[This thread was supposed to have taken place on their birthday.... and then I got slammed with work. Sorry guys]
Fallingleaves leaned down, giving each of her newborns a lick on the top of the their heads. Rather unsurprisingly for those that knew her, she had given birth on her own in one the many tunnels that ran underneath DayClan's territory. Not so far as to run into the regime, or get to far away from the surface. She wouldn't be surprised if most of her family hadn't even realized that she was pregnant. She was gone from camp for long extended periods of time, so most of her family had gotten used to her absence. As much as she hated to admit it, it was time to return home. She was a first time mother, and had no idea what she was doing with these little squirmy creatures that now suckled at her sides. It was rather miraculous that all the kits had made it, probable because of her good health and sheer determination to keep them alive. She rose to her weary paws, picking up the kits by the scruff as their shrill cries began to quieten. Heading back towards DayClan's camp. ------------> Meanwhile.... Lovesmitten grinned, putting last of the touches on the party for his and Autumngossamer's children. He had built up a large pile of yummy chicken nuggets, mice, and other fresh kill with a bright sauce drizzled on top. He had arranged it to look like a cake, and beside of it was the actual desert of cinnamon mice and honey drizzled fish. Autumngossamer knew about the party, but had allowed him to arrange everything. Besides that he had went out and gathered a personalized gift for each of their children that were wrapped in leaves and tied together by vines so that they couldn't see into the gifts. He had asked each of them to come and meet him and Autumngossamer at the clearing but not told them why. He leaned into his mate giving her a swift lick on her cheek "They should all be here soon" he purred.
He had no more than finished his sentence when the familiar pelt of Fallingleaves could be seen heading their way. He rushed forward, popping up out of the bushes "SURPRISE!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY" even though Fallingleaves jumped backwards with wide eyes and a little growl, it was Lovesmitten that was surprised, his face melting like butter before the sight of the kits "eeewfrfrrwervadeofkjlkcjhuihr"he stammered excitedly, his tail waving in the air "KITS?" he finally managed to squeak out
On her way to the obligatory family meeting, Sweetwheat had spotted her sister with a mouthful of kits, but she kept her distance until they had arrived. As a result, she was more composed than her father, though that wasn't surprising either. She wasn't much for outward emotions and even having little nephews and nieces to look after wouldn't change that. They were her relatives, but she barely saw Fallingleaves as a sister, so it was more like just another clanmate. Her mind started to drift into dissecting those relationships further as she pulled closer to the group, and finally stopped herself when she reached them.
"They're very cute," she greeted politely, looking down at the blind lumps of fur. "How old are they?"

Most of the kits were really Goldenphantom's more than their's, but she didn't try to step into the preparations for the surprise party. They wanted to get closer and celebrate with them, so who was she to take this step in. Besides, both Autumngossamer and Lovesmitten knew she wouldn't. Since their group went from four to three. It... changed her. So even though she sat on the side, tying the smiling mask even tighter on her face, Goldenphantom couldn't face them. The mewling of the kits reminded her of Fia. It was a sweet sound that had turned sour.
Princecharming was the next to arrive at the family meeting. And compared to other members of the family, she was a bit too emotive. Her initial stumble back was quickly followed up by gawking at all the decorations. It looked amazing, clearly Lovesmitten's time on the stage building team during the play came in handy. She was so wrapped up in them, she almost didn't notice the kits until one of them cried out in a mewl. And then her head whipped around, quickly righting herself to join the group. "Fallingleaves. Are you okay? I never saw you in the medicine cats den or even heard you went into labor?" Princecharming was a bit of a worry wart, her expression dropping to show it.

Fallingleaves had taken several steps backwards at this point, but was unable to talk with her mouth full of kit scruffs. The red she-cat looked absolutly startled, not quite putting the pieces together that this was in face a celebration of HER litter's birthday, and not the kits that she was carrying since she had given birth to them early that morning. She had been alone during the kitting, so how had they known and planned something like this? She was exhausted and tired, just wanting to get back to camp and rest and now her family had planned some sort of party? It wasn't until Princecharming spoke that she began to understand that this wasn't a party for the newborns. She didn't want to sit the kits on the ground here, but she also couldn't answer them while holding the kits. Her ears fell back giving them an annoyed look, before finally sitting and fanning out her fluffy tail to gently place them on the long fur
"I'm fine" she grumbled, "born this morning, going back to rest in camp" her answer was short and snappy, but she didn't have the energy to deal with them fawning all over her until she saw Goldenphantom. She wouldn't even look in her direction, and she felt her heart sink and her face pale. Was she angry about the kits? strawberrycupid
Divinefavor had gone back and forth on whether or not she wanted to attend this little family gathering. She still had a hard time interacting with Autumngossamer and Lovesmitten for one, but she also tended to argue with her littermates. She hated that about herself, but she couldn't stop her bad attitude, it was her curse.
