Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Vixenpaw had basically spent the first few of her training moons in SunClan, and that didn't sit well with her. Not at all. She felt like the only thing she'd learned was how to write some symbols from SpringClan, gotten better at her communication skills (lip reading and body language), and learned a herb or two more than she'd learned as a kit. She was stronger than she had been when DayClan had first been taken over, and she was more confident, but she wished that those skills had come from learning in her home, and not learning because she had nothing else to do.
"Hey Vixenpaw," Heatherpaw was there, a familiar face since she was an apprentice in DayClan, "I wanted to teach you how to hunt, I don't know yet what SunClan will make of you, but they do already have essentially four medicine cats since the leader and deputy need to learn how to heal. They seem to be considering adding Flyingcolors to the team, but I don't know if they'd allow a sixth healer. So may as well put you to good use right?"
Lately Heatherpaw had seemed more eager to help SunClan rather than worry about DayClan's situation.
Vixenpaw was surprised at what her fellow DayClan apprentice said. Her? Hunt? She remembered when Flyingcolors suggested it, and remembered the anxiety she'd felt at trying to seemed to come naturally to cats who could hear. Her? It probably did, but she wasn't sure how she'd hunt if she couldn't tell where the sounds were coming from.
And wasn't it harder to hunt in the winter? Which meant it was probably harder to learn as well. But she didn't have anything else to do. So, she nodded to Heatherpaw.
Then the rest of the other apprentice's words registered. Were they going to be in SunClan forever? Was she going to be forced to not become a medicine cat? And why did Heatherpaw seem to care what Foxstar thought? They weren't part of SunClan, Foxstar wasn't their leader, and Vixenpaw would sooner become a kittypet than be forced to live with Foxstar as her leader.
Heatherpaw lead the way. As much as the SunClan cats had harmed them the territory seemed genuinely nice during leafbare. Sure they had some open fields like they did, but they had trees to shelter them and the sun seemed to shine brighter on their territory than DayClan's. Heatherpaw's fur seemed to shine like sunlight the way the light flickered bronze and silver reflections off of her gilded fiery pelt. She looked like a golden tigress with bleeding starlight red stripes.
"Okay Vixenpaw, so I know you can't hear so you'll have to always hunt in a group. When I point you strike, your not going to be the sneakiest cat, you're going to have to be the fastest. Every time you miss a piece of prey we're going to do one lap together. That's our punishment, because we're a team and we suffer together. So there's a mouse up ahead, those are tricky to outrun, so you're going to chase it and then when it goes in a hole dig after it and grab it out, okay?" Heatherpaw explained.
Vixenpaw nodded at her fellow apprentice's words. Though she didn't like the idea of having to run multiple laps, but it was better than doing nothing. If anything, it would make it so she could flee easier when things got worse. She'd probably get tired after two or three, anyway. So it was just something to pass the time. She looked to where Heatherpaw was looking, and she half wanted to ask for an example of how to hunt the creature. Deciding to just go for it, she tried to copy the movements that Flyingcolors had made when they'd gone to speak with StarClan the day she'd become an apprentice. It felt weird and unnatural to her. She struggled to stalk forward towards the mouse, but the movements felt jerky to her and she finally gave up before chasing after the stupid thing.
Vixenpaw grumbled when the mouse fled down the hole. She started digging to find the creature. She had been so close to catching it before it'd vanished.
At first it was just dirt flying out when all of a sudden Vixenpaw could feel something soft. At first the soft lump seemed spongy until she could feel the heat. But all at once ten tiny furry lumps became to swarm past Vixenpaw. It was an entire nest of mice.
"OH MY GOD! VIXEN! You hit the mother load, get them!" Heatherpaw cried as she swiftly bit one and with a paw on the other mouse killed it one fell swoop.
Heatherpaw had raced off after another mouse and came back with it in her jaws triumphantly, "Wow! SunClan's going to be so proud of us. Man I'm sorry, I'm a little worried that I may have dashed your dreams of becoming medicine cat apprentice. Cause after they see how many mice you caught they're definitely going to want you as a warrior apprentice! This is great!"
