Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Jetstar sighed as she saw the mass of kittens wriggling about in her den. It was rather cramped these evenings with Dancingdragon and her kits after she decided she would move in with Jetstar.
But despite the fact that Dancingdragon would occasionally roll on top of Jetstar and her kits would squirm and squeak in the night, Jetstar didn't have the heart to kick them out.
Jetstar turned away to head over to the freshkill pile noticing Firefly and Maskedknight bickering over a squirrel. The leader let out a sigh and quickened her pace attention turning away from the occupants in her den to settling the quarrel with her warriors.
With no cat currently watching the kits, an innocuous beetle flew down to the ground and landed just outside the den crawling around. Perfect to catch the eyes of some curious kittens.
And at the edge of camp out of sight of any cats, an adder had slunk in. It had been snagged by a hawk and dropped close to camp, now dazed and trying to recover it wriggled around hidden in the bushes that lined the edges of camp, no one aware of the danger lurking in the bushes.
Wriggling free of Softkit's besr hug, as her sister was a clingy sleeper, a glimmer of iridescent wings caught curious little Sharpkit's attention, her head tilting upward to inspect it. She was almost able to touch it with an extended paw when it flittered further away, tempting her away from her siblings and slumbering mother. She tiptoed out of Jetstar's den but quickened to a scamper once in camp. "Here, little friend~ Come back!" Not only were her cute, unsuspecting squeals keeping her would-be pet at bay, they were just loud enough to score the unbidden attention of the hidden predator, its tongue flicking out in anticipation of the meal running right towards it.
The bickering also caught the attention of Fawnheart. Emerging from her den, she saw the two warriors quarreling and Jetstar making her way over to defuse the situation. Oh, good. Jetstar is handling it. She thought to herself. As she turned to go back into her den, she heard the excited squeals of one of the kits staying in Jetstar’s den. Craning her neck, she could see the young squirt chasing a beetle across the camp. With an amused look, she made a beeline for the kit to usher her back into the den with her mother. Little did she know, a predator was lurking and ready to strike.
The beetle continued to move away from the kit quickening its pace in heading for the bushes.
As Fawnheart neared to try and usher Sharpkit away, a shining dark head of an adder could be spotted between the branches as it slithered close to the kit, ready to strike the small creature. It being the right size for some of the prey it devoured.

Goldengriffon had gone into Jetstar’s den, not to speak with the leader, but to visit his mate who had taken to sleeping there rather than the nursery. Jetstar hardly complained about it, so he assumed it was fine. They always did have an... odd relationship. The pale tabby stretched for a brief moment before he pressed his cheek against Dancingdragon’s, careful not to awake the fiery she-cat before he looked down at their brood.
One, two, three... wait a moment...
“Dancingdragon...” Goldengriffon mewed as he gently shook her shoulder. “Dancing, where’s Sharpkit?”
Fawnheart caught sight of the adder and immediately broke out into a run. “Sharpkit! Look out!” She called a warning, spraying up dust as she dug her claw into the earth to propel herself into a faster speed. It seemed as if time slowed as she skidded to a stop between the kit and the adder, blocking the strike with her own body. The adder latched onto Fawnheart’s fore leg and she let out a yowl. Instinctively, she hooked her claw into it’s jaw and tore it off of her arm before reaching for a nearby stone and bashing it into the adder’s head, killing it. She dropped to the ground, panting and wincing as pain shot up her fore leg. “Oh great Starclan that’s painful.” She hissed, watching as the blood and venom oozed from her swelling wound.
Jetstar whipped around when she heard Fawnheart let out a yowl. "Fawnheart!" Jetstar cried aghast as she rushed over hastily leaping over to where she was with Sharpkit.
She gasped when she saw the adder and Fawnheart's swelling wound. "Someone fetch Sakurapaw!" She shouted. "Or Softpelt, we need a healer stat!"
She knew about adders of course. But wasn't sure what to do to help. "Fawnheart what can we do?" She asked urgently, trying to hold out hope that perhaps something could be done. And that she wasn't just going to die.
"S-Softpelt was out on patrol." Firefly said shakily.
Jetstar grimaced. "Go look for her, now!" She said. She turned to Sharpkit. "Go back to your mother and father now." She said sternly. "Someone fetch Sakurapaw!" She shouted.
