Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
As his brother came to join them, Ghostcrown looked up, his anxiety-filled gaze seeking out comfort. His hopes were dashed when his brother focused instead on The Huntress and on insulting her, no less. "Firetooth-" he began, sighing as he was ignored. The mother was grieving, she needed her space, not someone to yell at her. Firetooth's defense made him feel a little better, but he knew it was wrong.
Ghostcrown's sympathy was severely tested by Igziq's comments about medicine cats, however, and he growled a warning. Let her insult him, let her dig her claws into his wounds and tear them back open again, but he was not going to let her go after his brother. Firetooth had not hurt her, he had done everything he could to save everyone, and he was a good medicine cat on top of his heroics. He would be proud to be a medicine cat at Firetooth's side.
He stood next to his brother and leveled his gaze at the she-cat, silently showing his support for every word that was spoken. He didn't have the energy to defend Jetfire now; he wanted to, but with every dreadful step he was finding it more difficult to summon his strength. He had to save his reserves for the tasks to come. "Enough," he murmured to Firetooth, his voice tired but grateful. Then he turned to face his family.
"If you need someone to test the slime on, I'm all in," Ghostcrown assured Desertpaw. "But we'll have to do it later. Your mother has come all this way because we have some news to share with you. Come here, sit down with me."
Igziq purred as her son approached and recognized her. "It's so good to finally see you again! You've grown so much!" She reached out a touched his side. "Last time I saw you, you were still a kit. And now you're Captain Desert. I like it. It's perfect for you." She chucked as her son talked about all the various contraptions he build and ideas he had. Frankly, she was sometime surprised the he came from her. She personally couldn't do what her child did, but she was happy for him. "I'm sure you'll figure out how to breathe underwater soon! You'll have to show me this frog slime trick sometime."
She chuckled as Firetooth got into her face. "I do have every right to be angry, and I'll be angry at who I choose. If you know anything about a mother's anger, then you'll stay out of my way." She curled her lip up and leaned in closer to his ear. "I think she should get what she deserves. She caused the death of one of my kits, so I will hold a grudge. There's no herb that can fix that, healer." She leaned away and put a paw on his shoulder and gave him a smile. "If you want to make my life better, a grieving queen's, then do me a favor and shut up." She shot another warning glare at Ghostcrown before turning her attention to Spiritpaw.
She had grown to be remarkably like her father. Igziq didn't have a problem with that. She'd be a better version of him. A more honorable version. "You've grown too. Again, remarkably well." She paused at her question. "You'll find out seen enough. Come and sit."
"Don't tell me you're getting back together?" Spiritpaw really didn't see that happening, even before Jetfire had become a part of her father's life, the affection between the Huntress and Ghostcrown had been rare and fleeting. Besides, the tone had shifted. She couldn't make our what her mother was saying to Firetooth but the expression both cats wore made her stomach twist together in knots. Whatever this news was, it wasn't good. Spiritpaw sort of wished she hadn't said anything at all just now.
As directed, the black-and-white she-cat padded over to the Huntress's side and sat down next to her, wrapping her tail around her paws. The air seemed heavy and it weighed down on her not just mentally but physically, causing her to slouch slightly, out of character for the usually far more alert and talkative she-cat. She opened her mouth to speak but thought better of it and closed it again.

Desertpaw purred under his mother's praise, but as she and Firetooth began to argue he looked between the three of them, eyes narrowed. First the Huntress, then Ghostcrown, then Firetooth. He pursed his lips together as if he was deep in thought, one ear flicked back and the tip of his tail twitching the way it always did when him mind was working over time. Usually he only spent this amount of thought on his invention, but the fact that they had news to share, firetooth and his mother was here, and Ghostcrown looked petrified suddenly clicked. A slow grin spreading across his face "It's ok mom, dad. I already figured out what you wanted to share with us" he trotted up beside of his sister, his tail curling around his paws "Don't you see it Spiritpaw? Why the three of the them are fighting" a purr rumbled in his throat "Its so obvious, mom you have broke up with dad to date Firetooth!" he chirped placing a paw on her belly "You know I thought you looked a little bit bigger than last time, but I wouldn't have guessed that you were going to give us siblings so soon. I guess Firetooth must actually know what hes talking about to know that your pregnant before you even start showing. I think it will be fun to have some little brother and sisters to experiment on. Can I name one of them?!?! I'm good at naming things! Oh don't look at me like that, it's fine if you are broke up. I still love both of you, but..." he looked over at firetooth "Just don't expect me to call you dad. That's not happening"
Why in Starclan's name did Ghostcrown choose to have kits with this she-cat, of all cats? Firetooth let out another low growl at the Queen's frosty response. While he respected that the Huntress was grieving, Jetfire caused absolutely nothing. To say she caused something implies that her actions directly resulted in it; nothing that Jetfire did or failed to do had any correlation with Raypaw's fate. But the apprentices were here now, so he bit back any retort that was on the edge of his tongue and took a seat on the grass, ears falling back angrily against his head. Then Desertpaw spoke up.
