Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Larkspur had pulled Zinniawing aside rather recently, asking a favor of the young she-cat. Recently another warrior had lost use of his leg and needed to learn new ways to adapt to warrior life without it. The torbie had been born without use of her front left paw, rendering her entire leg pretty much useless.
So, today was the first day she gathered the courage to speak to him. Not many people understood what life was like for her, and the thought of having a shared experience with someone was both excited but nervewrecking. Her whole way to speaking to him, she repeated not to ask about his leg and what had happened. Zinniawing didn't know Enduringendurance very much at all. They may have had a few patrols here and there before his accident, but they hadn't been in the same apprentice class.
She peaks her head into the warrior den, amber eyes blinking to adjust to the dark. "Hey, Enduringendurance?" she asks gently, hoping he was ready. Larkspur had said she'd let him know Zinniawing was going to take him out, but she wasn't sure if that message had ever been passed along.

Enduringendurance got to his paws and almost flopped back over. It wasn't intentional of course he hadn't meant to fall over but it was hard adjusting to three legs. Still he took a moment readjusting his balance and carefully walked over to Zinniawing. Clearing his throat the dark tom hobbled over with a small smile on his lips. "Oh hey sorry if I made you wait. I'm ready when you are." His pale citrine eyes glittered with warmth and kindness. He didn't wish to worry her or make her think he couldn't do whatever task was assigned. He would do his best and give it his all even if it meant he would trip, fall, and flounder in the process.
She smiles, the expression touching her amber eyes. “No worries!” Zinniawing studies the Tom before her with an intent gaze, learning which legs he put his weight on, and how he balanced himself out. “Let’s go out to the training hollow. It’s plush there so it’ll make falls a little easier.” When Zinniawing had first started her training, she had learned how difficult it was to learn the fighting aspect of warrior training with just three paws. In the end, she become more of a hunter, which worked for her, she was just happy to provide for her clan. As they leave camp, the splotchy colored shecat smiles at the tom beside her. “I know walking is difficult now too.” She was empathetic, she’d never had use of her paw, so she couldn’t imagine learning this all as an adult. “You’ll wanna put more weight on your back legs than you’re used to.” Zinniawing explains, taking a few steps ahead to show her ‘hop’ method. “It’s kinda just finding a method of balance, but there’s some limping involved too. We’ll work on walking smoothly before anything else.”

Zinniawing is a very kind cat, was the first thing that Enduringendurance noticed. The tom had been struggling to learn his new way of living by himself without asking for help or wanting to bother anyone. He could ask for help sure, but he hated to bother anyone. Yet here was Zinniawing coming in giving him advice and helping to correct his paw movements. It wasn't so much he hated being told what to do or how to do things, rather it was odd to be given help on how to use his paws. He taught himself to hunt, taught himself to fight, taught himself to do almost everything he knew. So having someone give a helping paw was...hard. Hard yet not unappreciated. To show he heard and gave his thanks Enduring gave a small nod as he tried to change his stance to putting the weight on his hind legs. The road in front of Endurance looked rough and hard. He knew he could do it though.

“You can watch me if you want.” She suggests, turning to Enduring as they walk out of camp. She’d waited until they were out of earshot of anyone, knowing this might be difficult for the tom, and even slightly embarrassing. When Zinniawing was learning, she remembered the embarrassment every time she fell in front of her classmates. “I’ll walk a few steps ahead, watch the way my back paws move in comparison to the front ones.” She explains gently, turning to walk a few steps ahead. The torbie pulled her leg with her twisted paw close to her body, the other three keeping her steady as she walked along. It was a strange gait, but it worked. Her back legs seemed to work as normal, but she hopped on her front paw when the time came. It was surprisingly grateful despite the slight limp. She circles back to Enduringendurance, purring softly. “I know you’ll be able to do it. It just takes some time. Gotta walk before you run.”

"You aren't wrong there..." he appreciated her words of encouragement and so tried to follow in her lead. Or well in the lead that suited Enduring anyway. It was rather hard doing this in front of anyone, falling and stumbling as he made his ways into walking in a normal manner for himself. However he didn't feel quiet as foolish in front of Zinniawing more than likely because she sympathized with him. She knew the hardships of this and did all this by herself without anyone guiding her like this anyway. Perhaps...
Still the dark tom felt himself learning. "So Zinniawing...I appreciate what you are doing for me but if I am causing you too much trouble or need to be doing something else you don't have to be here for me. I mean I can do it by myself...I just..." it was so hard for him to rely on her. Enduring felt like he was causing more trouble than he actually was. It was a battle against himself within his own mind.

