Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. Coralpaw groaned and flopped down on the ground. "Raggedpaw, why would you do this to your kits? Why would you try foisting them off on me when they could have a perfectly good father figure in someone else?"
Raggedpaw picked her way over to sit next to Coralpaw. "No one else could love me, Coralpaw." Her insecurity was starting to show, the tabby's gaze flicking down at her paws. "You and Servalpaw are my only friends. Everyone thinks I'm too weird and ugly."
Hazestar booed and was smacked by Nirvanawing, whose eyes glittered with tears. She was handed a napkin by a similarly teary-eyed Redstar.
StarClan. Now they were getting vulnerable with each other. Coralpaw started to sweat.
“Raggedpaw, you know people only tolerate me because I’m a package deal with you, right?” she snorted. “Even if they think you’re weird and ugly—which they don’t, by the way—they think I’m completely insufferable. Standing next to me, you’re like a—I don’t know, an orchid compared to a strand of grass! Remember that guy from the gathering whose name I already forgot? He was totally into you!”
The thought briefly came to Coralpaw that maybe more people would like her if she just tried remembering their names. Well, that would’ve been a helpful piece of character development three moons ago.
"I don't think you're insufferable," Raggedpaw offered meaningfully. She glowed from Coralpaw's words, which only further strengthened the idea that the two of them were meant to be together. No one else had said anything like that to her before, least of all Coralpaw. They were getting somewhere! In a moment of bravery, she let her tail drape across her friend's and purred.
Coralpaw stifled a sigh. Of course you don't, Raggedpaw.
"That's not the point--" she muttered, but the feeling of something warm and light across her shoulders made her freeze up. It reminded her of another time, made her feel the trace of a phantom tail across her body, just as warm but so much heavier. "Get off me," Coralpaw snarled, ducking away from Raggedpaw's touch and banishing the memories from her mind. "I didn't--that wasn't--stop yelling!" she suddenly snapped at the ghosts, so she wouldn't have to look Raggedpaw in the eye. It was too much.
Raggedpaw winced away and her big, pretty, oh so blue puppy dog eyes welled with tears. "I think we need couples therapy," she finally said, not wanting to accept the reality that their relationship needed professional help.
Therapy? Oh no no no no no. Coralpaw did not need therapy. Neither of them needed therapy. "No," she muttered, sighing. "Look, Raggedpaw--I have an even better solution. Why don't we just...pretend nothing happened?" she said. "We say the ghost monster was a bust, forget all about this conversation we had, and everything goes back to normal." And then we repress it and it comes out horribly a few years down the line in some unexpected way, she thought bitterly.
Raggedpaw clutched Coralpaw's face between her paws and stared deeply, very deeply, so deeply it was like she could see right through Coralpaw, the other she-cat's eyes like vortexes that were drawing her in, Raggedpaw's gaze beginning to slit, her lips puckering, and before she could be stopped she planted a loving, passionate kiss on her friend. She then backed away. "Okay..Nothing happened. Wanna go find more of those eggs?"
Coralpaw grimaced as she felt a trickle of Raggedpaw's drool drip down her chin. I swear to StarClan, I will kill her if I get sick from this. "Egg-hunting it is, Raggedpaw, egg-hunting it is."
this feels like a natural sitcom-ey end to this scenario LMAO do you wanna keep going with some other scenario with like a timeskip or something or what