It had been a peaceful morning, with the medicine cat apprentice tossing her exasperatedly amused mentor a quick bright smile and giggle at the increasing argument occurring in the clearing. It was the most trouble the clan had experienced in the last few days, and if such a thing was to be considered trouble at all, Sakurapaw thought it was a pretty great day. Of course, the keyword here in this situation was had. It had been a good day. Until the young white she-cat, patting her paws clean of herb residue on the dusty ground and padding to the mouth of the medicine den to get a peek at the conflict outside, heard a strangled yowl that spoke of volumes of pain and barely tamped down fear. Her heart fell into her stomach and time slowed for the apprentice, before she scrambled and ran out of the den.
The situation became instantly unreal in the eyes of the still training apprentice when the leader of her clan, a she-cat she had barely interacted with but who adored immensely for her loyalty, devotion, and care for the clan – her family – as a whole, called out her name in a desperation she had never seen on the she-cat before.
"Right," she breathed, heart racing, "Right!" She raised her voice. She took a few steps toward the slowly growing group of cats gathered around Fawnheart, "Give her some air, keep her calm, don't let her heart rate rise. I'll be back in a moment."
The she-cat ducked back into the medicine den, her own breath coming out heavily, as though she was having an attack of anxiety while her mentor couldn't afford to. While she had experience in mending wounds and attending to illness, never in her wildest dreams did she even believe her own mentor would find herself in a situation of needing to be tended to by a healer. Perhaps it was naivety that made young Sakurapaw think this way, but in the white she-cat's mismatched eyes, she saw Fawnheart as young kits do: invincible, untouchable, a feline who is incapable of getting hurt or feeling discomfort or pain. Hearing her cries of anguish made her want to sob in fear and helplessness while also igniting a fire of determination within her.
Gathering a poultice of herbs, snakeroot and tormentil root included, the she-cat ran out of the medicine den, grunting when she nearly ran into a pair of cats who weren't thinking better about standing in the way of her path, and hurried to her mentor and leader's sides. She hoped desperately the shaking of her paws wasn't noticeable, or the way she felt light headed and like she would pass out in Fawnheart's stead, as she quickly set to work on chewing the herbs to apply to the wound. "Poppy seeds," she murmured, passing enough to make the pain ebb away but keep tabs on her condition and whether the she-cat's injury was reacting positively to the poultice to Jetstar to offer to her mentor, glancing down at the older she-cat's injured foreleg.
"I need to see if the fang broke off in the bite. If it's still embedded in the wound, we may be in a bigger situation than I thought." She swallowed.
Jetstar nodded worriedly looking at Fawnheart who after her initial yowl seemed to have grown quiet which set the leader on edge.
She offered the poppy seeds to Fawnheart, going so far as to nudge them at the medicine cats muzzle, but the lack of response made Jetstar's ears flatten, heart beginning to pound as a sinking realization was coming in.
She hadn't felt this worried in her entire life. Give Jetstar a battle any day and the leader would be there. Swapping barbs with Dancingdragon or her dissenters, fine. But this?
This was even worse than when she and Dancingdragon bumbled their way through assisting Lusterdawn with her kitting.
Perhaps it was denial that kept her from acknowledging the truth. The fear of the unknown – or, rather, the fear of the known – kept her jaw clamped tightly shut as she inspected the wound. She swallowed thickly, feeling as though her throat may be swelling, and gazed at the fang embedded deep in the torn flesh of the immobile she-cat's swollen foreleg. In any other situation, the bite, while dangerous, had a survival ratio of at least 50:50. Not here, where circumstances piled one on top of the other until she wondered, deep within, if StarClan themselves hadn't fated this into being. It was the perfect combination to result in absolute grief.
The she-cat inhaled a shaky breath. "Jetstar," she murmured, both out of respect for the situation and because she couldn't seem to raise her register any more, "the fang is embedded too deeply. Her blood is already thick with poison." She stood straight to gaze at her mentor, whose eyes were already dim, but who was still warm to the touch.
"It's-" She halted, throat swelling, heart pounding, eyes stinging. She tried to maintain composure, she truly did, but as she opened her mouth to finish her sentence, mind racing, what came out was a sob, "She's gone." A shaky inhalation. "She's with our ancestors now."
Jetstar swallowed as she drew back looking down at the medicine cat, the dead adder and then the shaken Sharpkit.
The leader took a deep breath and slowly let it out, struggling to process this information.