"No, it's okay! You're not keeping me from anything." Zinniawing smiles widely, hoping in reassurance. She peers ahead, slipping easily into the training hollow, humming softly as she felt the soft grass under her paws. She remembered training here, thinking back to the days where she would come alone, going over and over by herself until she got things right.
The torbie faces Enduringendurance as he follows behind her, finally sitting for the first time since they came through the forest. "Okay Enduringendurance. I'm just letting you know now, this is going to be the hardest thing you've ever done. I have faith that you'll get through this eventually, but it's going to take practice. And I'll be honest with you, you'll probably never be able to move the way you did before. But you'll manage! I did it, so I know you can." She smiles, giving the tom a moment to get settled in before continuing. "The most important thing right now is to relearn how to move. Especially leaping and landing. Plus walking in general."

Enduring hadn't leaped or jumped since his...accident. Just the act of walking had been a daunting task let alone thinking of any other various exercises he once would not have had trouble doing. Everything was becoming new to him in ways he could never have imagined. "Okay then my dear mentor tell me where should I begin: I am all ears and your ever earnest pupil. I am clay to mold underneath your paws." Although he was speaking in a joking manner there was still truth to his words. If she was willing to teach him Enduring would learn the best he could. One day he would like to feel the wind on his fur as he leapt or ran..one day it might happen. Maybe.
Zinniawing grins at the tom's lighthearted words, knowing the true weight behind them. She was sure he was likely scared, and probably stressed, but once he got his balance, it shouldn't be hard at all! "Do you think you could handle starting from one end to the other? I just need to evaluate where you are." She smiles, hopping her way to the end of the hollow. "Don't worry about tripping, or falling. Take as much time as you need." Her amber eyes shine with determination. She knew that the tom could do this. "If you feel wobbly, take a second to find your center of balance."

The tom gave a nod and set out to do the tast infront of him. He felt himself wobble and even fell at one point before getting up on his own. It was so hard to do such a simple task which was pretty frustrating to Enduring. He didn't show it however, or at least tried to not show it. The warrior took his time but eventually finnished his objective looking back to Zinniawing panting slightly. "How was that?"
She grins. "You're doing great!" Zinniawing gives him a light nose boop of encouragement. "This time I'll walk with you, so I can see a play by play of where I can help you." She walks back and forth with him a few times, showing him an easier way to maneuver uneven ground with three legs. "See you're going to come out of this a pro, like you never even had four legs to begin with." She teases, hoping that the joke wasn't pushing his boundaries. "Sorry," she says quickly. Zinniawing had never had someone to relate to before, and she realized joking about his injury might've come off as insensitive.

Enduringendurance felt slightly more confident the longer he continued his training but couldn't help but blush when Zinniawing booped him. It was a weird feeling he wasn't used to but seemed to have been able to hide that to himself without her noticing. Instead he pressed on continuing to ever so slowly make improvements. With her joke it actually made him chuckle surprised with her humor. "Nothing to be sorry about...doesn't bother me at all. Feel free to just be yourself, if you want to I mean." He added quickly with a look of genuine surprise on his face. It was true but he hadn't meant to just speak as freely as he did. The tom started to feel naturally at peace with this she cat.

Zinnia gives a grateful smile in his direction, her heart feeling less achey than it had a moment before. She had hoped she hadn't pushed him away with her loud mouth, but everything seemed fine. She was the type of cat that had many friends, with her warm personality and happy-go-lucky attitude, she wasn't difficult to be around. However, she knew that other cats pitied her. She would never be 100% equal to her clanmates. Having Enduring as someone who understood what she was going through made the world seem a little easier. "Thank you, Enduringendurance." she says genuinely. After a second, she blushes and laughs. "Okay, are you ready for leaping?"

(Awe they are both so cute!)
He hesitated for a moment then shook his head. "Yes I think I am as ready as I will be to learn how to leap again. I wouldn't mind getting a chance to going back to doing normal things again...even if I am not as normal as I once was. Then again this is the new normal now...which isn't bad. I mean it could have been worse. I lived at least." Enduring felt himself rambling on like a fool and felt weirder and weirder as he talked. Yeah if he could stop talking now that would be great. seeker

She purrs softly, tail flicking back and forth. "You have to use your tail for balance more than you would've before. You'll also need to be more precise since you don't have four paws to land on." Zinnia explains, standing beside the young tom. "You'll focus a lot more energy in your back, making sure you have spring leverage, but then shift your center of gravity to the middle so you can land on the three that you have." She noses him gently in the shoulder, her eyes gleaming. "You've got this. Try hopping on the trunk over there."

Focusing Enduring kept in mind what she said practicing just what she suggested. Tail...shifting weight...energy in the back... The tom stood there making sure he had this down practicing each movement before taking a deep breath. He could see it clear in his mind what he wanted to do...how to do it. Before he knew it Enduring took the leap just barely making the mark but none the less made it. Was it a bit sloppy? Yes, but it was his first time doing it so he was more than happy with himself for being able to nail it as close as he did for the first try. Hd looked back at Zinnia finding himself secretly wanting her praise.