Still, the first step to fixing a problem is admitting it, the next was probably something along the lines of facing it. The ginger-and-white she-cat would do her best to be pleasant and friendly at this meeting, damn it!
"The food looks... great...," Divinefavor started only for Fallingleaves to totally steal the show with a kit in her jaws. She sighed and just sat there with her eyes on her feet. She hated surprises especially ones regarding kits and immediately concluded she'd rather be anywhere but here. This was destined to fail from the start, what was she thinking...?
Harvestcharm had one goal of this party and it was to get it over with. He felt weirdly possessive of his dad and seeing him adoring over Fallingleaves kits just... She was mean to him and everyone, even the parents that raised her. And like, yeah Lovesmitten would love any kits, but it didn't change the jealous feeling stirring inside of him. Like that was his dad, not Fallingleaves, not Divinefavor's, not any of these DayClan cats who stuck their nose so high up in the air they couldn't see how much they had, how lucky they had things.
His lilypad green gaze followed Fallingleaves with a stern expression as he watched her distance herself from them. Not even appreciative of her parents efforts, the care of her sisters, the kind interest Sweetwheat still politely held for Fallingleaves despite her rude behavior. The stupid amount of things he waste his time listing. He would never say it out loud, but if he could ever meet Littlestar again he was pretty sure he would kiss her paw for separating them even if by accident. Any force of nature that kept him from ending up as fragile as the rest of his litter was benevolent.
"Yeah, I thought it would be something like this, sorry to drag you in, I just didn't want to face whatever this was alone," Harvestcharm said to Brakewings, "My dads just really nice and likes to shower us all with love, which is kind! But it's nice to have a friend to spend these sort of things with. Sweetwheat's cool though."
Fairytalehunt was grooming himself, something he did quite often. Given he didn't have nerves to feel he wasn't usually conscious of any debris clinging to his fur unless he routinely treated his pelt like it had dirt. He didn't seem to have much of a reaction to the surprise, but just like his father he practically leapt out of his fur at the sight of the kits Fallingleaves brought in. "Falling! You were pregnant?" He practically gasped, a smile softening across his lips, "I'm so happy for you. Here, everyone leave Fallingleaves alone, I've trained for this, I can monitor things quietly so she can relax," He said, trying to resist the amount of excitement he had glimmering in his eyes.

Even amongst the happy atmosphere, the air felt tense. It felt like any attempt to bring the kids together became like this. Goldenphantom didn't want it to be so, but she knew if she joined it, they would all know it was forced. Hell, her appearance was forced. The kits had never seen her without Fia, with this darkness in her eyes. That and Brakewings was there, the medicine cat made his disdain for her clear.
But then Golden's gaze met Falling's, and she felt the air get sucked out of her lungs. She couldn't really even describe the look, a mix of expectation and betrayal. Like what the new mother had expected had already happened. It made Goldenphantom pull herself from her spot on the side and join the group, though her skin felt like it was being ignited just from the closeness. She looked at the kits wordlessly, a small smile forming on her lips. "They're lovely, Fallingleaves."
"Oh, okay. You enjoy your rest, then," Sweetwheat trailed off, unsure how to proceed. This family was so strange. Fallingleaves stopping by only to immediately head home, the tension between her and her mother, Sweetwheat wasn't qualified to tackle any of this and yet she had stuck herself in the middle. She took a few steps backward, slowly, hoping nobody would notice her creeping away from the main event. Maybe she'd circle around and sit with Harvestcharm later... she wished he had come alone, but she couldn't blame him for finding company away from her.
Brakewings' gaze darted rapidly over the scene. There was Fairytalehunt, grooming his fur again; someone should really tell him not to overdo it before he started losing hair. Surely he had taught him better than that? His gaze switched to Fallingleaves, and he was tempted to go over to her. If she had really just kitted, he needed to make sure she was okay, and that her kits were healthy. Queens had been giving birth since the beginning of time, but it was a tricky process without a medicine cat to guide them. The only reason he didn't head over to her straight away was Goldenphantom. Fallingleaves was her daughter, she'd probably accuse him of trying to poison her if he got close.