Fawnheart had been a medicine cat for many seasons. Even before Jetstar had come to SpringClan. Many had spoken of the SpringClan medicine cat. Her compassion, her kindness. Driven out briefly by Eternalstar before returning to reclaim her position alongside the older Softpelt who served as her apprentice and assistant.
Fawnheart had mothered a litter of kits... and Jetstar had grown to respect the she cat's wisdom and intelligence and healing ability.
And even now... dying to save the life of a kit. She still acted to help others.
Jetstar's throat felt tight, she dug her claws into the ground as she striaghtened up.
It hurt that SpringClan had lost such an important figure. Fawnheart was a beloved medicine cat, her loss would echo through the clan for many moons. Perhaps even beyond just SpringClan.
She bowed her head. "Then there is nothing more we can do." The leader said softly. She debated asking if they should try to extract the fang but realized that was a dangerous idea. The last thing they needed was Sakurapaw getting pricked by it and winding up hurt by any leftover venom.
At this point the venom wouldn't do anything else to Fawnheart, it was best to leave it.

“I’m…Im still here” she croaked, blinking her dazed eyes. “I haven’t left yet…”, she gazed up as her daughters gathered around her, their eyes swelling with tears. “Don’t waste anymore herbs on me.” She breathed, pushing the herbs and poppy seeds away. She winced in pain as her paw swelled and pulsed. “Sakurapaw, you are a talented medicine cat…you…” her breathing became labored. “You will make Springclan proud in my place…and don’t ever think you are alone…I-I will always be there to guide you…” She took a minute to catch her breath before turning her glossy gaze to Jetstar. “It was an honor to serve Springclan for so long…But it is my time and I accept my fate…there are less cool ways to die…” She joked, a half smile pulling at her lips. She looked around the gathering crowd for one face in particular but she couldn’t find it. “Where’s…Softpelt?…”

Jetstar let out a raspy chuckle, though her throat felt tight. "You'll be remembered for dying valiantly to protect a kits life. It was an honor to have you by my side. StarClan will be lucky to have you."
Softpelt had been fetched, the fluffy white she cat gasped as Inksplash pulled away from her mother, Softpelt hurrying over to Fawnheart. "Fawnheart!" She gasped. "Oh no," She whispered when she saw how her paw was swelling.
The injury was bad, clearly fatal. And it broke Softpelt's heart. she dropped down beside her friend, her partner. "What happened to outliving me?" She said trying to offer a touch of humor even as her blue eyes glistened with tears. "T-thought you were going to maybe join me when I hit the elders den and we'd laugh and watch the young ones go about and make a mess, reminiscing about the old days." She said, voice cracking a little.
Firefly huddled near his sisters' eyes wide in horror as he looked at his mother, dying right before his eyes. He watched as she refused care, and his heart fell into his stomach. If she was refusing care... that meant this was it.
Even though she was speaking to Softpelt, Jetstar and Sakurapaw, the ginger tom couldn't help himself. "Mother." He cried going over to her side and pressing his nose against her pelt. Unable to summon the words just burying his muzzle in her fur like he was still a kit back in the nursery of FallClan many many seasons ago.
Fawnheart dipped her head respectfully to the leader before her eyes lit up, almost bringing back the life that was ebbing away at the sight of Softpelt’s familiar white fur. The medicine cat placed her good paw on Softpelt’s. “I hoped that way too but sometimes life doesn’t always work out the way we plan.” The last word was grunted out as she winced again. “But we learn to live with what we are given. It was such an honor to have worked beside you and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner…and best friend…” A tear rolled down her cheek but she was relieved that she was able to say goodbye to her best friend. They had been through so much together and had so much history. She was glad Softpelt was here.
She let out a shaky purr when her son pressed his nose against her. She wrapped her feathery tail around him. “Don’t cry, my dears.” She croaked to her children. “Im ready, Starclan is calling me home…But I will always be here. If you call on me, I will be there. I…I love you…” she breathed, her body beginning to get heavy.
Softpelt touched noses to Fawnheart. "I'll miss you dearly," She whispered, eyes wet with tears pulling back to sit down beside her sitting with her for her last moments, her other paw going over to cover her good one. "Say hi to Birchshade for me." She said softly, hoping her mate would be around to welcome Fawnheart.
Firefly snuffled, "I'm going to miss you." He mumbled. He wished he'd spent more time with his mother, but she'd... she'd been such a constant in his life he never really thought about the moment she'd have to leave him and go to StarClan it seemed impossibly far off.
