Pickles opened her jaw and lifted her muzzle, scenting the area for anything unusual. There was the stink of two legs around and not much else. Two legs were easy to deal with as long as you avoided them. She had been around these areas for so long it was easy for her to avoid them and get what she wanted - big, fat mice. First she would scout the area and be sure they weren't around. This was much bigger than the areas she'd been to before so she wondered if she should've brought some help, but at this point it was too late to turn back. Most of the other warriors were too afraid of two leg areas to go near them on top of it. She wanted nothing to do with the disgusting creatures but found areas they inhabited to be rich with prey, mice in particular. She had no interest in the tasteless pellets they would put out and she carefully avoided the traps they seemed to think were clever.
The nice thing about dealing with two legs is as long as she was quick and her claws were sharp she had a good chance.
Pickles wasn't sure what possessed her to join a clan but she was terrible with the other cats. Her tongue seemed to be tied more often than not. She had been alone for so long, maybe that's what possessed her to join, but she had been struggling since joining. It was the first time she'd seen such big family units in one place and so many friends. She had made a passing friend here or there but never held a strong bond with another cat. It was strange to watch. It was crowded and stressful sleeping in the den with all the other cats so she had found a nice spot on the edge to get some space.
The brown she-cat shook her head clear of thoughts and began to scout the area, checking for two-legs, traps, and mice.
After having been told time and time again not to come to this place, Vulturepaw couldn't help it. He knew there were valuable herbs in the twoleg's gardens and he wasn't about to let his Clan suffer from his mentor being to much of a coward to come and search for them here. Sure, they didn't need them right now, but who could say they wouldn't need them in the future. Especially the catmint.
He had just come across the scent of a patch when he caught the scent of a Clanmate, his hackles rising. Not wanting to be caught, yet wondering whom else could be out here, Vulturepaw ducked into the shadows and tried his best to become indivisible.

She continuously sniffed the area as she prowled the property. It seemed clear, all smell of two legs appeared to be at least a day old. Wonderful. The back area was full of mice stuffed fat even through the winter. She had seen this many times - they loved to eat the food of other animals that two-legs kept and would use it to keep themselves fat year round. It was really an amazing phenomenon but had saved her life on more than one occasion. She approached closer to a large tree in the side yard, sniffing to see what kind of prey had been near it when she was suddenly hoisted in the air.
Pickles yowled loudly and starting clawing around, looking for a way out. Her view was entirely blocked and whatever the material was felt suffocating. "Let me out! Somebody help me!" She called out loudly, thrashing around in her panic. Her heart raced and she suddenly became very still. She had ended up in one of their traps but how? She was always so careful... there were only leaves and dirt on the ground. The brown she-cat received her answer with a mouthful of a dirty leaf. Filthy creatures. What would they do with her once they had her? She was too scared to really consider that option, trying to rip a tear in the trap.
The young medicine cat had just been about to turn around and take off back towards camp when he heard the yowling. It went against his very nature to not react. Not caring if it was a wounded kittypet or some rouge, Vulturepaw took off in the direction of the sound, every sense on edge. Come to the location of the screeches, he was surprised that the source of the noise was coming from about his head.
“What in the name of StarClan?” he asked, tipping his head up to look at the struggling sack. “Are you okay up there?”

She stopped moving long enough to scent the air, it was a familiar scent which was a relief. "Vulturepaw!" She had smelled him enough to know who it was by scent alone. "I'm stuck. Some hidden two-leg trap. Can you cut me out?" It was embarrassing to be caught in such a situation but the brown she-cat would rather be embarrassed than stuck up in this ridiculous trap or at the mercy of those stinking two-legs. This had never before happened to her and she burned with enough shame as it was.
Recognizing the scent finally, Vulturepaw gave a huff of annoyance. "I thought you left all of this behind you?" he called up with a curl of his lip, fur along his spine prickling. "Aren't you supposed to be a warrior now and stick to the code?" Yet as he spoke, the young medicine cat circled around the tree and tried his best to find the anchor for the trap that held his Clanmate.
Seeing the spoke drove deep into the ground, he began to work at digging around it, ears flat against his head as mud slung against his pelt and his claws ripped against the hard surface.