"I understand," Brakewings assured Harvestcharm, never taking his eyes off of the queen and former leader. His claws itched in satisfaction as he noted how crushed Goldenphantom looked. Not so brave without her mate at her side, was she? "Besides, I haven't had anything to eat yet today. There was no way I was turning down free food."
When Goldenphantom finally spoke, Fallingleaves let out a breath that she didn’t know she had been holding. Her eyes closing as she nuzzled into her warm fur. Hardly noticing as Lovesmitten was nearly pushed out of the way by Goldenphantom and Fairytalehunt.
lovesmitten returned to his mate’s side with a big grin on his face, nuzzling her cheek “Can you believe it?We are grandparents” he whispered trying to contain the excitement that coursed through his veins. It was something he had always dreamed of, a big family with lots of grand kits running around for him and Autumngossamer to tell stories to as they got older. A dream that for a long time he never thought would happen.
Perhaps it was hormones, but there was something about his statement that set her off. She spun around, glaring over Goldenphantom’s shoulder “No” her tone harsh “Goldenphantom and Fia are my mothers” she curled her tail protectively over her little ones to shield them from view “instead of making this all about you and celebrating, why don’t you take half a second to realize that none of us here wanted that. We just lost our mother, the cat who raised us, and all you can think about is some mouse-brained birthday party to make yourselves feel better about missing out when we were kits. Look around you, do you see another cat that is happy to be here? Your attempts at trying to force this family together is just making everyone miserable. You are never going to be anything more than cats who contributed their genetics. So just give up already”
by the time she was finished Fallingleaves looked she was teetering on the edge of tears, looking to her brother and mother “I just want to go home” strawberrycupidFaith
Fairytalehunt glanced awkwardly back at the rest of the group, "Sure, Brake I'll see you back at the medicine cat den when you're done here," He called out to his friend before coming up to Fallingleaves side, "Let me help carry some of the kits back with you, it's safer that way," He promised her.
"Oh my fluffing god, she is just," Harvestcharm had to take a second to pause, wiping a paw down the center of his face before looking at Brakewings, "She's always doing this thing where she says she doesn't want drama and then causes it and then leaves. And then everyone follows her and is like, "Oh my gosh are you okay?" I only like one family member from this side and it's Princecharming. I also hear that there's a guy named Loveletter that I'm related to, but I've never seen him in my life and I think he might be a myth. I mean it sounds like a made up name anyways, right?" Harvestcharm asked to his friend.
"Is it weird that you whispered that to me and she heard it?" Autumngossamer asked, but one look at Lovesmitten's face and she remembered who she was married to, "Right, not the point."
For as long as she had known Lovesmitten he always had his heart set on having a family with her. But even after adopting a first litter together he hadn't been content, he wanted one of their own. Then the second litter happened, but neither of them were allowed to raise their kits, Flawedperspective instead nursed them. And then the brats in DayClan never liked them, it was like they knew she wanted to terminate the pregnancy from the start and resented her for it. Now though they had a litter they could nurse and take care of between the two of them and yet Lovesmitten was still fixated on what he couldn't have. He wanted the second litter, but they just weren't there's. She had accepted it the moment she learned Goldenphantom and Fia Cendrillion had raised them because they were her friends. There was no one else she would have wanted to raise them, but for Lovesmitten he didn't have that connection.
"She's not ours," Autumngossamer said, tipping Lovesmitten's chin up to look at her, "And you can be sad or angry or whatever you would like about it. But you can't deny it. Gingersnap, Scarletblush, Sweetwheat, Harvestcharm, Chasekit, and Summerkit, those are our kits. We're not grandparents yet, but we will be someday. After all, we've become more impossible things we thought we'd never be. Like parents, SunClan run aways, I'm sure grandparents will make the list someday, just not today," She promised him, cuddling in closer to him to provide him some comfort.

It probably would have been less painful if Fallingleaves had just ripped out his heart, his excitement coming to a screeching halt. His ears falling back against his head, unable to hide the hurt written all over his face at her harsh words. He had spent over a moon planning this party for their children, and it had all blown up in his face before it had even really begun. Food sat uneaten, presents left unopened, and now cats were leaving. It wasn't the party going downhill that had upset him though, but the rejection and the bitter truth to her words....
