Watermelonpaw padded into camp like he was real hot stuff. Wrapped around his body was a massive rattlesnake that easily weighed half as much as he did if not more, the head of which was nearly totally cut off and dangling over his shoulder like a weird taxidermy pendant.
"Me and my sis-I mean mentor, Ferventprayer, snuck up on this RATTLESNAKE and killed it," He threw the serpent onto the center of camp making a big scene about it. He then picked up its tail and shook it vigorously, causing it to rattle, "It was a vicious, long drawn out battle! We both almost died several times! BUT! SINCE WE WON, LET'S HAVE A RATTLESNAKE PARTY!"

Ferventprayer walked behind her little brother, letting him have the limelight. Even though she had killed the snake, she wanted him to have this moment. Something that he could show off to his friends, and smile about. He had been through a lot and deserved a little bit of fun, even if it was based on a little white lie. Jetclaw
Watermelonpaw shook the rattle a couple more times and finally managed to dislodge it from the snake. He dropped it just about as soon as he managed to do that and started batting at it playfully, enjoying the weighted feeling it had as well as the fascinating sound it made. He batted it between his paws a couple times before punting it toward Ferventprayer with a big smile on his face, "Hey, hit it back!"

Ferventprayer was about to leave and let her apprentice have his moment when suddenly the rattle came flying at her. She batted it back out of pure instinct, the loud sound sure to wake up all the warriors who were always listening for rattle snakes to keep the camp safe.
Perfectstorm was the first Warrior to take alert to the tell-tale sounds of a rattlesnake. The massive silver-furred tom acted on instincts and thrust himself between Ferventprayer and the serpent's corpse, barring his fangs at the creature, "How did this----!?" He began to say just as the rattle hit him right in the left eye ball. Hissing he dropped to the ground to 'dodge' the second attack that never camp.

"It's dead, mouse-brain..." Watermelonpaw said with a bit of a nervous laugh. His playful stance turned much more formal - it was clear that he wasn't that comfortable around his older brother and he wasn't the only one in the camp with those feelings.

Ferventprayer moved to put herself between the two "Sorry hes young" before turning back to her apprentice" How about you grab some of your friends and go outside of camp? There is a lot more room to play there" before looking back at Perfectstorm hoping that would appease his anger
Watermleonpaw's tail dropped and he looked absolutely crestfallen. He'd been so eager to show of this rattlesnake kill, but no one else seemed to share his excitement, in fact he'd managed to upset his mentor and their scary brother.
"Okay, Ferventprayer." He replied solemnly and padded away, making not effort to gather up other apprentices as he did so.

Perfectstorm's fur was just starting to smooth down as the red-and-white apprentice padded away. He was still a bit high from the sudden adrenaline and now very embarrassed about the whole misunderstanding, but mostly he was angry that it happened at all.
"What were you thinking, Ferventprayer? That snake may be dead, but it can very well still kill a cat... Not to mention that many SunClan cats have lost loved ones to snake bites! At best this was insensitive, at worst downright cruel. You're his mentor. You need to teach him these things!"

"What about fun, and curiosity?" she shot back at him, her fur rising a little bit as she snapped back at her brother, turning her back on him to go after Watermelonpaw "You are always so quick to judge others, but I don't have time to talk to you right now. He needs me more" she shot out after the young cat, until she had caught up "Watermelonpaw, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have let you take that into camp. That was my fault not yours... I just... You were so excited, and I haven't seen you smile like that since..."
"You know it's not that simple, Ferventprayer," Perfectstorm growled, his entire body statue-still except for his tail-tip that twitched ever so slightly, betraying his anger. He likely would have continued longer had his sister not got up to leave. He made no effort to follow her. Instead, chewed through the remaining tendril that connected the head of the snake to its body and padded away toward the High Priestess's den. Dangerous as it was, even Perfectstorm knew it had potential medicinal uses.

"You aren't already done talking with big brother...?" Watermelonpaw asked, clearly surprised to see Ferventprayer back at his side so soon. The apprentice quickly wiped away the tears at the corner of his eyes and acted as if there were never there, "No, don't take the blame. I heard what Perfectstorm said and he was right. I was being... childish. I wasn't thinking about... I mean, yeah. Anyway... I... I don't know what to say. I just don't want to talk about this anymore."

Ferventprayer wanted to just pull him close, but it would only serve to make the situation worse. How did she explain to him that is was ok to be immature at his age? That she didn't want him to grow up to fast? To have that weight on his young shoulders before he was ready "Well I think Perfectstorm was just being salty, because he didn't catch the snake" she bumped his shoulder playfully "You really shouldn't take anything he says to seriously, or he'll have your head filled with all sorts of nonesense"
"No, I won't dismiss Perfectstorm," Watermelonpaw replied, tensing up slightly although he wasn't be aggressive or anything, just honest, "He's a smart tom and that's why what he says hurts so bad. He's right and I was wrong. I'm not gonna ignore someone just because I don't like what they say or the way they said it, that's what Bloodystar did... And I'm not my father."