Was he seriously accusing her of copying up with two-legs? Not a day in her life had she ever done that and she wouldn't start today either. "I-i was here catching mice." She stammerwd. It just sounded like an excuse with her stammer but she could hardly get the words out in the first place. Would he believe her? She didn't care for two-legs or their structures but she really had been trying to come home with big, juicy prey. Did it matter if he would believe her? She wasn't even sure she could spit it up without her tongue tripping and twisting over itself.
Suddenly, she was falling. The brown she-cat couldn't help a loud yowl which ended as she hit the ground below, winding her entirely. The moment Pickles was able to regain her bearings and breath okay she slithered her way out of the loose sack, coming up with wide green eyes and messed up fur.
At once he was checking her over, nosing her body here and there to make sure she wasn't injured from the fall. Taking a step back, the lanky tom look her up and down with an arched brow and asked, "Can you move everything okay? Anything hurt?" Part of him was worried about her, yet part of him was trying to distract her from asking why he had been here in the first place.

Pickles jumped a little when he started poking around and checking her over. What was he doing? She wasn't bleeding or hurt, although maybe a bit sore. She had forgotten he was a medicine cat apprentice for a moment. "No, I'm fine. A-a little sore." Pickles admitted and tested each of her limbs, she felt okay.
"Are you here for h-herbs?" She had been here more than a time or two and knew there was a nice little garden in the yard with some useful plants. She didn't know everything about the plants but having lived on her own by herself for so long, the loner had learned a trick or two.
Satisifted that she was uninjured, Vulturepaw stepped back and flopped onto his bony haunches. "Yeah," he replied, licking a paw and drawing it roughly across his face. "Best place for catnip and lavender." Though he didn't need the catnip, it was always best to gather it when fresh and then dry it for storage. Lavender was one that didn't grow in the SummerClan gardens and it was good for a few things. Plus, he secretly liked to line his nest with the calming herb.

Figures. These clan cats were so strangely clingy and then aloof at the weirdest times. Or maybe that's how cats were supposed to be. This was her first time being around other cats since being weaned from her mother many seasons ago. Maybe this was her chance to get to know one of them better and maybe understand them better. She was enjoying clan life but Pickles felt like she still didn't understand a thing about it.
" I can help you get in their garden and bring some back. A-apparently we have to look out f-for all kinds of two leg traps here." The brown she-cat offered quietly, glaring at the stupid contraption. It was frustrating to have been outsmarted AND caught by someone from Summerclan.
"Four paws are better than two," he agreed with a nod. Parting his jaws, the young tom drank in the scents around them, trying to pick up on the mouthwatering scent of the catmint. Sometimes there were kittypets around that ruined the crop, so they would have to be careful where they searched. The breeze lifted and brought a faint scent towards him. "This way," Vulturepaw meowed, bounding down the fence line.

"Touche" the brown she-cat tipped her head in acknowledgement and followed him. She knew he was what they called a medicine cat apprentice, but the significance was still partially lost on her. He cared for the sick and injured, she knew that much, but how much could they actually treat and care for? Usually out there if you were hurt or sick you were on your own and your chances of death were pretty high.
"So, what e-exactly do you do as a m-medicine cat?" Pickles was too curious not to ask and see his response.
"Oh lots of things," Vulturepaw tossed over his shoulder, still on the trail of his catmint. "Keep our herb stores stocked, take care of any wounds or sickness, take care of the elders, help birth kits, talk to StarClan every halfmoon." Memories of his first halfmoon meeting still glowed in his mind, still seeing stars dancing.

"Ah...I see." Well, she sort of did. "I'm still t-trying to understand Starclan. So you talk to... stars? You understand why it sounds a little silly right?" Maybe it didn't sound silly to him or the rest of them but she never grew up with it. All she knew was the harsh reality of the world.
"I suppose it doesn't matter, getting medicine is more important."