Had he made this birthday party all about him? It hadn't been his intention, and he had went way out of his way to try and bring in things that he thought they would enjoy. Brining in favorite foods, carefully selected gifts that was personal for each of them, but was it really for them or for him? Even Autumngossamer's touch that usually could bring his mind out of even their darkest thoughts couldn't quite get through. All he had wanted to do was show them how much he cared, that it didn't matter if they were not raised by him and Autumngossamer that each and every one of them held a place in his heart, regardless of the circumstances surrounding their birth.
His words caught in his throat, as he made up his mind. He nosed her cheek before stiffly rising to his paws and going to the presents that he had prepared. He picked up a small one, tied together by one of the flowers from his little garden and placed it at Fallingleaves paws "Take it... Father or not, I want you to have it" before turning and returning to Autumngossamer with his head and tail low, unable to find the strength to turn and see if she would actually take it Faith
Divinefavor didn't know how to react to Fallingleaves's rant. On one paw, she felt as if her littermate had expressed a lot of the feelings that she'd been having for moons but, on the other, she felt that the way it had been expressed was horribly unfair. As terrible as it was that they were stolen away from Autumngossamer and Lovesmitten, their biological parents were victims, too. Plus, it wasn't like Fia and Goldenphantom were bad parents. No, any outsider looking in would ponder why Divinefavor or anyone in her position was unhappy. She had two totally separate families that loved and supported her and they all lived in the same Clan. Few others were that lucky... but, even knowing this, it didn't erase the sense of dread she felt whenever she was alone with them or had little get-togethers like this. And she hadn't even begun to address the death of Fia...
Divinefavor's vision blurred and she reflexively rubbed her eyes with her paw... and froze. She was... crying? Why? She turned away abruptly, thankful for Fallingleaves' outburst because it took eyes off of her. She was determined to stay for the entire party, she'd promised herself she'd do it, but she couldn't let anyone see her break in composure, it would crush her even more. Divinefavor was strong. Strong cats didn't cry, especially for no good reason...
"Oh my god are you crying?" Harvestcharm exclaimed at Divinefavor a little too loud.
His naturally sarcastic voice sunk in like fangs, but once glance at his face and she would be able to tell he was sympathetic. "Do you want to maybe-" He let out a soft sigh as he searched for a place for them to go, "By the tree by the food? No one's hungry right now. We can just talk. I mean, Brakewings would understand if I took a moment with you."
What happened to Fia was awful, it had to be hard on everyone. Although he didn't want to ditch Brakewings when he was there for him he trusted that his friend had a kind enough heart to give him a pass for comforting his sister. "C'mon," He nudged, "Let's just go over there for a moment."
"This is one of those moments where I'm going to suck at comforting you, Love because it won't be comforting," She said with a strenuous sigh, but rubbed her paw down his back, "You'll get through this though," She said, because it was the only reassuring thing that she honestly believed in. Like truthfully, she felt that if things had to be as sucky as they were that this was a pretty good reality to be in. Most of their kits lived happily in DayClan, never knowing the hardships of SunClan. They were raised in a powerful and loving family, only being brought down by their own insecurities and likely her passed on genes for anxiety and depression. They never had to raise the litter either, only being in their lives as much as they wanted, which was not at all so that saved a lot of the awkward moments from happening. But Lovesmitten didn't see it that way, probably because he actually wanted them and if he didn't they wouldn't have even born been. Ironically Fallingleaves was so thick in the head some day's she probably wouldn't even care if she knew that tidbit of knowledge. "You're a nutty cat some days Lovesmitten, but I love you all the same."
Brakewings huffed a laugh. It felt a little inappropriate to laugh while the family was falling apart in front of him, but Harvestcharm's exasperation was painfully relatable, and the tom had a good sense of humor. Besides, it was Goldenphantom's family falling apart, and he could take a little vindictive joy in that. He had made a lot of sacrifices for his position, including his own sister; she would never understand that, not when she was handed the leadership for nothing, but now she knew what it was like to lose family.
"Yeah," he agreed, looking curiously at Divinefavor when he noticed her tears. "I'll make sure Fairytalehunt found what he needed, the den is a bit of a mess right now. If you ever need to see me, come by." Smiling to make the situation a tiny bit awkward, the ginger tom backed away from the pair.