He had mostly learned to tune out Desertpaw's strange rants by this point, but the ginger tom couldn't ignore this one. Where had the young tom even come up with that ludicrous connection? The implication made him recoil slightly in repulsion, scrunching his nose at the idea of him being in love with such unreasonable feline. "Desertpaw," he finally sighed tiredly after the initial shock had worn off, lifting a paw to his forehead. "I would seriously love to see what goes on in that brain of yours. I'm not dating your mother, and there are no kits coming. I'm a Medicine Cat. I can't have kits." And he certainly was never planning on having any. Having to constantly fret over Jetfire's kits was more than enough for him.
"Firetooth's right. You're delusional," Spiritpaw would never miss a chance to bully Desertpaw especially after setting himself up so well. She waved her paw dismissively before continuing, "Besides, there's no way he'd be dating mom, Firetooth is with Chimerastar."
She had only met him today, but she already hated the tom He had the audacity to think that he could tell her, a grieving mother, how to feel about her kits death. He thought that he could decide how she places the blame. No one had the right but her. No one. She could have given him a slap then and there, but with her kits around she restrained herself. Then Desertpaw decided to do his thing and be Desertpaw. It was wildly outlandish and dumb to suggest, but a crazy idea formed in her mind. More than anything else, she wanted the tom out of here. And now she might have the means.
She first winked at Spiritpaw before rising to her paws. And walking behind the brothers. "No Desertpaw, I'm not pregnant with your siblings. But believe me, some will get here eventually. It's a matter of time." She leaned in and gave Firetooth a kiss on the cheek. "We're trying but haven't had any luck yet. But you can name all of them when they're born." She wrapped her paw around Firetooth's shoulder. "Can't is a strong word to use, isn't it? I'm sure we could have kits together if you put more effort into it." She shuffled her paws. "And maybe, you know, brought that herb..."
"No. No. Nope. Nuh uh. Not today, witch." As soon as the Huntress moved in to kiss him on the cheek, Firetooth quite literally leapt away from her grasp, turning-tail and darting up the nearest tree, climbing faster than he probably ever had in his life. His ginger pelt was puffed and sticking out on end as he took sanctuary on the nearest overhanging tree branch. The Medicine Cat's claws dug deep into the wood, bits and pieces of bark raining down on the dysfunctional family below as he stared unhappily down at them. "Ghostcrown-! Do something! I am NOT getting down from here until you set your freaking son straight!"

Desertpaw looked rather smug at his moms confession, rolling his eyes at Firetooth "I have never heard you talk such nonsense" he grinned as his mother planted a big kiss onto him "Of course you can have kits you silly goose" he stood up circling around the pair of them purring "You are a tom, shes a she-cat, there is nothing to stop you" he pursed his lips together "and you just kissed, so there will be kits in your tummy soon enough" he chuckled as the tom jumped into the tree "Don't worry Firetooth, if you don't know how how to get kits im sure Daddy will teach you. He made us after all!"
Were they getting back together? Ghostcrown wasn't surprised to hear the question; it was natural for an apprentice to wonder why her parents weren't together. Chemistry had drawn them together once and created an amazing litter of kits, but he had never seen her as a mate. He shook his head confidently and was ready to address the issue when his son interjected.
"No, no," he sputtered, looking quickly between the pair with a wait, are you? in his eyes. Then he shook his head, laughing at the ridiculous of it all. The two cats wanted to kill each other, there was no way they were interested in each other. He certainly wasn't Igziq's type. Ghostcrown wasn't sure if he was either, but he must have been close enough to convince her, and he was the opposite of his brother.
Then she shuffled closer to Firetooth, and he was fighting not to gag. The thought of those two having kits together was disgusting. He didn't feel possessive over the she-cat, it was just truly terrible to think of them together in that way. At least Firetooth felt the same way.
"Huntress, knock it off," Ghostcrown told her sternly. "Desertpaw, they are not together, I am definitely not teaching him anything, and no, Spiritpaw, I don't think he's mates with Chimerastar either. If he is, he should have told me as soon as it happened." He raised his voice, shooting the medicine cat a warning look. No way was he letting a secret that big stay hidden. "None of us are mates, okay? That's not why we're here."
"Right," Spiritpaw replied, her voice laced in sarcasm. She returned the Huntress's wink and took a step toward her father, nose to nose, her earlier nerves gone right around the time Firetooth made a fool of himself and booked it up the tree. Maybe this wasn't so serious after all, "There are all kinds of secrets you don't know, dad. You don't even know the name of my boyfriend. In fact, you probably don't even know that I have a boyfriend, do you?"
She was wearing that same mischievous expression that the Huntress had when he kissed Firetooth.
