Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
By now they were enveloped by total darkness, the sky an ebony blanket covered by the rain-filled bellies of overhead clouds, but the pair would see no rain tonight. The heavens would wait until tomorrow before they cried for them. Crow wouldn't have cared either way; he would have stood there in the downpour regardless, soaking in the image of Orchiddrop's pure delight, an infectious joy apparent in the familiar lines of her face. They were becoming more evident every passing moment, at which point he noticed that fireflies were beginning to glow around them, little fairies illuminating two lovers in the dusk.
"It's the best outcome we could ever have wished for," he agreed, her touch electric against his shoulder. When she made to step back, he reached forward to gently grab her scruff as he laid among the few wildflowers around them, pulling her close for the first time in all their time together. If it was to be the last time he could touch her, he wouldn't miss any opportunity to do so. "We won't have to worry ever again after new-leaf comes. We could be...together." The idea had been unfathomable before. Too much seemed to divide them: His rogue status and her clan loyalty, their insecurities, and their awkwardness in the face of love. But now, in this moment, Crow felt like nothing stood between them anymore and that anything was possible. Even, perhaps, her loving him in the way he loved her.
Orchiddrop stretched out beside him, pressed against the inviting warmth of his body, elated by his touch. They had never done more than sit shoulder to shoulder, or touch a tail tip to the other in a moment of comfort. Orchiddrop had wanted to touch him like this, so strongly wanting it that it scared her, but she had always been too scared that he didn't feel the same. But Ratstar's direct manner had made them both confront their true emotions.
"Together," she repeated, her voice soft and reverent. The joy on her face transformed her, blossoming out among her usually solemn features like a flower. There was a new depth to her sapphire eyes, glittering with firefly light and adoration as she gazed at her companion. "Crow... That's all I've wanted. For a long time now," she was bold in her speech despite her quiet voice. "To be with you. I've been too scared to say it- I really am a coward sometimes." She laughed breathily, tragically unaware of how true that statement would prove to be in the coming weeks. "I hope you'll forgive me for taking so long to say it or show it, but you mean more to me than anybody. When we're apart all I think about is when I'll get to see you again, and when I'm drifting off to sleep I think of you. I'm sorry for taking so long to say it, but I love you, Crow. Thoroughly and unconditionally." A little overwhelmed by her own admission, she buried her face in the side of his neck, drawing in his scent.
He could see everything in her eyes-- from the depths of her feelings for him, to the endless nights they could spend together, to little balls of fluff with her fur and his eyes running amuck in SummerClan's camp-- and for the moment, all he wanted to do was gaze into his future. It felt so tangible, so true, and he felt as if he could reach out and grasp it between his paws, especially as Orchiddrop confessed what they'd both been feeling for longer than they could remember.
I love you, Crow.
As a young tyke in SunClan, the victim of scorn and dismissive glances if not outright shoved aside, the little black-furred kit named Crowkit had dreamed of a life where he could be loved. He imagined someone with kindness and understanding, someone who saw past the legends that deemed him a misfortune upon the world, someone who loved him where all he'd known was distance. Unknowingly, he had imagined Orchiddrop before either of them knew their paths would ever cross and intertwine. He had never imagined such white fur or blue eyes that reminded him of the ocean; he'd never imagined he would find someone that knew pain as well as he did, and who could relate to the scars on his heart like he could relate to the scars on her face. Everything he had ever wanted and dreamed of was here before him, snuggled against him and whispering her feelings into the dancing light.
He certainly was not crying again. "I love you, Orchiddrop. I've loved you since that night by the sea and I'll love you forever," came his shuddering reply, choked up with everything he wanted to say. "I promise I'll show you every day how much I mean that. I will be here, right here, until I can... until I can come home, until we can be together for real and I can tell you all the time how much I love you and how every time I found something beautiful, I thought of you." He felt his admission was small compared to hers, but every word was warmed by the emotion filling his voice. As she buried into his fur, his tail swept across her back and ran along her spine in long, gentle strokes.
Orchiddrop drew closer, until she wasn't sure where her fur stopped and his began, lapsing into a joyful silence. Her purring, and the way they were wrapped around each other, said it all. She would be eternally grateful to Ratstar for inadvertently bringing this about, since it wasn't clear how long they would have avoided the subject if they had not been prompted.
There were more things said that night, more whispered promises, as Orchiddrop truly felt unburdened for the first time in a long time. Her burdens had shifted since they first met- from outright trauma to more internalized self-doubt. But when she was with Crow, it was easy to forget it all. He made her whiskers tingle and her heart dance, and this intimacy was not something she'd soon forget. If he'd asked her then and there to leave with him, she would have. But the promise of a future together kept them content for now.
There were other things that happened that night, things that made her cheeks warm and her nerves tingle with remembrance. Everything happened in a rush, pouring out from their long repressed emotions, and Orchiddrop spent as long as she could with her black-furred lover in the aftermath, until she knew it was time to return to camp.
"I'll be back soon," she promised him, rubbing her cheek on his before pulling back to look into his eyes, giving him another smile. She was faintly bashful again in the dim light of the night and the knowledge of everything they had said and done. "We'll meet at the border." It was an easy promise to make now, in the heights of joy where she resided, before reality came back.
He was reluctant to let her pull away and only did so after many failed attempts at holding her where she was, but with the rush of ecstasy still coursing through his body, he was optimistic at what the future held in store for them, even if it meant this was where their night would end. He was reassured by promises of tomorrow and kisses filled with love, woefully unaware that tomorrows were never promised and kisses only left stains.
"I'll be here." Orchiddrop would not end up holding up her end of the deal, much to the confusion of the ebony tom when he would prowl on his designated side of the border in the coming days, denying himself the right to cross over and find out why his love stole away but refusing to break Ratstar's trust; but Crow would honor his promises, and every day he would find himself standing in that same spot where they'd spoken of dreams and of love, no matter how many days passed and how many suns set on an empty border.
He touched his nose against hers for what would be the last time for moons to come-- not that either of them knew why yet-- before he stepped back onto his side of the scent marker, sitting there and wrapping his tail around his paws. "I love you, Orchiddrop," he said once again before she would depart.
"I love you too," she whispered in return, brushing against him in farewell. "I'll see you soon." With that last, to-be-broken promise, Orchiddrop left, casting one last warm glance over her shoulder at Crow as she disappeared back into Summerclan territory, back into the midst of her confusion and bad decisions to come. When they saw each other again, everything would be different- more complicated, more laced with pain and mistrust. If she had been aware of her own downfall, Orchiddrop would have returned soon like she'd promised.
Unfortunately, one can't predict their mistakes, or the pain they will cause.