Divinefavor gave Harvestcharm an odd-eyed glare that was as sharp as a set of literal knives. If looks could kill, Harvestcharm would be a pile of bloody pieces on the ground. She could feel the eyes of her family settle on her after his spotlighted outburst and the fur along her spine began to rise. She needed an escape, but she couldn't just walk away, could she?! Her heart beat began to pick up and her paws started trembling. This was literally her worst nightmare.
She hadn't heard all of what Harvestcharm had said, but, when he nudged her shoulder, she flinched and came back to reality. The ginger-and-white she-cat looked away from him and, without saying a word, padded over to the tree that Harvestcharm had indicated. Once there she sat laid down and wrapped herself into a very tight and guarded ball, her tail covering her eyes so no one else would see her crying.
Divinefavor seemed... OK being left alone. Honestly Harvestcharm was probably damned it he did and damned if he didn't. Poor guy.
Fallingleave didn't take the package, lifting her kits up by the scruff and leaning on her brother and mother. Soon gone from the clearing, leaving the carefully wrapped packaged behind in her wake...
Lovesmitten wanted to curl into a ball and just cry, watching her walk away nearly breaking his heart. He sniffled, leaning into Autumngossamer. He took in a couple of deep breathes, composing himself for the sake of the other children that had come to the other party. He raised his paw up to his eyes to dry away the tears before straightening up and getting to his paws once more "I have presents for all of you to" he announced, trying to put on a Braveface. He walked over to the pile of presents, before picking up one that was kind of small but elaborately decorated and walking over to Sweetwheat "I made this for you" Cleaver
Sweetwheat's escape had been mostly successful, but she lingered just long enough for her father to spot her, and she wasn't going to leave once she saw the look on his face. Sighing, she moved in closer to the group and smiled back at Lovesmitten. "Thanks, Dad," she murmured, taking the present and starting to pull apart the leaves to see what was inside.

Lovesmitten watched as his daughter unwrapped her present that he had made for her. Inside was a pink Dahlia bloom, its delicate petals fading to white at the edges. In the center rested a small clay pendent he had hand painted for her. A soft pink and golden stalks of wheat standing before a clear blue sky. He gently nosed her cheek "Pink dahlia's represent proud love without compromise" he paused letting his words sink in before he continued "Sweetwheat, I'm so proud of the she-cat you have blossomed into. Watching you and your brother grow has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life, and I'm honored and blessed to get to be apart of your lives. No matter what path you decide to tread in this life, that will never change. I will always be there on the sidelines to cheer you on, even if I make a fool of myself doing so" he gave her a goofy grin before licking her forehead "Sweetwheat, I hope you have a wonderful birthday" CleaverFaith
Autumngossamer patted Lovesmitten on the back, but largely had a, god help me expression written across her face at her husbands sniffling. There was no attachment to Fallingleaves other than that she was related to them by blood. Sure, maybe if they hadn't lived in a murderous evil cult she'd be depressed and inconsolable that her kids had lived this other life and didn't like her. But that wasn't the story they were living in. Majority of her kits got to live in a good clan with loving parents. Now she and Lovesmitten moved in, she had been a high ranking SunClan cat and SunClan didn't exactly have the best reputation. She didn't really blame her kits for wanting nothing to do with her. Her only job was to be there if they needed her, so far they didn't need her so it was pretty easy living. Still she had to shove down that this was more than just her kits birthday, but the anniversary of a really traumatic day of her and Lovesmitten's life. Lovesmitten was probably just feeling it in a different way.
"Cool," Harvestcharm said awkwardly as his sister broke out into tears, damn, that was not the word to say. What the heck was he supposed to do, "are you-" a moron, were you just going to ask her if she was okay!? UGHH. What would his mom do? She was a socialite both in class and in the literal sense of the words. "Seriously? You're just going to cry?" He asked before remembering that yeah, his mom wasn't great with kind words, so he had to channel more of his father, "What I mean is that I'm here for you, but, I need some context on where. No I just want to be here for you. So take all the time you need," Harvestcharm promised her, it took him a while to find his footing, but he felt pretty certain that just being there for her is what was needed most.
"You're seriously going to come over here ask me another stupid question like that?!" Divinefavor snapped, barring her fangs at her brother unconsciously. She put her paw over her eyes and willed herself to calm down because the smart part of her knew that he was just trying and deeply appreciated it, but the emotional side of her plainly did not agree and forbid her from expressing how she really felt, "You know what, forget it, Harvestcharm. There's nothing you can do to help me. I don't think anyone can help me. So just go back to the rest of them and enjoy the party." Faith
