Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Softpelt went over to the medicine cat den, carrying some tansy she'd found. "Hello?" She called. It felt like only yesterday this den had been hers, shared with Fawnheart. The pair had worked well together...
But Softpelt had to step down, otherwise her terrible secret would get out.
But in truth Softpelt wondered if it was for the best, she was older than Fawnheart after all, and seeing young Sakurapaw blossom into a medicine cat was a treat.
Though Softpelt hadn't had a chance to speak with the apprentice, she knew Fawnheart was an excellent cat to work alongside, and would be an excellent teacher for the young she cat.
A furry white head popped out of the shadows, rose and lilac eyes blinking in surprise at the visiting she-cat. A smile broke out on her face, the movement of the corners of her mouth causing the black heart shaped mark over one eye to morph into an odd shape.
"Softpelt!"
Since becoming medicine cat apprentice, Sakurapaw had tried her best to become familiar with her clanmates – after all, she was meant to take care of them and it wouldn't do anyone any good if she hadn't a clue about who they were as people or their ailments. Padding from the shadows, her eyes caught the tansy and they brightened.
"Perfect! I was just about to go and find some, you beat me to it." She laughed quietly. "How are you doing?"
Softpelt chuckled. "Oh I'm doing all right," She said waving her tail dismissively. "Just thought I'd check in on you, Fawnheart's been singing your praises and I know she made a good choice in picking you. Would you mind letting this old cat lend you some company?"
It was so easy to play off her stepping down as her recognizing that as she'd been older than Fawnheart it was better she take a young cat under her wing.
Her white fluffy chest puffed out in pride at the indirect praise, dipping her head a bit in embarrassment. Truthfully she wasn't entirely sure she'd even been making any headway with Fawnheart, outside of training the two hadn't interacted a whole lot. Hearing from the she-cat's own former apprentice, though, felt like it had to be the truth, right? She smiled slightly up at the other.
"Of course, I'd love some company! To tell you the truth, it gets a little lonely sometimes, so I'd love to have some time where I'm not on my own." She grinned. "What have you been up to lately?"
"Getting back in the swing of being a warrior." Softpelt said with a chuckle. "It's a bit of an adjustment after being a medicine cat for so very long." She admitted softly, trying not to sigh.
She did so miss healing. But it was what she had to do, she would've had to give up healing regardless of what path she'd chosen.
"But I like that I can still gather herbs every so often so if you need something in particular don't hesitate to let me know." She told Sakurapaw with a warm smile as she continued to help with sorting.
"Yeah, I'm sure," she blinked with a small scrunch to her nose. Though outwardly she tried to convey a sense of sympathy for the other she-cat, internally...
"You're free to help me out anytime." She smiled at her. "I like the companionship. Besides, it can get overwhelming for me still... I'm not sure that'll ever go away honestly." She sighed.
Softpelt rested her tail on Sakurapaw's flank. "You'll get used to it, you have a great mentor in Fawnheart." She assured the young apprentice.
"As you keep practicing you'll get a better feel for things, you'll have Fawnheart to turn to, you can come to me, and there's a few other cats who have dabbled a little in herbs." The white she cat added.
The white she-cat gazed at the other with seemingly stars in her eyes, completely taken with the older warrior. The offer of companionship, support, and the ability to learn about healing from someone other than her mentor was something she wouldn't be able to reject, not unless she felt it necessary or made merely out of kindness rather than any genuine desire to help her.
"Thank you, it means a lot." She smiled. "Who else has dabbled?" She asked after a moment's thought, tilting her head.
