us some food and if you want when you come back we can try again" he said shaking the water out of his fur. he lay down flexing his claws into the ground feeling kinda bad for letting go of him. he seemed to grow soft spot for the big apprentice but he didn't know why "why this one..so many others why him?" he thought to himself as he stare at the ground. netherpaw was rambling about something but he wasent listening he just got up and walked away without saying a word. he jumped up a tree and just sat on one of the branches looking over all the land.

Netherpaw stuck his tongue out at Thorn when his back was turned. It was a good reason but it didn't change the fact that he'd almost just drowned! He sighed, cleaning himself up a bit before going to catch some prey. He brought back a squirrel and a mouse, setting them down near the tree Thirn was in. "You going to come down to eat, old man, or do I need to throw it up to you?" He grinned up at him, his bad mood having mostly subsided.
he rolled his eyes and jumped down from the tree. he sat across from nether and started eating the mouse. "don't call me that quill face" he said pulling apart the mouse as he ate. "im going to sleep" he said getting up and going to lay under a bush. " are you going back home?" he asked sleepily before he put his head down.