She couldn't hide her amusement as the poor tom ran up the nearby tree. He looked like he had scene a ghost or something like that. Or maybe a Desertpaw colluding with his mother. One of the two. She blew the tom a kiss and refocused on her family plus Ghostcrown. "Now that we don't have to worry about our friend, let's continue with what we gathered here to do." At once the almost playful Igziq disappeared behind a thick mask that Spiritpaw would recognize as her own, and she looked around her kittens. She hoped that Spiritpaw would get the message, and prayed Desertpaw would get some semblance of it.
"I didn't come here to tell you about your siblings, but you will have some. I have tracked you all down, specifically Desertpaw and Spiritpaw, since the fire. I met with Crow not long after the fire ended, and talked to him then. He and I made a very terrible discovery, " Her voice quivered as she spoke. She looked to Ghostcrown for the next part. He had to explain what he had done, and what it had cost him. She didn't hope that her children would hate him, rather she hoped that they would choose never to trust the tom again.
Ghostcrown suppressed a groan. He came here with serious news, he didn't have time for secrets and-
"Wait, you have a boyfriend?" Ghostcrown yelped. "You're just an apprentice! Who is he? Where is he from?" Falling into full-on dad mode, he stared at her in astonishment. Was his little girl really that old already? They had grown up so fast, but to imagine her dating someone...
"Right," he muttered as their mother spoke again. His mood soured instantly. "Spiritpaw, Desertpaw, please sit down. This isn't going to be easy to hear."

"You have a BOYFRIEND!!" Desertpaw gasped looking at his sister with shock "That so gross" he curled his lip upwards kind of ignoring what him mom and dad were talking about and focusing in on the one thing that "Are you going to have kits like Mom?" his eyes going between the two of them until he caught his moms eyes. It didn't really convince him of the seriousness of the situation, but it was enough to make him paused with his mouth open
"Yeah probably," Spiritpaw replied to Desertpaw, pretty much ignoring her father's reaction to the revelation, "We kiss all the time so I wouldn't be surprised if there were kits in my belly right now," The longer she spoke the bigger the smile grew on her face. It was so easy to mess with Desertpaw, it was almost sad, almost.
Done picking on her brother and father, she turned her icy blue eyes to her mother and got back on topic, "You didn't mention Raypaw or Luxpaw... how are they doing?"
As much as he wanted to focus on that revelation, it would have to wait.
"Luxpaw is safe with SunClan," Ghostcrown said, flashing a questioning glance at their mother. He had last seen the young tom heading out with his clanmates and assumed he had escaped unscathed, but not he wasn't sure. He wasn't sure of anything right now, but he had to push his self-doubts aside. There wasn't much time to decide how to share this news either, so he settled on the most direct route. No mincing words - Igziq would like it that way; pure honesty - his family deserved that much from him.
"Raypaw..." he hesitated, and his head bowed. "I thought she was safe outside of the camp, but I should have paid more attention. I'm so sorry. Your sister was still in the camp when it burned down, and she didn't make it."
"She... what do you mean she didn't make it?" Spiritpaw asked but she knew exactly what her father meant. Her paws went weak and the only way she could keep her balance was to lean against the Huntress. She was shaking.
Raypaw, dead?
No, she couldn't be, it hadn't been all that long since she'd last seen her... Playing back her memory of the fire, Spiritpaw realized that she hadn't seen Raypaw at all, but that didn't mean anything, SunClan was massive. Something wasn't adding up, but she couldn't find words to ask more questions, so she just sat there looking at the ground.

Desertpaw blinked, trying to figure out what to say "Well thats.... inconvenient" even those his words alone didn't portray a whole lot of emotion his tone told another story. There was a sadness to the way her spoke, even though her tried to hide it. He had never been a cat big on emotions, always trying to think in terms of facts... He supposed the fact was she was gone "Now who is gonna get my materials and shred ears of those that look funny at me..."
"I can't believe you would say something like that!" Spiritpaw hissed, her fur sticking up at all angles. Before she had a moment to think twice about it she was on her feet and had slapped Desertpaw hard against the cheek, so hard in fact that she hadn't intended to unsheathe her claws but the pressure of the blow forced them out, carving him up pretty good, "Our sister is dead and all you can do is talk about your stupid experiments?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!??!"
Ghostcrown tried to answer her, but he couldn't manage with the lump in his throat, so he merely shook his head. She knew what happened, even if she didn't want to accept it any more than he did. Losing a daughter was the hardest step in his life so far. He'd lost his siblings and both his parents, but that was so long ago now, and he hadn't been close to them. Not like she was with Raypaw.
As she struck Desertpaw he sprang to his paws and stepped between them. Nosing his daughter back, Ghostcrown murmured, "We all grieve differently, Spiritpaw. It's okay; this is just how he has to process what happened." He had heard the sadness in his son's voice and he knew Desertpaw was hurting just as badly as the rest of them.
