Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Aspenstar felt genuinely bad about this, about as bad as she felt about anything that had transpired over the last half moon of her life. To say she had been busy was an understatement; in the last few weeks, another brother of hers had died, she had acquired a litter of four of her nieces and nephews, her deputy had gone missing and had subsequently been replaced. But, that didn't excuse poor performance, something that her own mentor had nailed into her brain. Sometimes, you have to put everything aside and do your job. This, Aspenstar figured, had to be one of those times.
"I owe you both an apology," the leader admitted as she glanced between the two. They sat next to the river, next to the spot where large rocks made a bridge across it from under the river's surface. "I have no excuse for it taking me this long to take you on a training mission myself. I hope that the other Loyal Guard have been doing an acceptable job while I've been distracted." She had told the guard to put the duo on rotation. Every few days, a different guard would teach them. That changed today, though. She was finally ready.
Puddlepaw was quiet. He studied Aspenstar, a sad and distant look behind his light blue eyes. " it's 'kay." he says with a shrug, glancing over at his partner. The tom-cat could feel his nervous heart ready to beat out of his chest. Maybe he finally wouldn't feel so alone-- or useless. "Will I still get to promote with my brothers?" the tears basically welled in his eyes, but he quickly wiped them away with a paw.
"Oh," Aspenstar meowed, genuinely surprised by the question. "Of course you will, Puddlepaw. Between the Loyal Guard and myself, you will have covered the same material as your brothers in the same amount of time, I promise. I wouldn't hold you back from your brothers unless you wanted me to." She blinked, resting her tail on his shoulder for a brief moment. "I'm sorry if you ever thought differently."
