Blue eyes refocused past a frosted blade of grass to settle on Mirror Lake in the background, just barely iced over. The environment was serene, but the rumble of her stomach cut through the tranquility. The prey on the territory was inedible, and it rendered many of the hunters agitated and hungry. Ryn had a higher patience threshold than some of her comrades, but could unleash an equal level of wrath if provoked. Her silver-white fur meshed well with the monochrome surroundings, broken only by the baby blue hue of the frosty water.

"Good evening, Ryn," meowed a voice as a feline seemed to appear from nowhere. Niarra was just as hungry as the rest of them, but one wouldn't have guessed it. Her manners had not changed, at least not much. That was what happened when you intended to create a coupe. You had to be on top of your game at all times, whether or not you felt like being on it. You had to be a charming snake every moment. "It'll be strange to leave this place, no?" Her whiskers twitched at the thought. In a matter of hours, they would leave the place where she had grown up. There was a wistfulness about this idea. This was the land of not only she but her family, the legacy in which she intended to restore.

Niarra's voice induced a twitch of her right ear, followed by a quarter turn of her head in the same direction. Ryn registered the other with mild interest, her expression mostly unreadable except for the light curiosity in her unnerving blue gaze. Inwardly, she wondered if she had ever encountered this cat before, struggling to recall her name. Nonetheless, she gave a nod of agreement.
"Yes, it will be strange," she agreed, her voice carrying a steely, yet enticing, anachronistic accent. Unlike Niarra, Ryn was not league-born, and therefore did not feel the same indigenous ties to the land that some of the others did. The move did not affect her on such a personal level; it merely reached the status of a minor inconvenience. Nevertheless, Ryn was apprehensive about leaving. The devil you knew was always better than the devil you didn't, and at the very least, Ryn could be sure that she could survive the winter here, even if that meant raiding the clans. Wherever Vera was taking them, however, was just as likely to be inhospitable as it was to be a paradise.

"I almost wonder if it's what's best for us. I understand why she's doing it, but I also wonder if it's the right thing. The last time the League came to this prediciment, they destroyed another group, so I know that's something we are capable. I guess that makes this feel a little more odd to me." She almost sounded as if she was talking to herself, however her gaze was semi-pointed at Ryn. She knew very little about this particular cat. Although Vera was not the only one who tended to keep tabs on the others, Niarra's tabs on Ryn seemed to be a little lacking. Although the golden she-cat believed that Ryn was a stranger among strange lands, she wasn't for sure. Niarra did not like being unsure.
"But, it could also be very good for the League," she meowed, as if to gloss over the fact that she had indirectly challenged Vera's decisions. She seemed to do this a lot, dance around her own truths and the truths of the world around her. "Who knows what the future holds, hmm? Sentimentalists like myself," she had fought to use the word purist, which she had loosely decided the name of her followers would be, "will just have to get over it. Change can be good." Especially when you're plotting a revolution.

The undermining of the Nemesis was all but lost upon Ryn, who had never fully comprehended the hierarchy of the league in the first place. She hadn't been here very long, just over two seasons at most, and although the pecking order of Primal Instinct was crystal clear, Ryn could never understand why so many cats would so readily follow a cat such as Vera. There was undeniable strength in Vera E'tani, but she was plain cruel, and although Ryn had minor temper issues, it never came close to Vera's outright sadistic nature.
"It could go either way," Ryn agreed, "but I feel that we would be better off picking out the weakest clan and driving them out for the winter. We could just inhabit their territory. We're all hungry, but we aren't weak; not yet, anyway. I just don't know why Vera, who apparently has done just that in the past, simply wants to pick up and leave. Alas, she is our Nemesis; what are we to do?"

Delight entered her eyes, but it was almost unnoticeable. This cat in front of her spoke her language, which immediately intrigued her. The other felines that she spoke to were at least more guarded with their opinions. Was this one stupid ? Or had she just stumbled on a lucky day on a night that had already proves so lucky? Time would tell, but there was no way Niarra was going to let this one pass. She would try to be delicate with it, but at the same time, she would take this opportunity as it came to her.
"I fear that this decision shows a lot about the state of the group. We haven't been quite the same since the fire..." Her tail twitched. "Vera hasn't been quite the same. At one point, you are right, she would have simply torn a territory under a group's paws. But now, she just wants to relinquish us from the territory in which Primal Instinct found its origin?" Niarra sighed. "There's not much that we can do, at least not yet," she meowed after a moment. "We must make the switch, and after that, only time will tell."

"Not yet?" Ryn questioned, her eyes flashing. Unfiltered, yes, but stupid? Ryn was nothing of the sort. The silver feline narrowed her gaze, curiosity lacing her voice. "I agree, Vera's lost her touch since the fire, but I'm certain it's temporary. Is there even something that could actually be done?" The question alone could be enough to merit her execution, but Ryn was a survivor, a shadow. A grain of sand that slipped through the paws of captors.

"There is a time in which anything is possible, if you're willing to wait," Niarra mused. Luckily, she was a patient cat, one who's craftmanship was slow to build but would one day be greater than the ruins in which they existed, or, at least, would exist until the morning. "It takes patience, though. A mind slow to anger and quick to create allies in unusual places. You never know who's companionship may come in handy." She laughed quietly, before letting out a sigh. This was a dangerous game that she was playing, but Ryn almost appeared to be a suitable playmate. "There is always something that can be done, but there is also always a price to pay. Fortunately, there are some who are willing to pay it."

"I see," Ryn nodded. "Well, I'm more of a quick to anger, slow to make friends kind of cat myself," she admitted, "but that doesn't mean I can't play some cards right. As far as prices go .. let's just say I'm pretty affluent."

"Is that so?" she asked, her voice twisting with interest. It appeared that she had, in fact, happened to wander across the right cat. She had been looking for a partner in crime, and had she found one? A right hand cat? She didn't want to jump too far to conclusions, but there was a hope in the back of her head. "Well, sometimes balance is good. A ying and yang, one quick to anger and the other quick to be a diplomat. A cat who could get others to join, and then one that other's understood could be a bit of a temper." She blinked twice, before glancing away from her. "You claim that you're affluent and you can maneuver a hand, so how interested are you in play?"
